Who's the fairest of them all?

Would I seek or have I sought to get ahead to the detriment of someone else? Why of course not! That would make me a thoroughly despicable person and anyone who knows me, if I paid them enough, would testify that I’m an all-round good egg,

Besides, I was once the victim of such a person when beaten in an egg and spoon race by a devious little madam who had glued her egg to the spoon. I didn’t grass her up; I loathe drama and I already had too much of it in my life.

Maybe that’s why I’ve never fancied getting involved in amateur dramatics, though my punk band Of Xerox did perform once at the end-of-term school concert. I don’t think the nuns were too impressed when we played our version of The Death March while the singer wailed…

The sharpest blade
the hangman’s noose
the tablet vial
the lid is loose
the last drawn breath
the waiting peace
a trail of blood
from life release.

I wrote all the songs You can tell I had quite a sense of humour. But then, I’ve rarely met anyone who didn’t think they had a sense of humour and I’ve met many a dreary bugger. I suppose it’s a subjective thing. Some think I’m a laugh-a-minute, while others think I’m an eejit.

I'm the beautiful one. Playing charades in case you're wondering.

I’m sure you will all agree that I was quite pretty, in a witchy sort of way, even if I wasn’t aware of it back then. I had many suitors but I thought it was my sparkling wit and repartee they were after.

So given a choice between good looks and good humour which would I choose? Reluctantly, it’d have to be the latter. My looks are long gone, but my sharp wit remains, or so my many fans tell me. Plus, I’d never have made it this far without succumbing to madness, had I not been able to laugh at myself.

Posted in response to galenkp's weekend experience prompt asking-
Have you or would you seek to get ahead to the detriment of someone else?
Have you ever acted in a play or musical and
Would you rather have a good sense of humour or be pretty

Whilst I don't have a pic of you now to compare, I bet you still have a sparkle. Perhaps everyone has got it wrong. Maybe we ARE more beautiful as we age. Goodness. We are here! Our meat sacks have survived - the male gaze, the jealous girls, the comments about what we wore or didn't, the size of our tits, our ass, our nose. How beautiful we surely are. Affirmations must be affirmed.

I have to admit to being slightly tarnished with a touch of rust, but the old bones still function and in a total blackout I might just manage a little sparkle.:)

Oh nothing like the cover of darkness... candelight is also okay at a pinch.

Lmao you played this with the nuns? Must have been fun like hell to see their faces

Maybe they were impressed we could actually play Chopin!
They couldn't expel us as it was the last day of the last term of the last year in school.

Haha perfect timing for that, they must have been pissed off

You were and still are just too cool.
I wanted to start a band in secondary school, we were going to be called "Purple Insomnia", but it never happened, only in my head lol xxx

It's the Irish in me. We Irish are born cool...and musical.

I can understand your choice. My good luck I haven't seen in over 50 years. And I have more bad hair days than good. They decided to take up residence elsewhere. I guess to be more appreciated. Like you said...less drama then and now. Whew...life is good. More peaceful.

Thanks for sharing. Take care.

Hahaha, Same here. At least still have our wit!

It's the least we can be left with to accompany us into our golden years (or is it twilight?). Take care.

Definitely golden!

How did I miss this post (haha)

I’m sure you will all agree that I was quite pretty, in a witchy sort of way

Haha, I agree! I love the hair and look at those people around you, admiring you.

Good choice - Good looks fade, but good humour is timeless. A sharp wit can carry you through anything. It's just like a superpower! 💖😀

'Those people' aren't admiring me, they're my office staff and they're studying me trying to work out how to get a pay rise:)

haha - beauty does not truly fade but matures like fine wine. A punk band - you have done a lot!

Come and tell me that when you're 60 and you look in the mirror and see your granny staring back at you🙃

Haha ok I will. However, I believe what I wrote. I have seen my mom aging and despite the wrinkles etc. she is still beautiful but in a different way. She aged gracefully and still looks elegant as she’s embraced the changes (as she has no choice😀).
