ATXpi5 is doing both light node on HE and VCS node! Two side chains of #hive!
All within 5 watts of consumption... 😱🤯 yep... this is the power of having people developing great affordable stuff that helps decentralize Hive people and add value to the chain.
You are welcome on Leo my dear sister from another mother, its a pleasure to see you here. I'm thinking of buying one of your products before living your shop.. HAhah 🤣🤣🤣
Someone said they were concerned to fund something that's non-open source. Some people agreed but others said a product doesnt necessarily need to be open source to add value to Hive.
There was also concerns because some of the key members of InLeo, you included, dont have a lot of Hive Power. But some people said having Hive Power is not the only way of having skin in the game and you guys show you have it in other ways.
I think it was a good healthy discussion with valid points and not just attacks
Elevator pitch: INLEO developed technology to onboard 99% of Crypto communities to HIVE. We have 10 communities ready for co-marketing and onboarding. We are asking DHF to cover 25% of the budget.
The timeline of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim works in a very interesting way. The different eras are each 40 years apart from each other, yet they're not connected. There's some "loop" going on, but it doesn't seem to be a time loop. I'm excited to know what the real answers to this mystery!
in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim... I love how the characters' relationships are very different between "loops", for example, Shu Ameguchi's past self, (Tetsuya Ida,) was in love with Kisaragi Tomi while his current self is in love with Yuki Takamiya!
Having ways to spend #crypto is extremely important. Cryptocurrency were not created for speculation. The entire point is to become an alternative to fiat. Buying and selling for $DASH is a great step towards that.
I think one disturbing thing I experienced about accidentally waking up at 4:30 am today so me realizing some people wake up this early to exercise or make it to work on time
I'm up before 5am to make it to my workout session at 5am. Been doing for a long time. At least most of the week. During the weekends we get to sleep a bit and go to later sessions.
One day rest day from working out and then one day in the weekend we do a walking activity so we go to Orangetheory Fitness usually everyday except Wednesdays and then depending if it's running season we will only go to an Orangetheory Fitness studio on Saturdays. When we travel we try our best to be in walking or driving distance to an Orangetheory.
when exactly were you sleeping because I doubt I'll be able to commit to that time. Even 5:30 is still early and I only do that on Sundays to make it to morning meetings
I don’t know why I always resisted it, I wanted my music to be a certain way, but now I’m having fun just exploring sounds and what I can make so it’s fun.
Garage band is probably the most popular app for this kind of thing. MIDI is the file type where sound can be recognized between instrument and different devices

Diocletian became emperor by a stroke of luck. He was losing a battle with the emperor Carinus, when several of Carinus’ officers, offended with his seducing of their wives, took revenge and killed him. Immediately they recognized Diocletian as their true emperor.
He was a strong leader who deserves first rank in the history of the empire, but also suffers from a bad reputation fostered by Christian writers who curse him for his persecution of their people.
AppLovin said it expects first-quarter revenue of between $1.36 billion and 1.39 billion, exceeding the $1.32 billion average analyst estimate, according to LSEG. More than $1 billion of that will come from its advertising segment, as the company said it is "still in the early stages" of bolstering its AI models.
"The roadmap ahead is filled with opportunities for iteration," the company said in its shareholder letter. "As we execute, we believe we can continue to drive value creation for our shareholders."
On the earnings call, Huffman said that Google's algorithm changes take place about twice a year, adding "not the first, not the last."
"It primarily affects logged-out users in the U.S.," he said. "This one was particularly interesting because there really was a swing down, but then a recovery shortly thereafter happened right at the end of the quarter."
Despite missing on user number, the company otherwise reported a strong quarter and provided optimistic guidance.
Reddit went public in march at $34 a share and has since seen its stock jump more than sixfold to $216.47 as of Wednesday's close. The shares were up 32% this year prior to the after-hours selloff.
Reddit's fourth-quarter earnings followed several other online advertising tech companies that recently reported their latest quarterly earnings.
Last week, Amazon reported fourth-quarter earnings, saying its online advertising business recorded $17.29 billion, up 18% from a year ago. In its fourth-quarter earnings, Pinterest said its sales in the period rose 18% year over year to $1.15 billion.
Soon after taking power, Diocletian named a colleague, Maximian, Caesar and assigned him control of the western provinces. This act gave him free reign to deal with problems along the Danube – five years worth. The dual-emperor model worked well but did nothing to solve the problem of succession. Diocletian fixed that problem in 293 A.D.by having Maximian and himself name their replacements – Julius Constantius and Galerius Maximianus.
All four of them had been participating in the wars starting in 286 A.D: a Berber revolt in Africa, a Persian seizure of Armenia, a pretender in Egypt declaring himself emperor, and a breakaway commander in Britain. These challenges took four years to clean up. The Goths and Germans were also troublesome during this time, but they were held back by a superior Roman effort and dedicated commanders. The Germans spent much of the time fighting among themselves.
Rome, the city, was now isolated and unimportant. Diocletian visited there only once because it was just too far from the action. The tetrarchs chose Trier, Milan, Thessalonica, and Nicomedia for their capitals.
By 304, Diocletian was old and sick. He decided to resign and convinced his partner to do likewise. The dual resignation date was May 1, 305. The two new emperors ascended to the throne and named their replacements as before, but the wrong people were passed over in the process. Severus and Maximinus were selected, but the sons of Constantius and Maximian – Constantine and Maxentius – were passed over. When Constantius died prematurely in 306, his army proclaimed Constantine as new emperor in the west. Before Galerius could elevate Severus in opposition, Maxentius proclaimed himself emperor in Rome. Ultimately, Constantine and Maxentius faced off in a battle at Milvian Bridge on October 28th, 312 with Constantine the winner. Maxentius drowned trying to cross the Tiber.
Many technology companies have been trying to predict the effects from President Donald Trump's newly established Department of Government Efficiency. But three-quarters of Cisco's U.S. federal business comes from the Defense Department, while most of the headcount cutting thus far has occurred in other agencies, Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins said on a conference call with analysts.
"Everything seems to be progressing as we expected," he said.
Apple TV+ is among Apple's most popular services, and it's best known for shows like "Ted Lasso" and "Severance." It also broadcasts Major League Soccer and Major League Baseball games.
The company has never released viewership numbers for Apple TV+, but Nielsen estimates say it accounts for a small fraction of total American TV watching. It costs $10 per month in the U.S. and is included in several bundles alongside iCloud storage, Apple Music and other subscriptions.

“The person, as well as the mind, of Constantine, had been enriched by nature with her choices endowments. His stature was lofty, his countenance majestic, his deportment graceful; his strength and activity were displayed in every manly exercise, and from his earliest youth, to a very advanced season of life, he preserved the vigor of his constitution by a strict adherence to the domestic virtues of chastity and temperance. He delighted in the social intercourse of familiar conversation; and though he might sometimes indulge his disposition to raillery with less reserve than was required by the severe dignity of his station, the courtesy and liberality of his manners gained the hearts of all who approached him. The sincerity of his friendship has been suspected; yet he showed, on some occasions, that he was not incapable of a warm and lasting attachment.
Avride will operate the bots throughout one square mile of downtown Jersey City, from Hamilton Park to Historic Downtown to the Waterfront, with plans to expand in the future. Avride declined to state how many bots it would put on the streets of Jersey City at launch.
A handful of restaurants will participate, including Michelin rated Jiangnan, Rumi Turkish Grill, and Gulp. Customers ordering off the Uber Eats app will be able to choose between having a traditional courier or an Avride robot deliver their meal.
Despite this optimism, he warned that AV commercialization will take a while due to a number of factors, including high costs to outfit vehicles with sensor suits, a fragmented regulatory environment, seasonal demand fluctuations, and the need to achieve “superhuman” levels of safety.
After a winning a battle against Licinius in 317 A.D. Constantine won concessions including most of the Balkans and the guarantee that his sons would be in line for the throne. Then, in a final showdown 324 A.D, Constantine defeated his rival at Hadrianopolis.
The emperor now turned his attention to the construction of a new capital at Byzantium (Constantinople) which took six years. Then, in the 330s A.D, he was engaged with the Germans along the Danube, defeating the Goths in 332 A.D. and the Sarmatians in 334. These victories brought back to Rome much of the Dacian territory originally won by Trajan.
Constantine died in 337 A.D. after being baptized as a Christian. His reign had marked two enormous changes in the empire: the embracing of Christianity and the move of the capital to Constantinople.
In a filing earlier on Wednesday, attorneys for OpenAI called Musk’s move to take control of the company “an improper bid to undermine a competitor,” and a contradiction of his position in court that a transfer of the startup’s assets through restructuring would breach its mission as a charitable trust.

Significant barbarian attacks on the Empire began in the mid-third century A.D. and continued for more than a century before the empire lost the ability to protect itself. In this article we will describe those attacks, their genesis, and the impact they had on Rome.
Before proceeding, however, we need to review some background material on the Goths, once again relying on our friend Gibbon.
“In the age of the Antonines, the Goths were still seated in Prussia. About the reign of Alexander Severus, the Roman province of Dacia had already experienced their proximity by frequent and destructive inroads. In this interval, therefore, of about seventy years, we must place the second migration of the Goths from the Baltic to the Euxine (Black Sea); but the cause that produced it lies concealed among the various motives which actuate the conduct of unsettled barbarians. Either a pestilence or a famine, a victory or a defeat, an oracle of the gods or the eloquence of a daring leader, were sufficient to impel the Gothic arms on the milder climates of the south.”
“Docker both feels like a cool new startup and the bedrock of the container native universe, prevalent now and moving towards ubiquitous, as cloud-native takes over the world,” Johnson said in a statement announcing his appointment.
Johnson is Docker’s sixth CEO, following co-founder Solomon Hykes who led the company until 2013; Ben Golub, who departed in 2017 to make way for Steve Singh; and Rob Bearden, who was the company’s CEO for just six months before Docker chief product officer, Scott Johnston, was promoted to lead the company in 2019.

John McCain, born on August 29, 1936, in Coco Solo Naval Air Station in the Panama Canal Zone, was the son and grandson of four-star Navy admirals, setting him on a path marked by military service and public duty. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1958 and served valiantly during the Vietnam War, where he was shot down and captured. McCain endured five and a half years as a prisoner of war, exhibiting extraordinary resilience under brutal conditions, which earned him numerous medals, including the Silver Star and Bronze Star.
ohn McCain, following in the distinguished lineage of his naval family, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1958 and swiftly saw action in the Vietnam War. He became a naval aviator, flying bombing missions against North Vietnam. On October 26, 1967, during a bombing run over Hanoi, McCain's aircraft was shot down, leading to his capture by North Vietnamese forces. He sustained critical injuries, breaking both arms and a leg in the crash, and was subsequently imprisoned in the infamous Hoa Lo prison, known as the "Hanoi Hilton." His lineage as the son of a high-ranking officer meant McCain was offered an early release, which he declined, adhering to the military code of conduct.
John McCain's political journey took a pivotal turn when he announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination in 1999. He emerged as a formidable contender against then-Texas Governor George W. Bush, gaining traction with voters who appreciated his candid and straightforward communication style. McCain's appeal transcended party lines, garnering support from independent voters and disenchanted Democrats, particularly noticeable when he won the New Hampshire primary with significant margins. His campaign emphasized reform, national security, and a strong defense policy, allowing him to connect with the electorate through a blend of traditional conservative ideals and his unique "maverick" persona.
John McCain's personal life was marked by two significant marriages and a close-knit family. He first married Carol Shepp, a model from Philadelphia, on July 3, 1965. Carol had two children from a previous relationship, whom McCain adopted. The couple had a daughter named Sidney in 1966. However, after 15 years of marriage, McCain and Carol divorced in April 1980. This initial marriage laid the foundation for McCain's subsequent commitment to family and the values he espoused throughout his life.

Throughout his time as a U.S. senator from Arizona, McCain's annual salary was approximately $174,000, a sum standard for members of Congress. Additionally, he earned income from book royalties, particularly from his memoir “Faith of My Fathers” published in 1999, and later “The Restless Wave.” The success of these publications contributed significantly to his overall wealth, showcasing his ability to leverage his life experiences and public persona.
By 268 A.D. a Gothic War was underway. The Goths had warmed up by attacking along the Danube in the 262-263 timeframe and then ravaging Asia Minor in 267. Joined by the Heruli tribe, they raced down the Balkans in 268 and sacked Athens. Gallienus blocked and defeated them at Naissus, but was recalled to Milan to put down an internal revolt. While there, he was assassinated.
The next emperor, Claudius II “Gothicus” made his living fighting the Germans. He defeated the Alemanni, after they crossed the Alps in 268 A.D, and then campaigned against them again, with success, the next year. The Goths achieved a partial victory against him in 270, but were laid low by the plague. The emperor also contracted the disease and died in August of 270.
Despite being hailed a hero for his actions, Jewell's life quickly descended into a nightmare as he became the principal suspect in the bombing. The FBI's investigation, coupled with sensationalist media coverage, portrayed him in an unflattering light, leading to intense public scrutiny. Jewell’s defense was vigorously mounted by his legal team, and they eventually succeeded in clearing his name, but not without lasting emotional and psychological effects. Though he faced significant challenges post-incident, including health issues, Jewell continued to work in law enforcement until his untimely death from complications related to diabetes in August 2007. His legacy remains a reminder of the fragility of public perception and the impact of media representation.
In July 1996, as the Summer Olympics brought global attention to Atlanta, Richard Jewell was working as a security guard at Centennial Olympic Park when he discovered a suspicious backpack containing a pipe bomb. His instinct to alert authorities and evacuate the area was credited with saving countless lives, but this act of heroism quickly turned into a nightmare. Shortly after being hailed as a hero, the FBI identified him as a suspect, leading to intense media scrutiny and public vilification. Jewell's life transformed drastically from that of a celebrated savior to a beleaguered scapegoat, highlighting the precarious nature of fame and public perception in modern society.
As the public fascination grew, FBI agents descended upon Jewell's life with claims of conducting a training exercise, further embroiling him in an investigation that saw him positioned as the primary suspect in a crime he did not commit. The relentless media circus surrounding him catalyzed a fierce backlash against the institutions that once celebrated him. His friendship with attorney Watson Bryant became vital as they fought to reclaim Jewell's reputation, releasing a polygraph test that validated his innocence. Over time, public sentiment began to shift, revealing the deep-seated injustices faced by Jewell amidst the frenzy of media speculation and an unyielding investigative apparatus.
Determined to clear his name, Jewell engaged in a vigorous public defense led by his longtime friend, lawyer Watson Bryant. They released polygraph test results indicating his innocence and mounted an aggressive campaign to confront the media's portrayal of him. As Jewell's attorneys fought back against the media's narrative, public sentiment began to shift in his favor. His resilience paid off when, after nearly three months of being labeled a suspect, the FBI officially cleared him of any wrongdoing. This recognition came too late to restore his reputation fully, but it laid the groundwork for his subsequent legal actions against the media that had tarnished his name.
How did Richard Jewell's life change after the bombing?
Immediately after the bombing, Jewell became a media sensation celebrated for his heroism. However, within days, he was wrongly targeted by the FBI and sensationalized by the media as a suspect, which led to immense public scrutiny and significant personal turmoil.
Richard Jewell passed away on August 29, 2007, due to complications from diabetes. He had spent years battling the aftereffects of the 1996 bombing incident's media frenzy and his wrongful characterization as a suspect, leaving a legacy that was recognized posthumously through various tributes.

Her ability to connect with audiences across generations, combined with her remarkable vocal range, has solidified her status as a pop music icon. Despite facing personal challenges, including the loss of her husband René Angélil in 2016 and her own health struggles, Dion remains an influential figure in the music industry. Currently, she is focused on her health while maintaining hope for a return to the stage, emphasizing her resilience and determination.
Céline Marie Claudette Dion was born on March 30, 1968, in Charlemagne, Quebec, Canada, growing up in a large family as the youngest of 14 children. Her parents, Adhemar and Therese Dion, were deeply passionate about music, which played an integral role in Céline's upbringing. They formed a singing group called Dion's Family and toured Canada, allowing Céline to perform in front of audiences from a young age. By the time she turned five, her vocal talent was already shining through, captivating patrons at her family's piano bar.
Further establishing her dominance in the music industry, Dion released "The Colour of My Love" in 1993, which included the chart-topping power ballad "The Power of Love." The album reinforced her reputation as a pop music powerhouse and demonstrated her ability to connect emotionally with audiences through her music. Dion's performance at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, where she sang "The Power of the Dream," further solidified her status on the world stage. Her album "Falling Into You" garnered multiple Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, showcasing her incredible talent and ability to captivate fans worldwide with her heartwarming melodies.
Céline Dion's personal life has been deeply intertwined with her professional journey, particularly through her marriage to René Angélil, who was also her manager. The couple's romance blossomed in the early 1990s, and they tied the knot on December 17, 1994, at the Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec. Their relationship faced significant challenges, especially considering Angélil was 26 years her senior. Despite this age difference, they found common ground in their shared vision for Dion's career and a deep emotional connection, supporting each other through the highs of fame and the lows of personal struggles, including Angélil’s battle with cancer.
Throughout her career, Dion has released multiple best-selling albums, with notable works such as "Falling Into You" and “Let’s Talk About Love,” both of which contributed significantly to her wealth. Aside from music sales and concerts, her business ventures, including perfumes and merchandise, have bolstered her financial portfolio. Despite the challenges posed by her health condition, Dion's enduring popularity and talent continue to influence her financial success.
In the election of kings they have regard to birth; in that of generals, to valor. Their kings have not an absolute or unlimited power; and their generals command less through the force of authority, than of example. If they are daring, adventurous, and conspicuous in action, they procure obedience from the admiration they inspire.
The Germans transact no business, public or private, without being armed: but it is not customary for any person to assume arms till the state has approved his ability to use them.
In the field of battle, it is disgraceful for the chief to be surpassed in valor; it is disgraceful for the companions not to equal their chief; but it is reproach and infamy during a whole succeeding life to retreat from the field surviving him.
But the Rhine would not be the problem. It was the Danube that would prove to be the sieve through which the Germans would attack Rome and its Mediterranean provinces over a three hundred year period and bring down the empire in the west.
Who were these Germans?
They were not one people but a group of tribes inhabiting Germany and points east to the north shore of the Black Sea. Our knowledge of them is sketchy and the facts missing or unreliable, so we have to piece together the history. We do have their names and maps showing where they lived.
He was conscious that his mean and barbarian origin, his savage appearance, and his total ignorance of the arts and institutions of civil life, formed a very unfavorable contrast with the amiable manners of the unhappy Alexander. He remembered that, in his humbler fortune, he had often waited before the doors of the haughty nobles of Rome, and had been denied admittance by the insolence of their slaves. He recollected too the friendship of a few who had relieved his poverty, and assisted his rising hopes. But those who had spurned, and those who had protected, the Thracian, were guilty of the same crime, the knowledge of his original obscurity. For this crime many were put to death; and by the execution of several of his benefactors Maximinus published, in characters of blood, the indelible history of his baseness and ingratitude.
DiCaprio achieved international stardom with his role as Jack Dawson in James Cameron's Titanic (1997), which became a massive box office success and solidified his status as a leading man in Hollywood. Since then, he has collaborated with iconic directors such as Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino, delivering award-winning performances in films like The Aviator, The Departed, Inception, and The Wolf of Wall Street. With six Academy Award nominations to his name, DiCaprio finally clinched his first Oscar for Best Actor in The Revenant (2015), acknowledging both his remarkable skill and dedication to his craft in portraying complex characters.
Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio was born on November 11, 1974, in Los Angeles, California, to parents Irmelin and George DiCaprio. His name was inspired by a significant moment during his mother's pregnancy when she felt him kicking while admiring a Leonardo da Vinci painting in Florence. Raised primarily by his mother after his parents divorced when he was still a toddler, DiCaprio was influenced by her legal profession and his father's artistic background. Despite the early challenges of a broken home, he maintained a close relationship with his father, who encouraged his creative pursuits, especially in acting.

Elated by success, the army became enervated by luxury, and felt themselves raised above their subjects by their dangerous privileges, so that they became incapable of military fatigue, oppressive to the country, and impatient of a just subordination.
As Severus ruled Rome as his possession and the army became a threat, he was also faced with the conflict between his two sons Caracalla and Geta, who despised each other.
Severus foretold that the weaker of his two sons would fall a sacrifice to the stronger; who would in his turn, be ruined by his own vices.
A year after Geta's death Caracalla left Rome never to return. He traveled throughout the eastern provinces overseeing the murder of thousands. In Alexandria, for example, he ordered a general massacre killing several thousand for no reason. And so the empire under Caracalla degraded further as Gibbon tells us:
The liberality of the father has been restrained by prudence, and his indulgence to the troops was tempered by firmness and authority. The careless profusion of the son was the policy of one reign, and the inevitable ruin both of the army and the empire. The vigor of the soldiers, instead of being confirmed by the severe discipline of camps, melted away in the luxury of cities.
Most people exposed to Roman history have heard Edward Gibbon’s The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire mentioned. This work has long been considered essential reading for those interested in the Roman Empire, but I never got around to it for some reason. Maybe I thought it would be too big to tackle – six volumes – or maybe I thought I knew why Rome fell. It is the purpose of this blog, however, to educate and enlighten so we need to include the contribution of Gibbon.
In addition to legal wrangling, Bell's patent for the telephone paved the way for substantial developments in the communication landscape. After its success, he founded the Bell Telephone Company in 1877, securing substantial funding to expand the technology. Under Bell's leadership, the company spearheaded the proliferation of telephone usage across the United States, revolutionizing how people communicated. Innovations continued, including enhancements to telephone design and functionality, which positioned Bell and his company as leaders in the telecommunications industry. The legal and technological victories solidified Bell's legacy as a pioneering force in modern communication.
Bell's earnings were further augmented by his endeavors in various fields of invention, including the photophone, metal detector, and early hydrofoil technology. He was not a particularly astute businessman and often relied on associates like Gardiner Hubbard, his father-in-law, for management. However, the commercial success of his inventions and the widespread adoption of the telephone significantly increased his wealth. By the early 1900s, Bell was one of the wealthiest individuals in America, with a net worth bolstered by the growing demand for communication technology, demonstrating that his genius and innovations had lasting financial implications in addition to their historical significance.
This hatred of the right has always surfaced into blood-baths. The Revolutions inspired by Marxism were great purges of anyone who disagreed. Under Biden, they manipulated the Constitution and told Big Tech to censor people they did not like. They started the Cancel Culture. CNN and MSNBC have become toxic, and their viewership has collapsed because of their anti-American positions that promote only one side. Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman agreed that his party’s brand has grown “toxic“ after years of “shaming and scolding” voters and even questioned if they can turn it around.
Glen Campbell, renowned for his musical talents and crossover appeal, enjoyed a prosperous career in the entertainment industry that contributed significantly to his wealth. By the time of his passing in 2017, Campbell's net worth was estimated to be around $50 million. Much of his financial success stemmed from his ability to straddle the lines between country and pop music, as well as his successful ventures in television and film. His hit singles, such as "Rhinestone Cowboy" and "Gentle on My Mind," not only topped charts but also generated substantial royalties, reinforcing his status as a respected artist in both genres.
I’m born and raised in San Diego and it has been so fun these last 5 years to have some hope. It makes me sad as a fan to think it may already be coming to an end. It sucks to think we only can be competitive when our owner is terminally ill and willing to spend because he no longer cared about money. RIP. Hopefully his siblings sell the team to someone who has real money and is willing to spend to bring a championship to this city that has the longest drought in sports. This city has been super loyal to the Padres especially after losing the chargers. These fans have suffered through decades of being a glorified farm team for big markets teams like the dodgers, Red Sox, and Yankees since Tony Gwynn retired. Just one championship before I die.
Conan O'Brien met Liza Powel in 2000 during a skit on his late-night show, Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Their chemistry immediately sparked interest, leading to a romantic relationship that blossomed over the next year. Liza, who was working as an advertising executive at the time, became a significant part of Conan's life both personally and professionally. Their connection extended beyond the typical Hollywood romance, rooted in shared humor and intellectual engagement, which often surfaced in O'Brien’s comedic routines.
Reeve was the proud father of three children. He had a son, William, with Dana, who was born after their marriage. From his previous relationship with model Gae Exton, Reeve had two other children: Matthew and Alexandra. Despite the challenges he faced after his tragic accident, Reeve prioritized his family and remained actively engaged in their lives. The strength of his family played an integral role in his ability to overcome adversity and continue spreading hope for those living with disabilities.
The non-profit aims to increase BTC adoption across workers, unions, and pension funds—citing research that suggests 60% of consumers live paycheck to paycheck.
Proof of Workforce was founded by California firefighter Dom Bei, who helped the Santa Monica Firefighters Union to self-custody Bitcoin. The highway patrol association said it would seek to self-custody a portion of their holdings, if they do ultimately buy Bitcoin.
William Cuthbert Falkner, known as William Faulkner, was born on September 25, 1897, in New Albany, Mississippi. The grandson of author William Clark Falkner, his family had a deep-rooted legacy in the South, steeped in diverse professions including politics and law. Maud Butler Faulkner, his mother, and Lelia Butler, his grandmother, nurtured his artistic inclinations, particularly in reading and the arts. His family structure included Caroline Barr, a Black woman referred to as his "mammy," who played a prominent role in shaping his understanding of race and morality in the South.
This debasing of the Empire caused an immediate reaction among the province commanders. At least three expressed their disgust and declared their intension to assume the position of emperor: Clodius Albinus, governor of Britain, Pescennius Niger, governor of Syria, and Septimius Severus, governor of Upper Pannonia near the middle Danube. Severus had two advantages over the others and they contributed to his eventual success: he was closest to Rome and more aggressive. While Niger dawdled and Albinus was content with a Severus offer of truce, the latter packed up his army and marched to Rome, making the entire 800 mile journey in 40 days. Julianus’ execution was the first order of business after which Severus turned his attention to the Praetorians. He ordered them to muster in a field outside the city walls without weapons. They were surrounded by the Illyrian army with spears pointed at them.
William Faulkner’s later years marked a period of immense literary achievement and recognition. After struggling for many years to establish himself as a significant voice in American literature, his work gained renewed attention following the publication of "The Portable Faulkner" in 1946. This collection played a critical role in reigniting interest in his writing, which ultimately led to the publication of "Intruder in the Dust" in 1948. This novel addressed themes of racial injustice and social realities in the South, solidifying Faulkner's commitment to exploring complex social issues through his unique narrative styles, including stream of consciousness and intricate character development.
During the time of the Caesars there were occasional periods of calm. One of these, known as the Golden Age – 98 A.D. to 180 A.D. – is the subject of this article. There are no obvious clues to explain why the empire functioned so well during this period. The four men in charge had very different personalities and they were not equal in ability. Many wars were fought and each man was challenged by instability, yet the empire ran smoothly. Maybe it was luck.
Let’s look at each of these four men in detail so we can understand the threads that drove the empire during this time. For each I have included an image of their silver denarius from my collection. The coins lend a physical reality to the story of the man.
William Faulkner, a seminal figure in American literature, attained significant financial success during his writing career. Although exact figures regarding his net worth at the time of his passing in 1962 are difficult to ascertain, it is evident that his earnings reflected his status as a celebrated author. His novels, such as "The Sound and the Fury" and "As I Lay Dying," garnered considerable acclaim and saw an increase in book sales, especially after receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1949. The awards and recognition he received undoubtedly enhanced his financial standing, enabling him to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle.
Trajan reigned from 98-117. Loved by all feared by none, save the enemy. Trajan was considered by many as the greatest Roman emperor after Augustus. A saying went “may you be as lucky as Augustus and as great as Trajan”. The son of the commander of the tenth legion who became consul in 70 A.D, Trajan was the first Roman emperor not born in Italy (Seville). He was commander of the seventh legion in Spain and found favor with Commodus before the latter’s assassination. Later made governor of upper Germany in 96 A.D. and adopted by emperor Nerva, Trajan was a born warrior who loved the fight. He suppressed Dacia (modern Romania) in the period 101-106 and the Parthians (Iran) during the years 114-117 before a stroke killed him at Cilia (Southeastern Turkey).
Born on August 1, 1770, in Virginia, Clark was a member of a large family and the ninth of ten siblings. He was heavily influenced by his family's military background, with multiple brothers having fought in the American Revolutionary War. In 1795, he became friends with Lewis while serving together in the U.S. Army. Later, Clark married Julia Hancock in 1808 and took on the responsibilities of caring for Sacagawea's children after her passing in 1812. His post-expedition career included serving as governor of the Missouri Territory and working diligently in Indigenous affairs, showcasing his commitment to fair treatment and relations with Native peoples.
William Clark was born on August 1, 1770, in Caroline County, Virginia, into a prominent family with English and Scottish roots. He was the ninth of ten children in a large household led by his parents, John and Ann Rogers Clark. Growing up in a military family, Clark was influenced by the exploits of his five older brothers, who all participated in the American Revolutionary War. His brothers' military histories inspired him to join the U.S. Army at the age of 19, where he would eventually form a lasting friendship with Meriwether Lewis, setting the stage for his later contributions to American exploration.
Clark received a blend of formal and informal education during his youth, which included both learning the fundamentals of reading and writing and acquiring practical skills essential for survival in the wilderness. This comprehensive upbringing enabled him to develop a keen interest in the natural world. His experiences in the military further expanded his knowledge, shaping his abilities as an outdoorsman and a leader. When he resigned from the army in 1796, he took on the management of his family estate, but his adventurous spirit and desire for exploration would soon lead him to embark on his most significant journey with Lewis in the great unknown westward territories.
In addition to raising their own children, Clark assumed the responsibility for the children of Sacagawea after her untimely death in 1812. He embraced this role as part of his commitment to supporting the families affected by the expedition. With Julia, he raised their own children, creating a household that combined both families. This familial bond showcased Clark's dedication to nurturing relationships and exemplified the blending of cultures during a transformative period in American history. Clark’s nurturing presence and leadership extended beyond his immediate family, reflecting his values and the legacy he wished to leave behind.
William Clark's financial status during and after the famous Lewis and Clark Expedition reflected both the opportunities and challenges of early 19th-century America. While exact figures regarding his net worth remain elusive, Clark benefited significantly from his role as co-commander of the Corps of Discovery. Upon successfully concluding the expedition, he and Meriwether Lewis were celebrated as national heroes, which undoubtedly enhanced their public standing and potential earning capacity. They received extra pay and land grants, which likely contributed to Clark's financial stability.
Dio said of him, “He did not meet with the good fortune he deserved for he was not strong in body and was involved in a multitude of troubles throughout his reign.” We see in Marcus’ Meditations the stoic spirit of a man reconciled to a life he had not wished for himself:
“Oh wretched I to whom this mischance has happened… I can continue without grief; neither wounded by that which is present, nor in fear of that which is to come. For as for this, it might have happened to any man…”
What of these four men -- the men that reigned in the golden age of the empire? A warrior, a man comfortable with battle, a peaceful man, and a philosopher forced to be a warrior. They represent all that can be good in men along with the faults all men possess. Rome could have used more like them.
Maya Ray Thurman Hawke was born on July 8, 1998, in New York City to two prominent actors, Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. Growing up in a creative household, she was introduced to the world of arts early on. Maya’s parents met in 1996 during the filming of the sci-fi thriller "Gattaca," and shortly after their marriage in May 1998, they welcomed Maya into the world. She has one younger brother, Levon, born in 2002, and also has three younger half-sisters from her parents' subsequent relationships. The family dynamic played a significant role in shaping her artistic sensibilities.
In addition to her achievements in television and film, Maya Hawke has carved out a space for herself in the music industry as an indie-folk singer and songwriter. She released her debut album, Blush, in August 2020, showcasing her introspective lyrics and unique sound. This was followed by her second album, Moss, in September 2022, which further highlighted her growth as a musician. Hawke sees music as an extension of her artistry, providing her a means to express her poetry and emotions. Performing her songs on platforms like The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has solidified her presence in the music scene, showcasing her multifaceted talent beyond acting.
In a lighthearted moment shared during a June 2023 appearance on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen," Hawke recounted a humorous anecdote about lying to her parents. She mentioned claiming to go to therapy while actually planning to lose her virginity, a revelation that upset her father. This candid moment reflects her ability to weave humor into her life stories, even while navigating the complexities of young adulthood and relationships.
Otho was a useless, dissipated man who was short on capacity to lead. He was surprised to read in Galba’s correspondence the depth of the rebellion in Germany and the support Vitellius was receiving there. When Vitellius began a move toward Rome, Otho took his troops north to try and block entrance to Italy but arrived too late. When in haste he decided to attack Vitellius at Bedriacum and was defeated, Otho committed suicide on April 16th 69 A.D.
By July, the legions in the east has declared for Vespasian. Otho’s adherents, looking for a new savior, agreed to support him. Vitellius sought to meet Vespasian in the field but was held back by the Praetorians. After his army was defeated by surrogates of Vespasian, Vitellius was assassinated on December 22, 69 A.D, elevating the fourth man to emperor in a single year.
The map above shows the rivals for control of the empire and their movements during 68-70 A.D.
Vespasian was more shrewd than his adversaries: capitalizing on prophesies that a great military man would come out of Judea by advertising them vigorously, traveling to Egypt to secure the Roman gain supply, and using his son, Domitian, along with a colleague Mucianus to administer Rome until he arrived midway through 70 A.D.
Vespasian built the Coliseum in 70, and reigned successfully for ten years. His sons were not so lucky, however. Titus reigned from 79-81 A.D. during the time of the Vesuvius eruption, and died prematurely of fever. Domitian turned out to be a hated tyrant and was assassinated in 96 A.D.
They knew this kid was not a terrorist, so they put him on diesel therapy, where they moved you in chains every day from one prison to the next so you could not contact anyone and nobody could find you in the system. This kid was terrified, mentally tortured, and starved. He came to me with his papers and asked me what was happening, for he no longer trusted court-appointed lawyers. I read his papers, and it said if he agreed, the government would deport him on a plane that night, but he could never sue the government for what they did to him. I explained he would be deported that night. He took the deal, or else he would have been on diesel therapy until he died. He took the deal and was deported. They do not dare to put the alleged terrorists on trial in Guantanamo Bay. No trial;. They are there without charges and will die in prison. Nobody gives a shit about them, and that is a green light to others that they can do that to Americans.
In 1997, Beau Biden began his legal career as a federal prosecutor at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Philadelphia. During his five-year tenure, he focused on various criminal cases and gained a reputation for his dedication and excellence in the courtroom. His work in this role not only honed his legal skills but also underscored his commitment to public service and justice. Beau's experience as a prosecutor would serve as a foundation for his later work as Delaware’s attorney general, where he continued to advocate for the protection of victims' rights and the enforcement of laws.
During the 2008 Democratic National Convention held in Denver, Colorado, Beau Biden delivered a poignant speech introducing his father, Joe Biden, as the vice presidential nominee. In his address, Beau shared heartfelt anecdotes reflecting their close father-son relationship, particularly emphasizing how the tragic car accident in 1972 that claimed the lives of his mother and younger sister indelibly shaped their family. He recalled a significant moment during his childhood when Joe chose to be at his and Hunter's side in the hospital rather than take the Senate oath of office. This powerful testimony underscored not only Joe Biden's dedication as a father but also highlighted the profound values of family that have grounded their family narrative.
Following his military service in the Delaware National Guard, which included a deployment to Iraq, Beau was also recognized with a Bronze Star for his contributions. This public service not only highlights his commitment to both his country and his state but also reflects a more complex aspect of potential earnings related to military pensions and benefits. His financial profile approximated a range of mid-six figures at the height of his career, aligning with similar profiles of public officials combined with private sector earnings. Though his untimely passing at the age of 46 cut short his potential for further financial and career growth, Beau Biden's legacy is enriched by a life of service rather than mere financial pursuits.

Cole Sprouse was born on August 4, 1992, in Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy, just fifteen minutes after his identical twin brother, Dylan. Their parents, Matthew Sprouse and Melanie Wright, were English teachers residing in Italy at the time. The family relocated to Southern California when the twins were only four months old, setting the stage for Cole and Dylan’s future in the entertainment industry. Encouraged by their grandmother, who was an actress and drama teacher, the Sprouse brothers began acting at a young age. This early start was driven by the family's financial needs, turning into a prosperous career that saw the twins quickly rise to stardom.
The success of "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" extended beyond the main series, leading to a spin-off titled "The Suite Life on Deck," which aired from 2008 to 2011. Apple TV+'s Android release on Wednesday is Apple first major subscription service launch for Google's platform in 10 years.
Apple TV+ is now available on Android devices as the iPhone maker on Wednesday released its video streaming service for Google's mobile computing platform.
It's unusual for Apple to release Android apps. The company typically focuses on software for its own iOS and MacOS platforms, but Wednesday's release is the latest sign that Apple won't be limiting the growth potential of its Services division by keeping popular services like Apple TV+ exclusive to its own devices.
More people have iPhones than Android phones in the U.S., but globally, Android claims a 72% market share, according to Statcounter. Releasing Android apps significantly expands Apple's market.
Apple's Services business is its second largest behind iPhone sales, and Services hit a $100 billion per year revenue rate last year. In addition to subscriptions like iCloud, the unit also includes sales from advertising, search deals with Google, AppleCare warranties and payment fees from Apple Pay.
Cisco topped analysts' estimates and lifted its full-year guidance due in part to orders for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Cisco shares climbed about 6% in extended trading on Wednesday after the networking hardware maker reported fiscal second-quarter results and guidance that topped Wall Street's expectations.
Here's how the company did against LSEG consensus:
Earnings per share: 94 cents adjusted vs. 91 cents expected
Revenue: $13.99 billion vs. $13.87 billion expected
Revenue increased 9% in the quarter, which ended on Jan. 25, from $12.79 billion a year earlier, according to a statement. The growth follows four quarters of revenue declines. The company said it had orders for artificial intelligence infrastructure that exceeded $350 million in the quarter.
Cisco now sees adjusted earnings of $3.68 to $3.74 for the 2025 fiscal year, with $56 billion to $56.5 billion in revenue. Analysts polled by LSEG had been looking for $3.66 in adjusted earnings per share and $55.99 billion in revenue. In November, the forecast was $3.60 to $3.66 in earnings per share and $55.3 billion to $56.3 billion in revenue.
Reddit reported better-than-expected results, but the company issued disappointing user numbers.
Reddit shares fell more than 15% on Wednesday after the company reported weaker-than-expected user numbers in its fourth-quarter earnings.
Here's how the company did compared with LSEG estimates:
Earnings per share: 36 cents vs. 25 cents expected
Revenue: $428 million vs. $405 million expected
Global daily active uniques, or DAUq, rose 39% from a year earlier to an average of 101.7 million for the fourth quarter. That trailed Wall Street estimates of 103.1 million.
A Google search algorithm change caused some "volatility" with user growth in the fourth quarter, but the company's search-related traffic has since recovered in the first quarter, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said in a letter to shareholders.
"What happened wasn't unusual — referrals from search fluctuate from time to time, and they primarily affect logged-out users," Huffman wrote. "Our teams have navigated numerous algorithm updates and did an excellent job adapting to these latest changes effectively."
Musk reiterated those concerns on Thursday, speaking to an audience via videolink at the World Governments Summit in Dubai.
Asked by the United Arab Emirates' AI Minister Omar al Olama whether a company like OpenAI could really scale as a non-profit, Musk replied:
"I think the evidence was there in that OpenAI has gotten this far while having at least a sort of dual profit, non-profit role. What they're trying to do now is completely delete the non-profit. And that seems really going too far."
Amazingly, the chief minister of Honorius, Olympius, rejected the treaty and its alternatives. He ordered 6,000 troops to march from Ravenna to Rome to reinforce the city. This entire army was destroyed before it reached its destination.
"Yet Alaric, instead of resenting this act of impotent hostility, immediately renewed his proposals of peace; and the second embassy of the Roman senate, which derived weight and dignity from the presence of Innocent, bishop of the city, was guarded from the dangers of the road by a detachment of Gothic soldiers."
"I provided all of the funding for OpenAI for the first almost $50 million for nothing, as a non-profit, and it was meant to be open source," Musk went on. "And so, you know, I think this is analogous to, like ... if you find a non-profit to preserve the Amazon rainforest, but then ... instead they turn into a lumber company and chop down the trees and sell them for wood."
While domestic rivals such as Huawei have touted AI features on their devices since last year, Apple has been quiet about its 'Apple Intelligence' push in the market, despite plans to launch in the U.S. this fall.
Apple Intelligence is the Cupertino-based company's plan to bring AI across its devices, featuring an improved version of its voice assistant Siri, as well as features that automatically organize emails and transcribe and summarize audio.
Analysts have told CNBC that Apple's AI rollout in China has likely stalled due to China's stringent rules on the technology.
Sony sold 9.5 million units of its PlayStation 5 console in the December quarter, up from 8.2 million in the same period a year ago.
The December quarter is a key period for Sony, covering the popular holiday shopping season which is often a lucrative time for consumer electronics firms.
In the previous quarter, Sony raised its sales guidance for the 2025 fiscal year, revising its forecast for revenue up slightly to 12.7 trillion yen from 12.6 trillion yen previously.
While the emperor and his court enjoyed, with sullen pride, the security of the marshes and fortifications of Ravenna, they abandoned Rome, almost without defense, to the resentment of Alaric. Yet such was the moderation which he still preserved, or affected, that, as he moved with his army along the Flaminian way, he successively dispatched the bishops of the towns of Italy to reiterate his offers of peace, and to congratulate the emperor, that he would save the city and its inhabitants from hostile fire, and the sword of the Barbarians.
These impending calamities were, however, averted, not indeed by the wisdom of Honorius, but by the prudence or humanity of the Gothic king; who employed a milder, though not less effectual, method of conquest. Instead of assaulting the capital, he successfully directed his efforts against the Port of Ostia, one of the boldest and most stupendous works of Roman magnificence.”
The new initiative by Google's "Core" team comes despite the company reorganization that unit last year, laying off hundreds of employees and moving some roles to India and Mexico, CNBC reported at the time.
“The proclamation of Alaric, when he forced his entrance into a vanquished city, discovered, however, some regard for the laws of humanity and religion. He encouraged his troops boldly to seize the rewards of valor, and to enrich themselves with the spoils of a wealthy and effeminate people: but he exhorted them, at the same time, to spare the lives of the unresisting citizens, and to respect the churches of the apostles, St. Peter and St. Paul, as holy and inviolable sanctuaries.
AppLovin soars almost 30% on earnings, guidance beat
After a banner year that saw AppLovin's stock jump more than 700%, the company reported better-than-expected results for the fourth quarter.
AppLovin shares soared almost 30% in extended trading on Wednesday after the company reported earnings and revenue that sailed past analysts' estimates and issued better-than-expected guidance.
Here's how the company performed compared with analysts' expectations, according to LSEG:
Earnings per share: $1.73 vs. $1.24 expected
Revenue: $1.37 billion vs. $1.26 billion expected
Net income in the quarter more than tripled to $599.2 million, or $1.73 per share, from $172.3 million, or 51 cents per share, a year earlier, the company said in a statement.
Revenue jumped 43% from $953.3 million a year earlier.
AppLovin was the best-performing U.S. tech stock last year, soaring more than 700%, driven by the company's artificial intelligence-powered advertising system. In 2023, AppLovin released the updated 2.0 version of its ad search engine called AXON, which helps put more targeted ads on the gaming apps the company owns and is also used by studios that license the technology.
The Goths evacuated Rome on the sixth day. Weighted down by spoils, they proceeded south through Campania destroying everything in their path. Then, when Alaric reached Rhegium, he decided to cross to Sicily and see what he could find of value there. A crossing was arranged but a storm blew up during the passage that sank many ships. The plan was permanently abandoned when Alaric died unexpectedly.
The sack of Rome is a story of the pride of ages and its refusal to see reason. Oddly, it was the barbarian, Alaric, who was reasonable instead of the Romans. All he wanted for himself, and his people, was land within the empire that would protect them from the Huns. They respected what the Romans had accomplished and sought friendship and affiliation, but the Romans lacked the ability to see the world in its new form.
AppLovin's business has been split between advertising and apps, which is primarily made up of game studios that the company has acquired over the years. With the historic growth in its advertising unit, the apps business has become much less important, and now the company says it is selling it off.
"Today we're announcing we've signed an exclusive term sheet to sell all of our apps business," CEO Adam Foroughi said on the earnings call.
Reddit's sales jumped 71% in the quarter from $250 million a year earlier, the fastest growth rate for any quarter since 2022.
The company said first-quarter sales will be between $360 million and $370 million, ahead of the average analyst estimate of $358 million.
Net income almost quadrupled to $71 million, or 36 cents a share, from $18.5 million, or breakeven on a per-share basis, a year earlier. Reddit reported adjusted earnings of $154 million in the fourth quarter, topping analysts' expectations of $128 million.
Also last week, Alphabet said its Google advertising sales grew 11% from a year prior to $72.46 billion, while YouTube ad revenue jumped 14% to $10.47 billion in the fourth quarter. Snap, meanwhile, reported fourth-quarter revenue growth of 14% year over year to $1.56 billion.
In late January, Meta said its revenue for the fourth quarter came in at $48.39 billion, up 21% from the previous year. Microsoft also reported that its news advertising sales increased 21% year over year in its latest quarterly earnings. Microsoft does not disclose that unit's quarterly sales figures.
Splunk, which Cisco bought in March 2024 for $27 billion, was accretive to adjusted earnings per share sooner than planned, Scott Herren, Cisco's finance chief, was quoted as saying in the statement. Cisco's total revenue would have been down 1% year over year if not for Splunk's contribution, according to the statement.
Besides a few niche apps, Apple doesn't have a long track record of making Android apps. Its last significant services app for the Google platform was a decade ago when the company released its Apple Music streaming service for Android.
The Apple TV+ app is available to download through the Google Play app store, and users will be able to pay with their Google accounts. Apple did not disclose a revenue-sharing arrangement with Google, but both companies typically take about 15% of billings from streaming services through their app stores.
While in Washington, Modi will spend time with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as well as Howard Lutnick, Trump's nominee to run the Commerce Department.
Modi will also have a one-on-one meeting with Musk, who is overseeing the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, with a focus on slashing federal programs and regulations. Modi's discussion with the world's richest person is expected to center on AI policy, Starlink's expansion into India and Tesla's ability to open up a plant in the country, the government official said.
Now Constantine was in control of the western empire and Licinius was in control of the east. The latter had come to power in 308 A.D. as the nominee of Galerius to replace Severus in the west. But he was never able to defeat Maxentius so he had to be content to stay in the Balkans and control the eastern provinces. The uneasy partnership between Constantine and Licinius lasted for twelve years. Uneasy because Constantine’s temperament would not allow any compromise in his vision for Rome. That vision had two major components: making Christianity part of Roman life and becoming sole emperor.
A White House spokesperson did not respond to CNBC's request for comment.
On technology, Modi and his team will also reinforce their interest in buying high-performance graphics processing units, or GPUs, from the U.S. and in avoiding any forthcoming export controls from the Trump administration. In a recent trip to Mumbai, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang expressed interest in partnering with India's Reliance Industries to further the country's AI efforts.
It will not be the first meeting between the Indian leader and Musk.
Just before Modi's state visit to Washington in 2023, Musk met with Modi in New York to discuss slashing electric vehicle import duties in India and other ways Tesla's expansion into India could become a reality.
Tesla has not publicly shared a plan to build a factory in India, and has instead continued to focus on China. But India has become a big growth market for U.S. tech.
Apple, Meta, Microsoft, Google and Amazon have pledged billions of dollars of investment in India's growth and to capitalize on the country's emerging middle class.
In the field, he infused his own intrepid spirit into the troops, whom he conducted with the talents of a consummate general; and to his abilities, rather than to his fortune, we may ascribe the signal victories which he obtained over the foreign and domestic foes of the republic. He loved glory as the reward, perhaps as the motive, of his labors. The boundless ambition, which, from the moment of his accepting the purple at York, appears as the ruling passion of his soul, may be justified by the dangers of his own situation, by the character of his rivals, by the consciousness of superior merit, and by the prospect that his success would enable him to restore peace and order to the distracted empire. In his civil wars against Maxentius and Licinius, he had engaged on his side the inclinations of the people, who compared the undissembled vices of those tyrants with the spirit of wisdom and justice which seemed to direct the general tenor of the administration of Constantine.”
Jersey City is an interesting, if challenging, choice. Particularly in February, when a mixture of snow, rain, and freezing temperatures could make it difficult for the little bots to make their deliveries.
Avride says its bots can operate in the snow and in “moderate precipitation.” A spokesperson for the company also noted that while the bots can travel up to 5 miles per hour with a range 31 miles on a single charge, their optimal delivery range is within one to two miles.
The filing is the latest development in a saga that began on Monday, when Musk, his AI company, xAI, and a group of investors offered to buy the nonprofit that effectively governs OpenAI for $97.4 billion. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and the company’s board quickly dismissed the unsolicited proposal. In a statement, Andy Nussbaum, the counsel representing OpenAI’s board, said Musk’s bid “doesn’t set a value for [OpenAI’s] nonprofit” and that the nonprofit is “not for sale.”
Musk, an OpenAI co-founder, last year brought a lawsuit against the company and Altman that alleges that OpenAI engaged in anticompetitive behavior and fraud, among other offenses.
Before his death, Constantine devised a plan to divide the empire between his four sons, an attempt to re-create the tetrarchy he had dismantled years before. But the plan did not take root because the sons became rivals instead of partners. Constantine II was killed in battle in 340 A.D and Constans was over thrown and killed in 350 A.D. The remaining son, Constantius II, named an associate Julian in 360 A.D, who turned on his mentor and killed him in 361 A.D. Julian died suspiciously in 363 while fighting the Persians and his replacement Jovian died the next year when he was poisoned by carbon monoxide from a fire in his tent.
The death of Constantine left Rome with no heir to the throne, so the army chose a Pannonian officer of humble origin, Valentinian, to replace him. He assumed power as Valentinian I in the west and named his brother Valens to control the Balkans and points to the east. Valentinian spent his entire reign fighting the Germans: the Alemanni during the 360s A.D. and then the Quadi and Sarmatians in the 370s. He died of a stroke in 375 A.D.
The fame of a great enterprise excited the bravest warriors from all the Vandalic states of Germany, many of whom are seen a few years afterwards combating under the common standard of the Goths. The first motions of the emigrants carried them to the banks of the Prypec, a river universally conceived by the ancients to be the southern branch of the Borysthenes (Dneiper). As the Goths advanced near the Euxine Sea, they encountered a purer race of Sarmatians, the Jazyges, the Alani, and the Roxolani; and they were probably the first Germans who saw the mouths of the Borysthenes, and of the Tanais.
Containerization involves packaging software and its dependencies into portable, isolated environments (called “containers”), ensuring that the software runs consistently across all systems — on a local machine, server, or whatever cloud environment a company wishes to deploy on.
So as AI and cloud converge, with Docker pushing its own AI tools into the mix, Docker sees a new opportunity ahead.
McCain attended Episcopal High School, an elite boarding school in Alexandria, Virginia, where he graduated in 1954. He then followed in his family's footsteps by enrolling at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Despite facing challenges academically, graduating fifth from the bottom of his class in 1958, his commitment to a military career remained unwavering. Following his graduation, he completed flight school in 1960, preparing for a life of service that would ultimately lead him into combat during the Vietnam War.
John McCain embarked on his political journey in 1976 when he was appointed as the Navy's liaison to the U.S. Senate. This role paved the way for his transition from military service to political service. In 1981, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked in public relations for his father-in-law's beer distribution company. It was during this time that he cultivated valuable political connections that would soon lead him to public office. McCain was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982, easily securing a seat largely due to his celebrated war record, overcoming initial skepticism about his "carpetbagger" status.
Years later, McCain officially announced his entry into the 2008 presidential race, gaining the Republican nomination amidst a crowded field. His campaign highlighted his extensive military experience and dedication to national service, resonating with voters, especially after the 9/11 attacks. However, the 2008 election was marked by an unprecedented wave of support for his opponent, then-Senator Barack Obama. Despite spirited debates and a focus on key issues such as economics and foreign policy, McCain ultimately lost the election, which solidified Obama’s position as the first African American president in U.S. history.
Claudius was followed by Aurelian who also spent his time fighting the Germans. The Vandals attacked first in 271 but were successfully driven back across the Danube. While this was going on the Juthungi and the Marcomanni attacked northern Italy. The threat to Italy was so great Aurelian decided to construct a new wall around Rome to protect it from barbarian invaders. In 272 A.D, he made the decision to abandon Dacia because the Gothic presence there made the controlling the province impossible. Later, in 275 A.D, Aurelian suppressed an incursion by the Juthungi on his way to fight the Persians, but he was murdered as he prepared to cross the Bosphorus.
The last of our emperors in this segment is Probus, who ascended following the short reigns of Tacitus and Florianus. He first had to deal with an attack on Gaul by Franks, Vandals, and Burgundians in 277 A.D, which took two years to put down -- the most serious unrest in Gaul in 300 years. The remainder of his reign (three years) involved putting down insurrections among his own generals. In 283 A.D, they finally murdered him.
Here we reach an inflection point in the history of the empire. As the year 284 A.D. unfolded, a period of quiescence began which would last about eighty years. The driving forces behind this trend were two: strong leadership and a new model for managing the vast territory that was the Roman Empire.
Richard Allensworth Jewell, originally born Richard White on December 17, 1962, in Danville, Virginia, experienced a tumultuous early life. His parents' divorce when he was just four years old led him to grow up with his mother, Bobi, who later remarried an insurance executive, adopting the surname Jewell. The family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where Richard's formative years unfolded. He was known as a diligent and earnest young man, often taking on roles like a crossing guard and operating the movie projector at the local library. Despite his helpful demeanor, he struggled with building friendships during his high school years.
Richard Jewell, the security guard who discovered the bomb at Centennial Olympic Park during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, found himself embroiled in legal battles and intense media scrutiny. After initially being hailed as a hero for his quick actions in evacuating the area before the device detonated, he was suddenly thrust into the role of a suspect. The intense coverage by various media outlets, particularly The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, spread unfounded claims implying Jewell may have planted the bomb. This abrupt shift in public perception was devastating for Jewell, impacting both his personal and professional life.
“Now from this island of Scandza, as from a hive of races or a womb of nations, the Goths are said to have come forth long ago under their king, Berig by name. As soon as they disembarked from their ships and set foot on the land, they straightway gave their name to the place. And even to-day it is said to be called Gothiscandza. Soon they moved from here to the abodes of the Ulmerugi, who then dwelt on the shores of Ocean where they pitched camp, joined battle with them and drove them from their homes. Then they subdued their neighbors, the Vandals, and thus added to their victories.
But when the number of the people increased greatly and Filimer, son of Gadaric, reigned as king--about the fifth since Berig--he decided that the army of the Goths with their families should move from that region. In search of suitable homes and pleasant places they came to the land of Scythia, called Oium in that tongue. Here they were delighted with the great richness of the country, and it is said that when half the army had been brought over, the bridge whereby they had crossed the river fell in utter ruin, nor could anyone thereafter pass to or fro”.
Jewell and Dana eventually married, forging a partnership that aimed to bring normalcy back into his life. Together, they faced the trials that came from being in the public eye and the long-term impact of the media frenzy that had once defined Jewell's existence. Their marriage symbolized not just a union of love but also a shared commitment to healing and moving forward. For Jewell, Dana’s unwavering support represented a turning point, as he gradually transitioned from the trauma of his past to a future filled with hope and potential.
Richard Jewell was a security guard known for discovering a bomb at Centennial Olympic Park during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. His quick actions helped to evacuate the area and save lives, although he later faced intense scrutiny and was wrongly labeled as a suspect in the bombing.
On July 27, 1996, Richard Jewell noticed a suspicious olive-green backpack under a bench at Centennial Olympic Park. After notifying authorities, the bomb was detonated, resulting in the death of two individuals and injuring 111 others. Jewell's actions were initially praised for their heroism.
Even iron is not plentiful among them; as may be inferred from the nature of their weapons. Swords or broad lances are seldom used; but they generally carry a spear, called in their language framea, which has an iron blade, short and narrow, but so sharp and manageable, that, as occasion requires, they employ it either in close or distant fighting.
This spear and a shield are all the armor of the cavalry. The foot have, besides, missile weapons, several to each man, which they hurl to an immense distance. They are either naked, or lightly covered with a small mantle; and have no pride in equipage: their shields only are ornamented with the choicest colors. Few are provided with a coat of mail and scarcely here and there one with a casque or helmet. Their horses are neither remarkable for beauty nor swiftness, nor are they taught the various evolutions practiced with us. The cavalry either bear down straight forwards, or wheel once to the right, in so compact a body that none is left behind the rest. Their principal strength, on the whole, consists in their infantry: hence in an engagement these are intermixed with the cavalry; so well accordant with the nature of equestrian combats is the agility of those foot soldiers, whom they select from the whole body of their youth, and place in the front of the line.
At just 12 years old, Dion took her first significant step towards a music career by recording a demo tape of a song she wrote with her mother. The tape caught the attention of renowned manager and producer René Angélil, who immediately saw her potential and signed her to his label, mortgaging his home to finance her debut album. This early investment paved the way for her remarkable career, as Dion went on to release nine French albums and win prestigious awards by the age of 18, setting the stage for her later success in English-speaking markets.
In late 2022, Dion went public about her diagnosis, revealing the toll it had taken on her life and career. Reflecting on her struggles, she expressed that the burden of concealing her condition became too much to bear. There is hope that her openness will raise awareness about SPS and encourage further research into the disorder. With ongoing treatment and a rigorous rehabilitation regimen, Dion continues to pursue a path toward recovery, maintaining her spirit and commitment to her passion for music. Though her future touring plans remain uncertain, she remains optimistic about reconnecting with her fans and reclaiming her spot in the spotlight.
Céline Dion is a French-Canadian singer renowned for her powerful vocal abilities and emotional ballads. She gained global fame with hit songs like "My Heart Will Go On," the title track from the blockbuster movie Titanic, which won numerous awards including an Academy Award and multiple Grammys.
Remember that Germania was written in 98 A.D. during the Gothic migration so he had no sense of the Goths as a major adversary of Rome. To him they were a single member of the tribes who occupied northeastern Germany during his time. They would not reach Scythia until two centuries later.
In the next post we move on to the growing conflict between the Goths and Rome starting in the mid-third century A.D.
Caesar spoke of the Chatten, Usipeter, and Friesen. But there were also larger tribes made up of absorbed smaller groups. The Goths, for example, consisted of Ostragoths (eastern branch) and Visigoths (western branch) with varying numbers of smaller tribes included in them. Many times the smaller tribes would go to war with their larger brethren, but remain separate.
Leonardo DiCaprio's journey into acting began at a young age, fueled by a strong creative inclination encouraged by his parents. Born in Los Angeles, he expressed a passionate interest in performance, often recreating characters and scenarios in playful skits for his family. Although he found typical schooling to be uninspiring, DiCaprio's determination to act led him to pursue auditions rigorously. Ultimately, he made the bold decision to drop out of high school, acquiring his general equivalency diploma to focus entirely on his acting career. This decision proved pivotal, allowing him to immerse himself in the burgeoning entertainment landscape of the early 1990s.
The unparalleled success of “Titanic” (1997) marked a significant turning point in DiCaprio's career. Co-starring with Kate Winslet, DiCaprio played Jack Dawson, a struggling artist who falls in love with a wealthy young woman aboard the ill-fated ship. The film's groundbreaking visual effects and epic storytelling resonated with audiences worldwide, leading it to become a cultural phenomenon. “Titanic” not only garnered 14 Academy Award nominations but also won 11, including Best Picture and Best Director. DiCaprio’s charming portrayal of Jack captivated millions, propelling him to superstar status and establishing him as a formidable leading man within the film industry.
(c) This Executive Order displaces all prior executive orders and regulations, insofar as they are subject to direct presidential amendment, that might serve as a barrier to providing USDS access to agency records and systems as described above.
Sec. 5. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:
(i) the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or
(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.
The unforgiving temper of Severus, stimulated by avarice, indulged a spirit of revenge where there was no room for apprehension..
And so his cruelty became a mask for misrule as he allowed the army to take on a new form which would threaten the future of the empire.
Severus possessed a considerable share of vigor and ability; but the daring soul of the first Caesar, or the deep policy of Augustus, were scarcely equal to the task of curbing the insolence of the victorious legions. By gratitude, by misguided policy, by seeming necessity, Severus was reduced to relax the nerves of discipline.
In addition to these long-term relationships, DiCaprio's dating history includes several brief flings with prominent figures in the entertainment industry. He was linked to actress Blake Lively in 2011, although their connection was short-lived. More recently, DiCaprio has been rumored to have dated various models, including Gigi Hadid. Reports suggest that he gravitates towards younger women, often dating models from high-profile fashion circles. His dating patterns have drawn both attention and criticism, fueling discussions about age dynamics in celebrity relationships.
Despite his initial happiness, Nostradamus's life took a devastating turn in 1534 when he lost his first wife and children, presumably to the plague while he was away on a medical mission. The shock of their demise profoundly affected him, resulting in a sense of disconnection from his community and a reevaluation of his life’s path. Eventually, after his second marriage to Anne, he sought to build a new life for his family as well as garner support for his intellectual pursuits, fostering an environment conducive to raising his children amidst the tumultuous backdrop of 16th-century France.
In addition to inventing the telephone, Bell contributed significantly to other fields, including aeronautics and hydrofoils. He formed the Aerial Experiment Association and developed several early flying machines. His innovative spirit extended beyond traditional inventions; Bell's work with deaf individuals helped improve speech education and fostered awareness of disabilities. His lifelong connection with the deaf community, exemplified by his friendship with Helen Keller, showcased his commitment to overcoming communication barriers. Bell's influence persists, with his inventions and humanitarian efforts continuing to inspire generations.
Gibbon’s writing style was praised by contemporary writers including the philosopher David Hume, Adam Smith, and Horace Walpole. His scholarship is very thorough, setting a standard for the time. Gibbon utilized all the available resources available to him and incorporated extensive footnotes and references into his volumes. There are mistakes, of course: some because of his lack of information or assumptions he made. There are also some biases, particularly with respect to religion, but these blemishes do not detract from the overall quality of this important work.
Gibbon begins volume one with a summary of the period from Augustus to Domitian, gets down to detail with Trajan, and moves forward through the life of the Caesars until the empire is no more. Here and in future posts I will identify and discuss the factors he cites as the causes of the collapse of the empire.
At 14, Campbell made the significant decision to drop out of school to pursue music full-time. He joined his uncle Dick Bills' band, the Sandia Mountain Boys, where he began to hone his craft. This early experience set the stage for his subsequent success. In 1958, he formed his own group, the Western Wranglers, and later moved to Los Angeles in search of broader opportunities in the music industry. This relocation proved pivotal as Campbell transitioned from performing in local bands to establishing himself as a renowned session guitarist, working with some of the biggest names in the music scene.
Trump merely took the acronym and repurposed it as the United States DOGE Service on January 20th, 2025. Instead of USDS (Digital Service), it became the U.S. DOGE Service to “implement the President’s DOGE Agenda.” There is NOTHING illegal about DOGE. Obama initially established it, and nobody screamed then. Nobody screamed when the Biden Administration was calling the shots, creating the Cancel Culture, and banks were closing accounts of gun dealers and gold dealers all because it offended Democrats.
In addition to his music career, Campbell's influence extended to television, particularly with the success of "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour," which further solidified his public image and generated income through sponsorships and advertising. His work as a session guitarist for major artists also helped bolster his earnings. Over the years, Glen Campbell’s multiple Grammy awards and honors—including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012—added to his legacy and financial success. Even after his health challenges due to Alzheimer's disease, his continued engagements and album releases showed that his earning potential remained strong until the end of his life.
From the very beginning Commodus cut an odd figure in his behavior; timid and weak in disposition while becoming a slave to his attendants. These traits caused him to delegate the management of the empire to a series of lieutenants. What followed logically, then, were conspiracies, and shortly after, attempts on his life. In 182 A.D. an assassin employed by Commodus’ sister Lucilla tried to stab him with a dagger and failed. The experience unnerved Commodus and turned him into a paranoid personality. He refused to appear in public and communications with him could only occur through intermediaries. Chiefs of staff rose and fell from power one after the other – most notably Perennis and then Cleander – as their behavior offended the people. Following the death of the latter, Commodus became an unhinged megalomaniac, demanding the Senate deify him and renaming Rome to Colonia Commodiana.

"Similar to a chaotic and unpredictable emergency situation, Bitcoin remains a reliable and stable long-term tool for workers and wage-earners amidst an ever-changing and expanding fiat-based monetary system," Bei said.
Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), the Republican pro-crypto senator for Wyoming, welcomed news that the state's highway patrol association is embracing BTC.

Her advocacy and statistical work shaped modern nursing practices and public health policies, ensuring a lasting legacy that resonates even today.
Ivanka Trump is a prominent American businesswoman and the daughter of former U.S. President Donald Trump and Ivana Trump. Born on October 30, 1981, in Manhattan, Ivanka initially gained fame as a model before pivoting toward a career in real estate. Following her graduation from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, she joined her father's company, the Trump Organization, where she rose to become the executive vice president of acquisitions and development. In addition to her work in real estate, she also founded her own fashion brand, the Ivanka Trump Collection, aiming to appeal to professional women.
I don't think there is necessarily only one model for intelligence possible, maybe AGI can work on principles quite different from the human brain (even by your own definition of AGI). We do not need to replicate, emulate or just understand in detail the workings of human/biological intelligence to build AGI - at least there is not much evidence (I know of) this is the case. But that does not mean we reach AGI just by scaling within the current approaches either. I just think the lack of understanding of the human brain was a rather weak argument, you may still be right on the larger point of AGI not being reachable using current approaches.
After gaining valuable experience at a real estate development firm, Ivanka Trump returned to her roots by joining the Trump Organization. She quickly ascended to the position of executive vice president of acquisitions and development, marking a significant milestone in her career. This role allowed her to work closely with her father, Donald Trump, and her brothers, Donald Jr. and Eric, on high-profile building projects and resorts. With her passion for entrepreneurship and keen business acumen, Ivanka played a pivotal role in solidifying the family's business legacy through innovative strategies and operational excellence.
In addition to her executive responsibilities, Ivanka co-founded the Trump Hotel Collection, a luxury hotel management company. Her contributions not only enhanced the brand's reputation but also showcased her ability to blend creativity with corporate strategy. While balancing her duties within the family business, Ivanka also gained national recognition as a television personality, serving as a co-judge on NBC's hit show "Celebrity Apprentice" from 2006 to 2015. Her multifaceted career in real estate, combined with her charisma on-screen, further established her as a prominent figure in both business and pop culture.
After graduating from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Ivanka joined the Trump Organization, where she demonstrated impressive leadership skills. Ascending to the position of Executive Vice President, she played a crucial role in high-profile projects, including the development of the Trump Hotel Collection. Her dual role as a co-judge on NBC's Celebrity Apprentice from 2006 to 2015 further solidified her media presence while presenting her as a savvy businesswoman capable of grand-scale decision-making.
Ivanka’s political involvement has been marked by a complex relationship with both the Republican and Democratic parties. Early in her career, she supported Hillary Clinton's presidential run and endorsed Mitt Romney in 2012, showcasing her willingness to cross party lines. However, during the 2016 election cycle, she became one of her father's foremost advocates, playing a critical role in his campaign. Still, her support was not without controversy, especially when she publicly defended her father’s divisive remarks and policies. Despite facing backlash, including a boycott of her fashion line due to her father’s conduct, Ivanka remained a significant figure in her father's political landscape.

Meta, like many of its tech peers, began downsizing in 2022 and has continued to trim around the edges. The company cut 21,000 jobs, or nearly a quarter of its workforce, in 2022 and 2023. Among those who lost their jobs were members of the civic integrity group, which was known to be outspoken in its criticism of Zuckerberg's leadership.
Some big changes are now taking place that appear to directly follow the lead of Trump at the expense of company employees and users of the platforms, the people familiar with the matter said.
The adoption of the gladius in the Republican period is not well documented. We have the story from Livy of Titus Manlius who accepted the challenge to fight a Gaul. He fastened on his armor and picked up a shield and “Spanish” sword which was better adapted for close fighting than the Roman sword. As the combatants approached, the Gaul raised his shield to block any slashes from the Roman and swung his own sword at Manlius. Avoiding the blow, Titus leaned into the Gaul, stabbed him twice in the abdomen, and killed him. When did the Romans adopt this Spanish sword? We don’t know.
Many app developers, including Spotify and Epic Games, have battled Apple either in public or in court over the company's app store rules and control over its ecosystem. Zuckerberg has been one of the loudest critics of Apple in the past, but he has become even more antagonistic toward the company in recent public interviews. Sources told CNBC that it's all part of an effort to shift antitrust scrutiny off Meta and onto Apple.
In a January interview with podcast host Joe Rogan, Zuckerberg claimed that Apple is becoming less innovative and that it's putting resources toward preventing third parties from creating hardware peripherals that integrate smoothly into Apple's mobile operating system.
The purpose of the pommel is to balance the weapon.
The Roman gladii extant have lengths between 14.3 and 23.2 inches. The example shown above represents the Pompeii type which replaced the older Mainz type in the middle of the first century A.D. By contrast, Celtic swords were typically 21 to 33 inches long.
Legionnaires carried the gladius in a scabbard on their right side and they carried a dagger (pugio) in their left side. Some have argued that drawing the sword with the right hand would be too cumbersome while holding the shield in the left hand, but tests have proven that a right side gladius is quite accessible with the right hand. Centurions wore the gladius on the left because they did not carry a dagger.
The spatha eventually replaced the gladius around the year 200 A.D.
The fourth factor in battle is the role played by auxiliary services. The Roman alternative to the deep hoplite formation was to advance in the familiar lines we’ve read about. The propose of this structure was to make reinforcements available to relieve the tired troops on the front line. This has been clearly stated by Livy and others. We’ve all seen the checkerboard manipular formation with gaps a maniple wide in between the units to be filled where necessary, but it’s never been clear from the history how the Romans were able to maneuver fresh troops into position during battle. Gaps are required for positioning and the fresh troops have to get into position to replace the tired ones. Let me suggest how this could have been done.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, right, and Joel Kaplan, the company's vice president of global public policy, leave the Elysee Palace in Paris after a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, May 23, 2018.
Creating space by forcing a bulge in the enemy line allows fresh troops to slide in front of those pulling back.
Taking all the above factors into consideration, one can see why the Roman army was superior for so long: professional well-trained soldiers, disciplined, with the mobility to bring fresh troops to the line of battle. A formula for success.
In the first quarter, Airbnb expects to report revenue between $2.23 billion and $2.27 billion. Analysts were expecting $2.3 billion for the period, according to LSEG. Airbnb said its first quarter of 2024 benefited from both Easter and an extra day in February.
Airbnb also said adjusted profit for the fourth quarter was $765 million, up 4% year over year. Analysts were expecting $653.5 million, according to StreetAccount.
The company said it has more than five million hosts and eight million active listings around the world. Average daily rates increased 1% from a year ago to $158 in the fourth quarter, the company said.
Airbnb shares were up about 7% for the year before Thursday's report, topping the Nasdaq, which has gained more than 3%.
The company will hold its quarterly call with investors at 4:30 p.m. ET.
Arm's chip will be a central processor for servers, according to the report, not the kind of graphics processor typically used for the heaviest AI workloads.
Nvidia tried to purchase Arm in 2020 from Softbank for $40 billion before the deal was blocked by regulators over Arm's key role in the chip market. Arm went public in 2023 and now has a market cap above $173 billion.
Arm shares have risen nearly 29% so far in 2025 as it is seen as a core enabler of AI systems. Company leadership has told investors that it is looking to sell more advanced technology to its existing customers to grow revenue.
“Having explained the general disposition of the lines, we now come to the distances and dimensions. One thousand paces contain a single rank of one thousand six hundred and fifty-six foot soldiers, each man being allowed three feet. Six ranks drawn up on the same extent of ground will require nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-six men. To form only three ranks of the same number will take up two thousand paces, but it is much better to increase the number of ranks than to make your front too extensive. We have before observed the distance between each rank should be six feet, one foot of which is taken up by the men. Thus if you form a body of ten thousand men into six ranks they will occupy thirty-six feet. in depth and a thousand paces in front.”
OpenAI was initially founded as a non-profit in 2015, and later converted to a "capped profit" model in 2019.
Elon Musk will withdraw his $97.4 billion bid for OpenAI's non-profit arm if the ChatGPT maker stops its conversion into a for-profit entity, according to a court filing.
"If OpenAI, Inc.'s Board is prepared to preserve the charity's mission and stipulate to take the 'for sale' sign off its assets by halting its conversion, Musk will withdraw the bid," read the filing, which was submitted Wednesday to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
"Otherwise, the charity must be compensated by what an arms-length buyer will pay for its assets," it added.
On Monday, Musk, along with his artificial intelligence company xAI and a consortium of investors, launched a bid to acquire OpenAI's non-profit arm for $97.4 billion, accusing the firm and its CEO Sam Altman of abandoning its original mission to develop AI for good and of pursuing profits instead.
Altman has rebuffed the offer, telling CNBC that the move is just an effort by Musk to "slow down a competitor."
Alibaba Group Chairman Joe Tsai confirmed the company is partnering with Apple to help it roll out AI for iPhones sold in China.
Alibaba Group Chairman Joe Tsai confirmed on Thursday that the company was partnering with Apple to roll out AI for iPhones sold in China. He was speaking at the World Governments Summit in Dubai.
"[Apple] talked to a number of companies in China, and in the end, they chose to do business with us. They want to use our AI to power their phones," Tsai said.
The partnership was first reported by tech-focused news organization The Information on Tuesday, triggering a jump in Alibaba and Apple shares.
Hong Kong-listed shares of Alibaba surged on Thursday to hit their highest level since 2022 during the intraday session before paring the gains, last up 2.5%.
The announcement could provide clarity on Apple's AI strategy in China, helping it better tackle growing competition as the iPhone's market share erodes in the world's largest smartphone market.
AI-generated voices can now precisely mimic human speech, raising concerns about distinguishing them from human conversations. A proposed solution is for AI voices to utilize a ring modulator, giving them a historically recognizable robotic sound. Implementing this across voice synthesis technologies would help users identify when they are interacting with AI.
Sam Altman published OpenAI's GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 roadmap on X on Wednesday. Altman acknowledges that OpenAI's product lineup has gotten complicated and that the company wants to simplify its offerings. GPT-4.5, which was internally called Orion, will be OpenAI's last non-chain-of-thought model. GPT-5 will integrate a lot of OpenAI's technology, including o3. Free ChatGPT users will get unlimited GPT-5 chat access at the standard intelligence setting - Plus and Pro subscribers will have access to higher levels of intelligence. It is unknown when the models will be released.
The December quarter is a key period for Sony, covering the holiday shopping season which is often a lucrative time for consumer electronics firms.
Sony on Thursday raised revenue and profit forecasts for the full year after reporting a significant jump in gaming sales for the fiscal third quarter.
Here's how Sony did in the December quarter compared with analyst estimates compiled by LSEG:
Revenue: 4.41 trillion Japanese yen ($28.6 billion), versus 3.77 trillion yen expected. That was up 18% year-over-year and beat analyst expectations.
Operating income: 469.3 billion yen, versus 404.21 billion yen expected. That's up 1% year-on year and also topped analyst estimates.
Sony said it now expects sales for its fiscal full-year 2024 to hit 13.2 trillion yen, up 4% from its November forecast. The Japanese technology giant also raised its outlook for annual operating profit by 2% to 1.34 trillion yen.
The company noted that sales in its game and network services division totaled 237.9 billion yen in the fiscal third quarter, growing 16% year-over-year. This was bolstered by an increase in sales of both console and non-first-party game titles including add-on content.
Apple is reportedly exploring both humanoid and non-humanoid robotic form factors. The company is still in an early proof-of-concept stage. 2028 would be an optimistic timeline for mass production. The robot would be part of a future smart home ecosystem.
Micro LED, one of the most anticipated display technologies, is still years away from being suitable for the mass production of consumer products. The industry is struggling to manage obstacles Luke manufacturing costs and competition from other advanced display technologies. It will probably still be another five years before consumer products are available.
It comes as the company leans more heavily into AI and as it faces pressure from lawmakers.
Google will start using artificial intelligence to determine whether users are age appropriate for its products, the company said Wednesday.
Google announced the new technique for determining users' ages as part of a blog focused on "New digital protections for kids, teens and parents." The automation will be used across Google products, including YouTube, a spokesperson confirmed. Google has billions of users across its properties and users designated as under the age of 18 have restrictions to some Google services.
"This year we'll begin testing a machine learning-based age estimation model in the U.S.," wrote Jenn Fitzpatrick, SVP of Google's "Core" Technology team, in the blog post. The Core unit is responsible for building the technical foundation behind the company's flagship products and for protecting users' online safety.
"This model helps us estimate whether a user is over or under 18 so that we can apply protections to help provide more age-appropriate experiences," Fitzpatrick wrote.

Uber Eats customers in Jersey City can now have their orders delivered by one of Avride’s autonomous sidewalk delivery robots.
The launch, which kicked off this week in New Jersey, is Uber’s latest foray into autonomous vehicles and represents an expanding relationship with Avride. The ride-hail and delivery giant deploys AVs on its app in 11 cities with six partners, including Cartken, Coco, Nuro, and Serve Robotics; it’s also gearing up to introduce Waymo’s robotaxis to its app in Austin and Atlanta in early 2025.
Uber initially announced its partnership with Avride to bring both the company’s delivery bots and its autonomous vehicles to the Uber platform in October 2024. Since then the two have launched robotic deliveries in Austin and Dallas.
They also plan to launch Avride’s self-driving cars in Dallas this year, which would be Avride’s first robotaxi deployment in the U.S. Avride is a spinout from Yandex, the Russian technology company that devolved its businesses last year as a result of Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The startup also recently announced a tie-up with Grubhub to bring bots to university campuses across the U.S., starting with 100 robots at Ohio State University.
A lawyer for Elon Musk said the billionaire will withdraw his bid for OpenAI's nonprofit if OpenAI's board of directors agree to terms.
In a court filing on Wednesday, a lawyer for Elon Musk said the billionaire will withdraw his $97.4 billion bid for OpenAI’s nonprofit if the ChatGPT maker’s board of directors “preserve the charity’s mission” and halt the company’s conversion to a for-profit.
The filing, submitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, claims that Musk’s offer to buy OpenAI’s nonprofit is “serious,” and that the nonprofit “must be compensated by what an arms-length buyer will pay for its assets.”
“Should […] the charity’s assets proceed to sale, a Musk-led consortium has submitted a serious offer […] that would go to the charity in furtherance of its mission,” the filing reads. “[However, if] OpenAI, Inc.’s Board is prepared to preserve the charity’s mission and stipulate to take the ‘for sale’ sign off its assets by halting its conversion, Musk will withdraw the bid.”
Docker has announced a new CEO, appointing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure executive vice president Don Johnson to the hotseat immediately.
Developer tooling and containerization company Docker has a new CEO: Former Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) executive vice president Don Johnson (pictured above) landed in the hotseat starting Wednesday. Incumbent Scott Johnston will leave the company with immediate effect.
During his eight-year spell at Oracle, Johnson was instrumental in transitioning the company from its legacy on-premise roots to the cloud, setting up the OCI unit, and spearheading the company’s resurgence these past few years.
Prior to Oracle, Johnson worked as an engineer at AWS since the inception of Amazon’s cloud division.
Docker is seeking such credentials as it looks to expand into areas across the whole “development life cycle,” including cloud-based services.

I was on the Crypto & Cola show yesterday, here is the recording
It was ~ the last 30 minutes where we talked specifically about the INLEO proposal
The discussions during your talk and after were much better than I expected.
What was said afterwards? I had to run to another meeting
Okay nice, that is all good feedback
Thanks for sharing it with me
You are welcome! I think the call was net positive for the image of InLeo

I think one disturbing thing I experienced about accidentally waking up at 4:30 am today so me realizing some people wake up this early to exercise or make it to work on time
I'm up before 5am to make it to my workout session at 5am. Been doing for a long time. At least most of the week. During the weekends we get to sleep a bit and go to later sessions.
woah, every single weekday 🥺👀
One day rest day from working out and then one day in the weekend we do a walking activity so we go to Orangetheory Fitness usually everyday except Wednesdays and then depending if it's running season we will only go to an Orangetheory Fitness studio on Saturdays. When we travel we try our best to be in walking or driving distance to an Orangetheory.
That's when people sleep..
when exactly were you sleeping because I doubt I'll be able to commit to that time. Even 5:30 is still early and I only do that on Sundays to make it to morning meetings

Been experimenting with MIDI loops finally.
I don’t know why I always resisted it, I wanted my music to be a certain way, but now I’m having fun just exploring sounds and what I can make so it’s fun.
Keep having fun till you come up with something very cool
I keep coming up with cool things but just tiny short 10-20 seconds. I’ll try to put together something longer soon!
Second EP this summer!
first time I've heard of MIDI loops, going to research it. Having fun with your work, that's the best feeling in life
Garage band is probably the most popular app for this kind of thing. MIDI is the file type where sound can be recognized between instrument and different devices
And I keep on buying and stacking $LEO, it could make me very rich, who knows...

Gibbon tells us of the man:

By 268 A.D. a Gothic War was underway.

Throughout her career, Dion has released multiple best-selling albums, with notable works such as "Falling Into You" and “Let’s Talk About Love,” both of which contributed significantly to her wealth.

Here is how Gibbon describes him:

Under Bell's leadership, the company spearheaded the proliferation of telephone usage across the United States, revolutionizing how people communicated. The legal and technological victories solidified Bell's legacy as a pioneering force in modern communication.

Many wars were fought and each man was challenged by instability, yet the empire ran smoothly. Maybe it was luck.

Following his time at SNL, Odenkirk's versatility and unique comedic voice allowed him to explore various projects. He became involved with "The Larry Sanders Show" and worked as a writer for the likes of "Get a Life" and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." His talent was again recognized when he joined the writing staff of "The Ben Stiller Show," where he received his second Emmy award in 1993. These experiences provided Odenkirk with a platform to hone his skills in both writing and acting, leading to the creation of “Mr. Show” alongside David Cross in 1995. This HBO sketch comedy series showcased their irreverent style and creativity, paving the way for Odenkirk’s eventual breakout role as Saul Goodman in "Breaking Bad."
Is Bob Odenkirk involved in any film projects?
Apart from television, Bob Odenkirk starred in the action movie "Nobody" in 2021, where he played a vengeful character, showcasing a different side to his acting abilities and achieving commercial success.
Who is Bob Odenkirk's family?
Bob Odenkirk is married to producer Naomi Odenkirk, and they have two children together. He often speaks fondly of his family life and its impact on his work.
Bessie Coleman achieved remarkable success as a pioneering aviator during an era marked by significant barriers for both women and African Americans. After facing rejection from flying schools in the United States, she took the bold step of learning French and moving to France. There, she earned her pilot's license from the prestigious Caudron Brother's School of Aviation in 1921, making her the first Black woman in the world to do so. Her tenacity and dedication to aviation not only paved the way for her own career but also became an inspiration for countless individuals aspiring to break racial and gender barriers in a predominantly male-dominated field.
The brothers also starred in several related projects, including a TV movie, and made guest appearances on other popular Disney shows. This lucrative period earned them a combined income of approximately $40,000 per episode, not to mention lucrative endorsements and product lines in collaboration with other notable youth stars like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. The immensely popular series solidified their status as top child actors in Hollywood.
Following her experiences in the war, Nightingale became a formidable advocate for health reform, leveraging her insights to influence healthcare practices globally. She authored "Notes on Matters Affecting the Health, Efficiency and Hospital Administration of the British Army," which sparked significant reforms in military healthcare provisions. Nightingale's groundbreaking use of statistical data and graphical representation showcased patient mortality rates effectively, leading to the establishment of public health policies that improved conditions not only in military hospitals but also in civilian facilities. Her contributions reshaped the perception of nursing into a noble vocation, opening doors for women in the field and laying the groundwork for modern nursing practices.

Apple brings its TV streaming service to rival Android platform
Apple TV+'s Android release on Wednesday is Apple first major subscription service launch for Google's platform in 10 years.
Apple TV+ is now available on Android devices as the iPhone maker on Wednesday released its video streaming service for Google's mobile computing platform.
It's unusual for Apple to release Android apps. The company typically focuses on software for its own iOS and MacOS platforms, but Wednesday's release is the latest sign that Apple won't be limiting the growth potential of its Services division by keeping popular services like Apple TV+ exclusive to its own devices.
#apple #tv #android #Mobile #television #entertainment
More people have iPhones than Android phones in the U.S., but globally, Android claims a 72% market share, according to Statcounter. Releasing Android apps significantly expands Apple's market.
Apple's Services business is its second largest behind iPhone sales, and Services hit a $100 billion per year revenue rate last year. In addition to subscriptions like iCloud, the unit also includes sales from advertising, search deals with Google, AppleCare warranties and payment fees from Apple Pay.
Cisco pops on increased full-year revenue forecast
Cisco topped analysts' estimates and lifted its full-year guidance due in part to orders for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Cisco shares climbed about 6% in extended trading on Wednesday after the networking hardware maker reported fiscal second-quarter results and guidance that topped Wall Street's expectations.
Here's how the company did against LSEG consensus:
Earnings per share: 94 cents adjusted vs. 91 cents expected
Revenue: $13.99 billion vs. $13.87 billion expected
#cisco #revenue #ai #infrastructure
Reddit shares plunge after Google algorithm change contributes to miss in user numbers

Paragraph
While domestic rivals such as Huawei have touted AI features on their devices since last year, Apple has been quiet about its 'Apple Intelligence' push in the market, despite plans to launch in the U.S. this fall.

Again we let Jornandes explain:

Distances and Intervals:
Musk will withdraw OpenAI bid if ChatGPT maker stays nonprofit, lawyers say

AIs and Robots Should Sound Robotic
AI-generated voices can now precisely mimic human speech, raising concerns about distinguishing them from human conversations. A proposed solution is for AI voices to utilize a ring modulator, giving them a historically recognizable robotic sound. Implementing this across voice synthesis technologies would help users identify when they are interacting with AI.

Google to test using AI to determine users’ ages
