RE: Weekend-engagement topic week 50: The natural world

Damn oh dear. I have a picture I really like that really doesn't fit into any good mold, and then I went right to it to put it here.

Then I got to looking at some other photos and thought I really needed to put a picture of the Gunnison River at the bottom of the Black Canyon. I had the image copied when I saw this.

Badlands National Park, South Dakota. I was there on a day when some wild sunflowers were blooming and took some pictures of some, but this one was sort of an accident. I was actually photographing the breaks that are behind the flower.

Sunflower sure planted itself into a most unusual spot it steals the limelight!

Nice hiking region with stunning view @bigtom13

There are little gems like this all over the NP. You can see the edge of the grassy plains that surround the 'badlands'. This is on the eastern edge of the park. Another happy accident photograph for me...

From unusual grass plains to fascinating geographical zebra lines in rocks absolutely stunning!

I did go see more, so much in this region, fossil walk must be interesting, bison, big horn sheep, few rattlers and coyote 😁 bliss!

All that rock and then a flower popping up out of nowhere seemingly defying he odds. Pretty cool!

Shout out to Galen for the topic this weekend Cuz that photo is special. Very nice Tom. Happy Friday! Got anything goin on this weekend? We've been in so many surrounding states lately a 3 hour drive to Nashville and back today's a cinch.

Is it too warm to ride yet? Shit!! Scratch that. Sounds like something a Californian would say. 👍🏿

I"m seriously considering a run to the White Mountains in the near future. Makes it about 6 hours in and out in the real heat, but it's not really hot yet. So, no. Not too hot to ride yet :)

Nice thing about that ride is lots of really great roads above 8000 feet of elevation so wonderful cool.

Sounds like it.

You have a wonderful photo. While wandering in the comments, I came to a screeching halt with your photo. It immediately caught my eye. The sunflower looks beautiful.

That is a great picture, I love the complete contrast in it. The only real color the flower. Next time monochromes or someone else has a color splash contest you should enter this, make it black and white, crop all the sky out and leave the flower color intact, that I think would be a real winner.

Thanks. I really love the photo, for more than the flower. You can see the edge of the grass and how the badlands begin, too. It's an amazing place.

What an awesome shot. It has an awesome message. You can bloom or shine wherever you are.

When I saw the image I thought the flower was like a montage 😅, because it didn't seem to fit in that place. Then I looked at it closely and I found it magical that in that land that seems very arid such a beautiful flower grows (which by the way is one of my favorites) 😍.

Very nice your photo 🤗

Thank you! The sunflowers are relatively common in the northern plains, where ever there is a little place that will hold the winter moisture a bit longer in the spring...

I really liked seeing that flower there 🤗

And what a happy accident it was. The contrast of the flower's color and the badlands is amazing. One day I have to make it out west and check it out.

The Badlands NP is just one of my favorite places. It's way more than just the tortured canyons, it's a humongous place and has huge grassland plains and a big herd of Buffalo. It's home to the first reintroduction site for the Black Footed Ferret (successful reintroduction I might add) and, amazingly, one of the best fossil exhibits and walks I've ever seen.

And wild sheep. I seem to see them every time I go through.

That really sounds amazing. One day, when we can travel again and I can make the time, I want to visit this. Thank you for the info!

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

I think this is my favorite picture of them all... There is the harsh surrounding and rocky steep then there is a sunny beautiful but lonesome flower that adds the life to the picture.. it's perfect.. I love this one

Look how strong the 🌻 is! Same as the the name, it's shining 🌟
