Everything you say to your "Echo" will now be sent to Amazon, and you can’t opt out
With Alexa+ (a generative AI version of Alexa) rolling out to Amazon Echo devices, starting on March 28 recordings of every command spoken to the Alexa living in Echo speakers and smart displays will automatically be sent to Amazon and processed in the cloud
Anyone with their Echo device set to “Don’t save recordings” will see their already-purchased devices’ Voice ID feature bricked
Let’s remind that in 2023 Amazon agreed to pay $25 million in civil penalties due to the company storing forever recordings of children’s interactions with Alexa, and they paid a settlement in relation to allegations that they allowed “thousands of employees and contractors to watch video recordings of customers' private spaces” taken from Ring cameras.
I miss the days of Dixie cups tied together with string.
I opted out by never buying an echo.

They've most probably done it for years, without stating it publicly. The qualitative shift right now is for them to perform a " f*ck privacy" coming out.
According to what I've read, the Echo devices are on the brink of bankruptcy, so that "Alexa+" formula could well be their swan song.
I have had an Echo for years and know they are in trouble financially, so yeah I agree. It is a farce, everything now makes us pay, yet we own nothing!
We're supposed to "be happy and own nothing".
But most of us here have chosen to "own $LEO and be API" 😉
