Wow! I'm super impressed with your timeline... that's amazing!
Yes, I've moved long distance. In 2006, I uprooted after 25 years in Central Texas and moved to a small seaside town in Northwest Washington state. Much more leisurely move, though... in some ways.
ABF Freight dumped one of their "U-Pack" 20-foot shipping containers in our driveway in Texas; we took two weeks to pack all our stuff into it. Then a truck came and hauled the trailer to their Tacoma depot where it was "warehoused" for (up to) 60 days while we looked around in a pretty leisurely fashion. We arrived here on September 24th; found our house and were ready to move in November 8th... called ABF and they hauled our trailer out and parked it in our new driveway where we had a week to empty it. It was a lot of work, but pretty low stress, all in all... and about $6,000 cheaper than using movers.
Nice. We considered that route at first, especially since we ended up packing 80% of the items ourselves. We did have quite a few pieces of furniture, piano, and Custom Embroidery machine (which had to be crated) so we ended up need movers for the heavy lifting and special handling of those items anyway. Ended up not being much cost difference for us. I would have liked the more leisurely method, but both of us are a little compulsive about wanting to get the move-in and setup part over with and get settled. Just a portion of the garage and basement left, and it's only Wednesday (4 days in)!
