I view any form of delegation as a sign of investing into startup or business. I'd expect some equity or reward back. I invest in say hodlcommunity, Id expect hive back as reward.
If you delegate as a prize, you expect winner to have behavior like you when they become powerful they have to reciprocate to newbies like you do. Otherwise whole point becomes null.
We invest in the world we want to build and not for sake of randomness.

I am a beneficiary of your delegation, boss, and I am most loyal. It has helped me offset some of my school debts, though not all of them are done. I have delegated a bit of my HP to someone, though. I felt okay because I wanted not only me to grow but we all to grow.
Perhaps I understood the question differently from most, I had understood delegating without receiving anything tangible in return just to help as you usually do.
In the case of receiving tokens in return, it's always beneficial because there are projects that pay very generously, my HPs for example I currently delegate to leo.voter, nexo.voter and zingtoken .
But in the case of delegating without receiving something tangible immediately I believe I'm on the way but I'm still not big enough to benefit the network more than hinder my growth. In this case I try to compensate by helping the network with monthly onboarding events and by helping people in my community to have more access to and better understand blockchain technology and get to know Hive. But I hope that next year I'll have enough to start running prize delegations to promote and encourage new users.
I thought delegation to smb gives back some curation rewards to the tokens owner. I have delegated HP to leo voter in the past and I feel happy with the daily drops.
I am presently enjoying 20k leo delegation from the inleo team. I can say it's very beneficial to me, and I think it's the same for them.

Well to be honest... Number 3 is the real answer, lol. But, other than my projects that I delegate to keep running, I delegate to @leo.voter, and that gives me the number 2 feeling when those LEOs drop in my wallet on the daily...
