I am a little confused on why they would want to extend the unemployment benefits. I thought the majority of the ones getting the virus now are the unvaccinated with only a few breakthrough cases.

There are breakouts in California and other places that aren't making the local news. You have to read the national news or actually seek out the information. Many people here think we're right back to normal and have removed their masks completely. None of them are considering the Delta or Lamda variants.

This will all be over soon. Novavax is being further developed and rolled out with a 90% success rate against all known strains. It will be like the Spanish Flu 4 years and then disappeared.
Just not sure how the globalised world today VS back then will be different. Fortunately we don't have the same death rates as the 1900s.
I think the world handled it quite well.
