If you are on Hive, on LeoFinance - you deal with crypto. Cryptocurrencies.
Which all in turn are so much tangled with cryptography. Encryption. Various ciphers.
Today, while studying various wallet and crypto tricks, I came across something very interesting and new (to me) in cipher. And it gave me an idea to make a puzzle.
Lets see if anyone can recognize this thing. Here is a string of 24 words:
town dance wife warn cover somewhere caress serious daddy foot whistle problem clearly grandma hey play surround experience tuck blanket compare scary parent poet
Behind this string is hidden a five word secret phrase. A short statement, which is actual to most of us today.
It is very recognizable.
First person, who will post this secret phrase in the comment section, will win a prize from me.
At first I was thinking of making the prize 10 or 20 Leo.
I have no idea if this task is hard or not. Somebody who has seen this page (which I found today) - may recognize the pattern easily, and can figure out the right answer without to much sweat. But maybe all is not so simple.
So I decided to make the winners prize variable. It will start from 4 Leo, after 12 hours it will double, and will continue to double after every next 24 hours. Doubling just like Bitcoin mining difficulty every 210K blocks. Just like this:
So if you find the answer (which, again, will be very easy to recognize, once you get to it) you have a choice - give you answer right away, and be the first to win whatever is actual that moment, or wait for several days, maybe even all seven, and let the prize grow bigger.
Your risk, your challenge.
Get less for sure, or wait and let your reward grow (but it may be taken away any moment by somebody else)

Spoiler 1: This has nothing to do with BIP39, 24 word mnemonics seeds.

We found this list of words that coincidentally included words from both of your 24 word strings. It couldn't be a coincidence. @krishare can fill you in on the rest.

Well, in two ways. It ruled out any classic cipher, where both encryption and decryption has unique outcomes. Second, a google hit on all 48 words was helpful 😉

A breakthrough was to find this list, which contains all 48 words:
@pusen and I have spent maaaaany hours on this one! As I said, the fact that two sets of words decrypts into the same sentence, rules out almost every cryptographic method I know. I also noticed the lack of similarities between the sets. Word length, word classes, number of vocals, you name it. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Frequency_lists/Contemporary_poetry @pusen found a python script using this list, and this gave me a hexnumber easily translated to text. One step left, ROT13 - and the solution was found :)
Very interesting. So much different from what I used, and what I was expecting.
I knew (expected) this "poetry" cipher method is not secure, is weak. But not that much.
In fact I was not aware of this complete 2000 word list. Would I knew this - at least I would not give the last hint, the second 24 word string.
The moral once again is confirmed now: DON't trust anybody!
But you have to, sometimes, right?
then...A true random number generators, and a very very high ENTROPY is your best friends in crypto

No problem, you can try multiple times. Once you see the right answer (after 7 days the latest), you will see that multiple tries are not much of a need or help in this puzzle.
Once you find the right solution - you will 100% know that you got it right.

Let me say a few words of appreciation, my honest thoughts.
Not only the reward is a big motivation for the participation but the puzzle itself is an interesting and exciting one. I think, people, who won't be able to solve it, would definitely visit the post multiple times to see what is the correct answer (I wish, we could know the number of views, @dalz) and would have been eagerly waiting for the answer post, even if there wasn't any reward attached to it.
IMHO, this is really something that's not very common on our chain/ecosystem.

I am wondering if the phrase has to be made up of a series of complete words from those 24 words you listed @onealfa?
Or can it be made up simply from the 139 characters that make up those words, in any order?
That would make it even more devilishly difficult to figure out using only your mind 😂

Your both assumptions are wrong.
There no one single word used in the secret phrase from the given starting strings.
There is no relations nor restrictions to the number of characters used in the answer phrase. It can use any alphabet character, as well as any common known punctuations.

It is a head scratcher for sure. I was thinking about it for ages this morning, then I realized I'd hit a brick wall and needed a break so I went and wrote a Leo post about the Ethereum EIP1559 update announcement to clear my mind.

Very cool @onealfa, I guess I missed the boat though since there is a correct answer now... saw this yesterday and started trying to decode it but ran out of time and energy last night. Glad someone got it... I got as far as "Hold On For Dear Life" but that was more of an intuitive guess than breaking the code.
