Here is the daily technology #threadcast for 7/13/24. We aim to educate people about this crucial area along with providing information of what is taking place.

Drop all question, comments, and articles relating to #technology and the future. The goal is make it a technology center.

Sort:

LOL very true. Great addition.

It is. But some folks complain about the iPhone too. So many complications

People will complain about anything it seems. Sad but true.

Even if everything was perfect, they would still find something.

Apparently, Square Enix is going to release a book about Game AI. It's completely different from Generative AI, but I can't help but see the timing as a very calculated move to profit off the current trends!

Probably but why not. If the market is ripe for it, take advantage. It might be a lot of smoke and mirrors but, hell, that is much of what is on the market.

Yeah, that's a brilliant move in my opinion!

Yep. I never have a problem with people profiting off their ideas. Many seem opposed to it. If people are willing to pay and arent scammed then so be it.

I don't have a problem with it, but I still find it worth mentioning when they do it.

NASA’s CHAPEA Project

It is called “Mars Dune Alpha” and is a 1,700-square-foot building made with 3D printing at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. It has bedrooms, bathrooms, a work area, a robot station, a gym, and a vertical farm, among other things. It is next to a 1,200-square-foot area that is used to simulate events that would happen outside of vehicles on Mars. The setup includes red, rocky cliffs and simulated Martian dirt to make the experience more real.

It is always interesting to see different technologies converging.

3D printing is really going to expand our potential with space.

I can say 3D is increasingly becoming demanding these days.

Well it allows for the creation of things in a manner that is different from how we do it on Earth. We are starting to incorporate it here but when it comes to space, put a printer in operation and less humans needed.

Robot-packed meals are coming to the frozen-food aisle
Found everywhere from airplanes to grocery stores, prepared meals are usually packed by hand. AI-powered robotics is changing that.
Chef Robotics, a San Francisco–based startup, has launched a system of AI-powered robotic arms that can be quickly programmed with a recipe to dole out accurate portions of everything from tikka masala to pesto tortellini. After experiments with leading brands, including Amy’s Kitchen, the company says its robots have proved their worth and are being rolled out at scale to more production facilities. They are also being offered to new customers in the US and Canada.

Good Morning Mr. TaskMaster.

Have a great day.

Good day my friend. How are you doing? Just looking to make it another huge day on threads.

Great to see some people getting busy early.

Good Day.

Sure...we will make it yet another producive day.

We will take it to new highs and certainly better than yesterday

I am looking at getting things to surpass yesterday. This weekend will have a lot of threading from me.

Then let me flood the photography section

Go ahead. That can easily handle 1,000 comments per day when you think about it.

How many people can add a few pics here and there. 250 people would easily cross that level.

Sure, I have started doing that.

What challenges exist in implementing Elon Musk's idea of Universal Basic Income?

A ton. To start, there is the political angle which is going to be hard to get it through. Governments cant afford the spending they have.

Plus, what does income solve. I think we have to look at universal basic assets. That could be done with tokenization. It provides ownership to the economy for the citizens.

That said governments are going to go with UBI. I would say the US will be one of the last. Governments are going to have to stay relevant.

wow you're right on that brother. I knew it would be challenging but now I'm seeing it would be darn right complicated. I'm thinking Universal Basic Assets would be a better deal. The funny thing is that everything points that Web 3.0 and Decentralization with crypto and Blockchain could be a great solution for many dilemma

I believe Web 3.0 is the answer. It provides the asset base and ownership required for people to have an income stream. When income capital goes away, it has to be replaced. I do not think that going through the gov't is the answer.

Staking income could be the solution.

Well said Taskmaster wow you answered my question perfectly.. it's a shame I have to sleep it's almost midnight but definitely would be joining threadcast more often now wow

Rest up. There will always be more stuff to learn in the #technology threadcast.

Thanks brother it's a beautiful Sunday and glad I was now able to post. I guess InLeo is working now.

Artificial intelligence that creates music: 4 sites to do it for free

The ability of artificial intelligence to compose original music is mainly based on pattern analysis and learning techniques and algorithmic generation. In a first step, the platforms analyze a large volume of musical data, identifying musical, melodic, rhythmic, harmonic and instrumental patterns. These variables are then learned and become the basis for creating new compositions.

In algorithmic generation, AI uses these patterns to generate new songs independently, whether creating melodies and harmonies, combining musical elements or defining instrumentation. The learned data is also used in the composition of letters, as the models can predict the next word based on previous sequences, in different languages.

China plans to divert asteroid from Earth to show defensive potential

China appears to have chosen the target for its first planetary defense mission, which was discussed by the Planetary Society in an article in the Journal of Deep Space Exploration. The country plans to launch it later this decade to crash into an asteroid, while scientists observe the object and the effects of the collision.

According to an article by the Planetary Society, a non-profit organization, the Chinese space agency CNSA may consider asteroid 2015 XF261 for its mission. It is a space rock close to Earth measuring 30 m in diameter. The object passed by Earth on Tuesday (9) and was 50 million kilometers from our planet.

That is a talent we want to have if necessary.

The first time I saw it in a newspaper, it talked about the possibility of an asteroid hitting Earth, I was 6 years old, I was very scared. LOL

Almost 30 years ago, people already imagined the possibility of using lasers.

Generative AI Helps Creativity But Hurts Originality, Study Says

AI was found to enhance the creative process and improve the quality of writing, but the resulting stories were more similar to each other.

Writers are finding AI useful in coming up with story ideas, sparking creativity, and making content more engaging and professional. However, overuse of the technology may increase the risks of constraining the diversity of collective creative output, according to a new study. In other words, AI could make writing less diverse.

“Generative AI–enabled stories are more similar to each other than stories by humans alone,” the study said. “These results point to an increase in individual creativity at the risk of losing collective novelty.

Musk says EU wanted “secret deal” to “censor free speech” after fine threat

Elon Musk accused the European Commission of acting in bad faith after the bloc threatened his social network, X, with a fine. The sanction could run into millions of dollars for breaching the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA). He said the EU wanted a “secret deal” to “censor free speech”, which X declined.

The Commission is the primary executive arm of the 27-member EU. On Friday, it released preliminary findings of its investigation into X’s (Twitter) compliance with the DSA. It said the platform is in breach of the law in three areas: misleading verification systems, lack of advertising transparency, and failure to provide data to researchers.

Designing the Future: How Mixed Reality Is Transforming Project Planning and Design

From product design to interior design and construction, design is a fundamental part of everything we touch and everywhere we go. However, the design process is incredibly involved and requires a high level of attention to detail — even one mistake could cause the entire design to come crashing down — which is why many designers are constantly looking for innovations that will make their jobs better, more efficient, and safer.

#technology #vr #ar #mixedreality

What is Mixed Reality (MR)?

One powerful new technology seems destined to shake up the design landscape for the better: mixed reality (MR). Although people might be familiar with the concepts of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), MR takes this technology’s capabilities to a different level and will change the design process for the better.

MR is made possible through a combination of the most powerful features of VR and AR technology. Where VR provides a fully immersive digital environment, AR overlays digital content onto the real world. MR allows users to interact and engage with 3D virtual objects using natural movements and gestures due to the technology’s ability to map out the user’s actual environment. The result is that users can see and manipulate digital elements as if they were truly present in the same physical space.

Self-Driving Cars and Personal Injury: Are Smart Features Making Cars Safer or More Dangerous?

In recent decades, automakers around the world have spent countless billions on autonomous vehicle technology. They're doing so because everyone agrees that self-driving cars will be the next killer app in the industry. Unfortunately, the road to getting there hasn't been as smooth as those automakers have hoped.

On the contrary, the short history of autonomous vehicle technology is one filled with countless technological failures and accidents. In San Francisco, CA, a hotbed for autonomous vehicle testing, there have already been dozens of accidents—including at least one that seriously injured a pedestrian.

Whistleblowers accuse OpenAI of ‘illegally restrictive’ NDAs

Whistleblowers have accused OpenAI of placing illegal restrictions on how employees can communicate with government regulators, according to a letter obtained by The Washington Post.

Lawyers representing anonymous whistleblowers sent the letter to Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler. The letter refers to a separate, formal complaint asking the SEC to investigate OpenAI’s severance, non-disparagement, and non-disclosure agreements.

The letter also says the SEC has been provided with evidence that “OpenAI’s prior NDAs violated the law by requiring its employees to sign illegally restrictive contracts to obtain employment, severance payments, and other financial consideration.”

Find out everything needed for astronauts to ‘walk’ in space

The adverse conditions of space, such as the cold and the lack of gravity and oxygen, make astronauts' work dangerous and difficult, especially when they have to work outside the space station or their spacecraft.

Astronauts can only survive in space if they wear a special suit with jet thrusters that provides them with air to breathe and remove exhaled CO². And they undergo training on Earth in special pools to replicate the lack of gravity.

NASA has been working on improving the clothing worn by astronauts. “We haven't had a new suit since the suits we designed for the space shuttle, and those suits are currently in use on the space station.

How AI Could Benefit the Blind

There are times when the human race is on the cusp of pioneering, innovative, and radical change such as the industrial revolution, harnessing electricity, discovering flight, inventing computing, and now developing artificial intelligence (AI).

Google’s Ray Kurzweil says in his new book, 'The Singularity is Nearer’, that we are “about to enter the ‘fifth epoch’ of intelligence, where man merges with machines - triggered by the arrival of human-level AI and brain chips like Elon Musk's Neuralink.”

Kurzweil predicts that in a decade, human intelligence will multiply millions of times over by human beings connecting directly to machines.

With this in mind, the people most likely to be assisted and benefited by AI could be those who are blind and visually impaired.
