This is not a whine - it's an observation....decentralization? ...A car crash...?

I had a chat notification !
I know, weird right?
Someone wants to converse...

ghghg.JPG

I tried to open my notification.
Nothing.
Nada.
Zip.

No matter how may times I click on it, it doesn't open.

It's not the first time this has happened - it's closer to the 20th time.

Every day, from one hour to the next, this changes. Sometimes I can open it up without a problem then - pow! - nothing, nada .zip.

It's very frustrating when you're in the middle of a conversation.

My point is not the inability to open the chat window when I want, my point is - do you honestly think that Hive is a good product?
(I'm talking in terms of on boarding and retention).

The platform - and it's subsidiaries is 'clunky'. As opposed to smooth.
I'm no techy, and this might be a characteristic of block chain technology (a very weak characteristic, if it is).
I'm not a techy, and just want my platform to work, very boringly. So boringly predictable in fact, that I forget all about it.

I don't want to click on tab, and have to think 'will it load this time'...
I think this almost every time, as I click on tabs, or deposit jpeg or gifs onto my post...

It's 'clunky'.

This isn't a whine - it's an observation from a non techy.

99% of web use is from the 'non techy' perspective.

Steem/hive has been trundling along for four years now.
And I still wait with trepidation (ok that's a little hyperbolic) to see if the platform is running properly each day.

It's not the kind of experience that inspires much confidence, now is it?

'If you do 'A', then 'B' it should be working...'...yeah that doesn't cut it.

Most users are not interested in jumpin' though hoops - they just want it to work.
I'm not a techy - but four years of development seems ample time (from my perspective), to have everything running smoothly and quickly. Day in and day out....boringly predictable.

I'm not a techy - I want no excuses , or reasons (there are always reasons).
I want a boringly predictable product that 'does what it says on the tin'.

I would hate to be in a position where I would have to sell this product.(in terms of social media).

"....yeah it's a very good runner- most of the time, and the indicators work, if it's Tuesday and you're going downhill, that is.
Four wheels? Nah wheels three are good enough..".

THERE'S NO NEED TO TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
I DON'T CARE ANYMORE
.

Hive chat is really not part of Hive, just another app that is in development.

That is not easy to see or find, and here is the link to the project:

A post or a message directed to them to let them know what you like, don't like, what is working or not working, might help them to bring a product that would work better for people. Unfortunately they are both very busy and the chat seemed to be somewhat rushed out.

I never had/have these problems with twatter or gab.

As purely a user - and not getting an erection from tech - I'm not interested in their problems.

'Buy this car!....yeah we know it doesn't have any brakes at the moment, but we're working on that".
Maybe it's better not to launch the car on the market until it 'just works'?

How many hardforks have we had (inclduing steem)?
How many have ran smoothly?
See what I mean?
"I don't want reasons for it not happening, I want results to show that it's happened".
I SPEAK FOR THE SILENT MAJORITY. (AROUND 99% OF THE INTERNET USERS).

I think techy nerds have completely misunderstood the meaning of 'the meek shall inherit the earth'

You would think after all this time, something as simple as a chat system for a block chain would not be hard to do since it is by it's nature only text which block chains are suppose to be designed for - text - . Parachat was a simple free chat room system, the free room would allow 15 people to chat you could pay and have a lot more people in a room. They could set their font their color their and the background color, there was an ignore user function and the admin of the room had access to logs if they had a paid for room. That was 15 years or more ago.

ICQ was a very simple instant messenger, people keep wanting a simple direct message system that is for Hive, and not have to go into discord to leave someone a short message. Once again a 15 year old program that worked.

The problem is they are old programs, not even sure if they are in use still or not, but being old people think that the tech has moved beyond what the old programs had, not always true.

A lot of the developers ask what people want, and then they come up with a thousand reasons why it wont work or can not be done, such as the number of page views of a post. Apple, Google, Bing, Youtube, facebook, all have page view data available, all have been able to make it work, yet back in Steem Days, page views were removed, they didn't work, that is what the Steemit team told everyone, that is what the Hive Developers say when people ask about page views, they wont work.

I think a lot of the Dev's on Hive suffer from slight myopia.

I have been using Hive chat since the start as you know - I only talk to five people - the other four have never had a problem.

Gab I like, and use most days, but holy crap I've had a lot of problems with it - in the early days and when it got taken out, it was hard to imagine it ever working - that is why i hedged my bets with flote

They just buggered up yet another thing two days ago and pissed everyone off

and its totally overloaded and barely runs since trump was booted off twatter

Stop bullshitting - you don't even know five people and have to talk to imaginary friends

The site is running a bit shit today - but not chat - that is running perfectly - voting - fuck that for a joke!

and check my latest post out - I'm having a thought...

actually I'm going to do you as first test case!

I haven't been able to open Chat with the provided button since it appeared, but that's not a big problem for me as I'm not an avid chatroom fan. Yet, I might become one when the thing finally works😎

I've not tried it from hive.blog, just Peakd and not with different browsers either.

...are you on gab?

No, but might check it out soon.

Why can't things just work is it that hard?

When you can't take your eyes of the moon, you tend to forget - or willfully ignore - the fact that you're standing on very thin ice...

Good techies need to be good dreamers (in that department).

Good builders need to be good pragmatists.

When techies are in charge, building is too boring to be bothered to focus on.
Decentralization accentuates this problem - it doesn't address it.

Happened to me, too. Hopefully it is corrected soon as I was trying to commission some video editing work.

'Hopefully'. Hopium.
I hate hopium, it's drug for the delusional to indulge in.

i am also not a techy but i do understand that this decentralization is not easy.

when i try to imagine that posting on FB will post on twitter, instagram, reddit... and also add chat that is connected to all of them and also viber, whatsup and signal i see how that is not easy. especially when everyone of them are making their own platform.

I've seen much worse on Facebook.

Yeah I don't know what happened but the wheels are slow to turn, maybe at this point they are just running on the drums. I can actually go view my comment under comments before it appears on the post of which I left it. Upvote someone and you can watch the circle go around until your hypnotized by it. It's like things have gone backwards into slow motion.
