No, it used to be more simple back in the day but now the Wild Card was introduced and recently MLB introduced multiple Wild Card entries. Each league American and National Leagues will be in the Wild Card rounds of the playoffs. That fluctuates but hopefully the Mets can continue winning games and get in as one of the Wild Cards. Division Winners are the the better teams. The Mets are in the NL East and the Phillies are the number one team. With tonight's win the Mets are now first in the Wild Card for now and in second place behind the Phillies but by many games out of first place.
I understand, now we hope that this sequence of victories can be maintained to qualify.
