As has been explained to you many times, the benefit of that 50% is being distributed to HBD stabilizer and then to DHF, where it then goes to developers, marketers, those operating infrastructure, etc.
You may thing it would be better to go to creators, while others think it is better going to HBD stabilizer and DHF for developers, marketers, etc. Stakeholders get to vote on this.
They certainly do. And by bringing this activity into the light (less than 5 people I've talked to had any idea about this activity) it helps ALL stakeholders make more informed decisions. Just like seeing how pharesim/curangel/azircon are systematically nuking users for purely political reasons, or how acidyo/OCDB likes to publish libel about people on the chain.
And maybe in the future your social circle can start paying a little more attention to the happenings on chain. In my comment that you have conveniently muted, I explained, whether people were for it or against it, this was no secret. That says a lot about how far disconnected from this place you folks are if less than five knew. That needs to improve. If people aren't truly fully informing themselves around here, like so many others, how are they even in a position to comment...

No, it points to the issue that others have brought up here as well. Hive is obscure, too technical for most, not well documented, and designed to make information harder and harder to find the older it is.
It was all over the trending page and even created a bit of a stir. I found out about simply browsing PeakD. Just a normal day, there it was. Center stage, couldn't miss it, and it stuck around for awhile as well. Guess how I found out about the upcoming air drops? Same way. Super simple. Not technical at all. If someone knows how to click a post and knows how to read, asks questions if they need to and has the patience to wait a few minutes for an answer, they can do it, too. How did I find your post? Same way. Super easy. Here I am, taking it upon myself to keep up with current events. Very simple. And if it happened a long time ago, I'm then given an opportunity to use my memory — which comes standard with most humans — and think back.

It's not actually that hard to Hive as we know but it's a nice narrative to paint when you are smearing.
Considering most everyone in here agrees that trending is full of mostly over-rewarded shitposts... I don't think most ever go there. Especially not when most of Hive's users live on L2s like splintertalk, oneup, [the now defunct] naturalmedicine and proofofbrain - that often aren't tagged in those posts.
Or... maybe someone wasn't online for the one or two weeks where this was being discussed?
I know I, personally, have never looked to trending for content, I might skim it to see if there are important updates there, but it's mostly FB-friendly content.

People come to this platform and post. I don't necessarily enjoy everything, either. I'd say that's normal. But these content creators don't have control over whether or not they have a successful day. I've seen some great stuff up there. I look every day and browse as part of my routine. If someone gets up there honestly for doing a good job, they should not be made out to feel bad or embarrassed for it. Genuine success stories here should be celebrated. That does occur, quite often. These bad attitudes do nothing to boost morale. It's sickening already. Getting the evil eye for doing good? Think about that at least.
How can you complain about trending content, saying it's overrewarded shit, then complain about downvotes being used on overewarded content? Make up your mind. I don't want to see good stuff get downvoted after those folks tried because people like you are complaining.

That's also because most whales don't care at all about what they upvote (not to mention what they produce themselves), instead of that they do a fully automated 'upvoting service' of two-image-shit-posts (and at the same time flag "over rewarded" posts from other users). You had a discussion here with my 'best friend' @themarkymark who complained he wouldn't find enough posts worth to upvote ... well, who just doesn't seek, doesn't find, lol.
Most of us don't. You know that, I know that. But as you say, most of us skim it for anything that might be pertinent to current thinking or for anything vaguely not shitposty. ie, stuff about the platform or mechanics that are being discussed to control stuff about the platform, like the pegging of HBD.
So no. We don't go there for content as a rule but it's worth a skim to keep up to date with what's happening. And you know that and you admit you do it. Just not enough in this case. It was more than a week or two, I would say it was a raging hot topic for a while.
I'm not judging. We all take time out. But it wasn't some minor thing hidden away.
So back to my point. Whilst trending is renowned for not being where people look for content. Most still skim it to see what happening. Even those who use L2s as is apparent by their sudden appearance on trending topics.
