This is something I hate seeing for a lot of reasons but here are the two main ones:
- My hunch about endless Tron money backed by Korean dumb money would be enough to keep Steem higher than Hive for a long time, a hunch that came true.
- The content you can find on Steem is a complete garbage because most of the quality content creators moved to Hive where now they earn less.
This will be a hard battle for Hive because Sun didn't actually kill Steem, Steem from now on has Tron integrated wallet meaning for every post you do you also get Tron. Interesting turn of events for sure.
I personally sold my Steem long time ago so this new development means nothing to me, but it is remarkable how things ended up different than forkers anticipated. Selling Steem was a choice I made because the overall state was catastrophic on Steem, but regardless of everything it is still worth more than Hive, a realization I can't seem to cope with these days.
But let's be real here, Hive had one of the worst hard forks in the whole Steem/Hive DPOS chain history, hoarding cats and not having a centralized developer company that pushes updates is making Hive lag behind, we basically only have VR Hive fest coming up, hardly something that will push Hive up in crypto ranks. Tron integration with Steem is a monumental news, also SBD is 5$ again, same people who pumped SBD in 2018 are being batshit crazy (again).
Conclusion:
All that talk about decentralization means nothing in this ugly race, endless Tron money ultimately will win, it is a sad truth but it is what it is. I want to see something good happening on Hive because if not this chain will have a lot of trouble reaching new audiences.
When are SMTs being launched? The code was being tested back in February.
If we want to claw back some momentum we need to start posting dates, and hitting them.
I agree 100%, but you know that sun chain will push that update faster than us. We are all getting restless seeing all the garbage projects push us down.
Yep. And the backflip on keeping the ninjamine. If we'd have burnt that damn honeypot I believe the price would be a heap better right now; but we kept it to pay for development. It'll be February again soon, a full year after SMT code was in testing, and there's still no apparent progress.
If witness rewards aren't sufficient to pay for development, then it should grind to a halt until the price recovers.
HBD is not needed, ninjamine is still here, autovotes, delegated stakes voting on garbage posts, slow development, no clear goals and paths to take, those are just issues I can think from top of my head right now. Oh yeah, needlessly high inflation, no real advantages of powering up, long power down time.. I'll stop there, I can't even imagine issues witnesses are having with increased costs of maintaining Hive.
I think the recent hardfork reduced costs, and made it more efficient; but we need something sexy on the horizon. Something to get excited about.
Being an authentic, quality project isn't enough. Gotta have some hype too.
You're trying to determine the outcome of a marathon based on the first quarter. It has always been clear that JS would try to boost his reputation of making shit to money, hence some kind of pump was always pre-programmed IMO.
What we're doing with Hive, is bigger than some short-term pump of trying to attract "dumb money". The problem with the Hive/Steem saga was that JS basically didn't give many people any choice than trying to follow their morale, as his actions were against everything that crypto stands for. Some people chose Steem, most people chose Hive. Not because of the money, but because of what they believed in. You can't put this in $$.
So yeah, the next few weeks might be rough, but that's the way.
This is what is happening today, the price of Steem will probably pump more and probably there will be a spike of usage, some hardcore Hivers will jump ships again in the process.
This is the way. The crypto way.
👆 True that - you don't need to run after money - instead we build something that will bring money and it will be permanent.

HIVE is missing leaders, that's why LeoFinance is so much better.

The "pains" of decentralization.
it isn't better, its the same thing. The brand is believed and portrayed to be better, there is noting better about it. Crypto is as childish and pathetic as it gets.
If it’s one thing that is known is it’s never going be endless or anything near what they say. For instance, many failing games on other platforms were offered “help,” funding, and players by Tron. There are so many stories out there of game developers coming forward that they not only did not get the help promised they were trying to steal their work. Tron even had a Twitter account set up claiming $100 million for game development. The last time I found it, it had been silent for quite some time.
They are also quite controlled by so few. Both in the distribution of spam content and to the number of people even getting anything. Not to mention if they wanted they could since the entire cryptocurrency community, in general, did very little the first time around just empty more accounts who they disagree with at any time.
While it’s hard to keep one’s head up during this hard year of 2020 Hive has not been around for a while. While yes in spirit many of us have been around for years now and it can feel like not enough is being done. There is only so much so few can do at once.
One of the biggest things people on Hive could be doing is just talking about even from a general point of view what they are working on from time to time. For instance, so many alone are making their own game, and while not all of them will be Hive blockchain games the fact of the matter is so many stays silent.
While people keep bring up the lack of leadership they forget the decentralized of our nature. There are a lot of leaders working on their things as they should be. Most again stay silent and even have stopped posting. Instead of having 1 strong leader, it will have hundreds if not thousands one day.
A blockchain is just a tool to empowers the users.
The problem with Hive is that A LOT of Hive is in the wrong hands. Just look at some people with a lot of Hive and check out how they got that Hive and it will be clear why are we not developing and getting better.
So many greedy jobless people trying to live of Hive. They probably can't even admit that Steem is better.
#meh #
I'm sure things will turn out for the better for Hive in the future but right now it is clear where the investor money is going.
Why do you think that? I wonder because I don't see it at all if we continue to act like this.
It was always like this, once the time passes and price goes up people forget about previous problems. Steem had billions of problems and the price reached 8$. Also, hope :)
I'm hearing about the price going up from 3 years ago. We're just going down so it's kinda hard to believe that anymore. But, who am I to say what the future brings.
I think HOPE is what holds almost everyone on Hive. That's a lil' problem but ok.
It is a hard path to take, being in crypto. Bull runs are scarce and bears are mostly in the lead. Hope and end goal of seeing a finalized product is why I'm sticking around.
Sad but true. I'll never touch Steem or Tron so their price movement does not matter to me at all. Still, it's sad to see the position Hive is in right now. If it wasn't for Leofinance, things would probably be even worse.

Splinterlands, Leofinance and dCity, these are actual great crypto projects and they are all running on Hive, this leads me to believe that the Hive price is massively undervalued. Steem has Koreans and Sun money, everything else is a black hole.
Indeed, and more are coming. Some of the other crypto games are looking really promising as well. Cryptobrewmaster and eXode have been taking way longer than what I had hoped for, but they are making progress and there's no better blockchain for gaming than Hive!

you realise that in march april of 2017 steem was trading at 15 to 10 cents when bitcoin was breaking all time highs dont you. When crypto really pumps, when everything pumps it will be fast. This is where weak hands are weeded out strong hands keep strong and smart money buys it up. Understand market cycles, and chill.
@khaleelkazi was actually doing some great stuff. I'm looking forward for the AI tool that could help a lot with SEO and nw traffic to the site. Steem went up 11%
We need to reach out to people outside of crypto if we want to keep up. One thing we have over Tron is better games. I think it'll be smart to bet on that :)

Right, Blockchain Gaming is where we are way ahead, but there are just not enough news outlets to pick all that up, we are mostly in our own microcosm.
This is actually one of by biggest concerns. I read on a posts from @vimukthi that few Hive front ends are in top 1000 sites in Venezuela. That's a huge achievement in my book. Ads for developing countries are cheaper. I think it's time Hive takes ads seriously. I think Brave Ads will be the best candidate. CMC or @coingecko wouldn't hut either.

One way of attracting new people definitely, nothing else seems to work. Maybe influencers could, you know those guys with millions of followers, but with these prices no influencer will be interested. This time decent influencers would be welcome, not Jerry Scamfield likes.
It will end some day - one cannot pretend and be trusted for ever.

Sun has a talent to keep his neck above water regardless of all the scam moves he makes. Who knows.
