NPR - Is Web3 internet jargon or a vision for the future
NPR's value proposition:"for instance, every time you post a message, you earn a token for your contribution, giving you both ownership stake in the platform and one day a way to cash in."
That's a platform/token that will have little to no value.
It's funny to see that NPR is just as ignorant as other Web2 outlets to the whole idea of proof of brain + time & attention. But again, this is the participation trophy outlet.
Staying on topic: "Decentralized social networks have proved appealing to white supremacists and other far-right groups"
Is web3 just hype: "if part of the impetus is to resist giving up personal data to Big Tech companies, then the blockchain is not the solution, since that will make even more data public."
Oooh Mic Drop!! ....
Except that these big data companies have no where to advertise their poisonous products on our front-ends.
"It doesn't make any sense," he said. "The vision says the problem with the internet is too many centralized intermediaries. Instead of having lots of different applications and sites, we'll put it all on blockchains, which puts it all in one place."
#layer-2
But many people who found wealth during the pandemic by investing in cryptocurrencies are looking around for something to plunge cash into beyond NFTs of "bored apes" who are members of a cartoon "yacht club."
"There are a lot of people who have money to invest," he said. "And they need some vision to throw money at."
Whatever You Do! DO NOT Look At or Talk About HIVE, or Mention Proof-of-Brain!!
What did you expect from the mainstream establishment? They don't want change and I doubt they would look more into new technology until it becomes mainstream. Of course they wouldn't understand it.

Yupp bunch of bumbling idiots
That's only because they were chased out of where they wanted to be.
They were happy to be on Facebook and MySpace before that (not to mention Twitter/Dipbird), but they were chased out. Not only were they chased out, they weren't allowed to be on alternative platforms of the same caliber as Facebook or Twitter/Dipbird. So they had to wander the online wilderness for a while before squatting in some online ghetto. Not just white supremacists but also "white supremacists."
Today it's what the Establishment calls "white supremacists." Tomorrow it can be defenders of Due Process. The day after that it can be users of Telegram or Signal. Some time later.... it can be you or me; by that time, it may be too late for us. It begins with Undesirables, then it creeps to Freaks, then it ends up at Normies.
Decentralized networks are for everyone, and anyone can claim a corner of a decentralized network for himself/herself. Even Establishment-types can find a place on some decentralized network or other; they just need to leave the rest of us alone.

Its hard to see what you did there by saying not just white suprems but "white suprems" haha but I got it! Yea dude... but even then.. I do not see those people on hive, lol.. at least not in any significant amount like I still see on facebook.
I know all about what you are talking about/getting at tho.. its incrementalism/divide and conquer. I did an audio version of my friends article "Chilling Dissent: How the Government Demonized Americans"
Ive been at this waking up with masses, before I ever heard anyone say the word Woke.
When I was in grade school, white supremacists were people who not only espoused a certain ideology but also went out of their way to make the lives of "the others" a living hell. Based on how the term has been used in recent years-- especially in phrases such as "the black face of white supremacy"-- it's come to mean (simply) anyone who disagrees with the Establishment. That's why I put the term in quotes.
As for the incrementalism you noted, I was refering to the classic account from World War II about how no one was left to defend the main character of the account (someone who was Jewish). It was something like "When they came for the Gypsies, I did nothing because I'm not a Gypsy" repeated several times with different peoples.
(This looks like a topic better suited for Proof of Brain than LeoFinance, so I'll go down that rabbit hole for a while to post something on this topic there later. I need the tokens.)
Just a reminder: National Public Radio (NPR) is literally state-run media in the United States. For what we care about, NPR promotes FUD.

I know who you are talking about, and I've heard that quote many times.. I am coming from the American dissident category and have been this way for more than 10 years now, thanks to youtube.. it radicalizes us in the best way : )
These people currently have and will always have a one-track mind. They can't see outside their narrow assessment of the world. Anyone who doesn't see things their way they just can't understand. They have no ability to put themselves into other peoples' shoes and try to come to an understanding of why those people look at the world the way they do. They just think everyone should see it their way.
It's pointless to argue with them because they have no ability to see logic. Sad, but true.
