"Trading time for dollars ... You are a tiny part of a machine meant to generate wealth for someone else."
The "lot" to which most of us must submit, as least while we are young and have had no time to accumulate any savings or investments of any kind.
Breaking free of this takes a great deal of discipline. Very few are willing to submit to the taming of their "instant gratification" more or less, so they are stuck ... If we can do it, though, there is something "magical" about having your money make money. While you are doing that in which you truly find value (and the motivation you speak of ...) or even while you are sleeping! 👍
"I feel fortunate that I am an early adopter."
Yes, agreed and right there with you. I retired earlier than I might have simply to avoid the stress which I felt was literally shortening my life span. I am now making more than I was at the peak of my career ...
It can be done! I hope all is well with you and yours, my friend. Especially your little guy. Remember he is not only your future, but (properly considered, IMHO) our future!
P.S. Glad to see, after your long lay off, that you posted in LeoFi. I can provide a significantly higher upvote "in here" ... 😉

Hey @roleerob, always good to hear from you! My time preference has lowered quite a bit in recent years. I rather enjoy 'spending' my money on things that appreciate and generate cash flow. Spending more time with my son was definitely a primary goal of this step!
