This might not be a big deal. Then again, it might be a Wright Brothers moment.
Either way, there was a helicopter flight on Mars, even it for a short period of time.
It is actually harder than we think.

I watched how the helicopter thingy was developed before it got to mars, it's very cool but I don't think we will see lots of drones flying around on Mars any time soon given how difficult flying is on that planet

Couple that with the fact as to why we need stuff flying around Mars.
If we do eventually live this, which I highly question, it is not going to be for a while now. There is plenty of time to figure how to fly stuff up there.
The breakthrough from a scientific and knowledge standpoint is great but the practicality of it, I don't see it.

Drones could help survey the planet but that would mean more weight, and that helicopter thingy is super duper light

Yea because every planet is different. I think its a great first step and maybe we can start building vehicles for transportation on other planets using this knowledge.

I just wish they would work on getting my car to go 100 miles on a gallon of gasoline.
You would think that would be a greater priority since the impact could be immediately felt.
Imagine every new car in 2023 that had a MPG of 100 or more. That would change things.

Lol. That would be amazing but I think I would prefer an electric car that fills up in 10 minutes and has a battery life of 1,000 miles. I think that would be far better than a gas car. Say goodbye to gas stations.

That is true although I think the other idea would be a closer reality if it was sought. The 1,000 mile battery with 10 minute recharge times do not seem like they could happen anytime soon. A car that gets 100 MPG, if the car companies were pushed, I bet they could do it.

They probably could but the trend I see is that they are focusing on the EV trade and they don't see a future for gas cars.

That would be quite an accomplishment! The efficiency on combustion engines is really bad so it would take a lot of optimization to achieve that.
It would be amazing though

That was a very interesting article.
The physics of it is not really new to me but when I first saw the news about the flight I never stopped to think about all these implications. It must have been very hard to get a stable amount of lift on those conditions. Definitely an engineering milestone!
