No one should be coerced into spending $$ against their wishes and for causes they don't support. If someone really feels that strongly about a program which lost funding via tax money-- our money-- that person can contribute private funds.

We need to remember that government doesn't have $$ of its own. Every unit of money a government has comes from the taxpayer. This is why it's an outrage to discover that tax money was used for purposes contrary to what the people expect.
Totally get that tax money deserves careful allocation. The challenge lies in creating a consensus about what's best for everyone, even if that means funding programs that some might not individually support
