In 1795, he became friends with Lewis while serving together in the U.S. Army. Later, Clark married Julia Hancock in 1808 and took on the responsibilities of caring for Sacagawea's children after her passing in 1812. His post-expedition career included serving as governor of the Missouri Territory and working diligently in Indigenous affairs, showcasing his commitment to fair treatment and relations with Native peoples.
