WELCOME TO NIGERIA

in Weekend Experiences3 years ago (edited)

One of the requirements of this post says "THINK ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY..." Truth Is I hate thinking about my country, because any time I think about this country I end up becoming sad.

Should I think about the blood of the innocent shed on daily basis

Should I think about the corruption that has eaten deep into every system.

Should I think about the poor education system. Which is now Tagged scam perhaps the saying "School Na Scam"

Should I think about the poor power supply.

Well I don't want anything that will spoil my day, so I won't be thinking about any of those.

Despite the bad things going on in the country, it doesn't stop the fact that mother nature has blessed NIGERIA With So Many Beautiful places. If you plan on visiting Nigeria, here are some places you should add to your tourist attraction. There are so many tourist attractions in Nigeria, but the contest restricts us to just three places.

Fasten your sit belt and let me take you on a Brief trip through Nigeria.

THE ANCIENT NOK SETTLEMENT

Nok settlement is located in Jaba Local government area in the southern part of Kaduna State, northern Nigeria; Nok became the name due to the Nok civilization that used to inhabit the area from around 500 BC. Mysteriously the people of the village vanished in about 200 AD. These people were known for their extremely advanced social system and were the earliest producers of life-sized Terracotta in the Sub-Sahara. This village has been underdeveloped for years even after the discovery of Nok art.

The discovery was made by Bernard Fagg, a British archaeologist employed by the Nigerian government in the 1940s. Fagg lived at the Nok site and the remains of his house serve as a tourist attraction. Nok village also hosts a government established museum where casings containing unique terracotta carvings and antique objects are kept.

OSUN-OSHOGBO GROVE

The Osun-oshogbo grove is a sacred grove. More like A shrine to oshun worshippers. It is among the last of the sacred forests which usually adjoined the edges of most Yoruba cities before extensive urbanization.

This shrine was inscribed as a UNESCO heritage site in 2005. The Shrine is actually some centuries old, one of the old groves that remained.

August of Every year, the Osun-Osgogbo festival is celebrated at the grove. Thousands of Osun worshippers and tourists from around the world always grace the festival.

Historically, an ancestral occurrence led to the celebration of this festival. Once upon a time, a group of migrating people who were led by a great hunter called Olutimehin settled on the bank of Osun river, to save themselves from famine. At the river side, Osun the goddess appeared from the water in front of Olutimehin and requested him to lead people to a special place (present Osogbo town). The goddess promised to protect all the group and bring them prosperity in return for an annual sacrifice to her. The group accepted the proposition. Today the annual sacrifice to the Osun River Goddess is what is still celebrated as the Osun Osogbo Festival.

KAINJI NATIONAL PARK

This is A national park in the northern part of Nigeria, established in the year 1978. The park includes three distinct sectors: a part of the Kainji Lake in which fishing is restricted, the Borgu Game Reserve to the west of the lake, and the Zugurma Game Reserve to the southeast.
If you want to connect to nature and animals, this is definitely the place to visit.
