It's Friday again and we have another edition of Weekend-Engagement initiative by Galenkp. Looks like I'm a regular participant now, which is a good thing in my opinion. There are a few topics to choose from, so let's see what I chose this week.
Where you live: Would you rather...
If you could choose between a small shack on and idyllic beach or a cabin in the woods which would you choose and why? Explain your choice and tell us about your ideal place in a post of at least 300 words. source
For me, this is a no brainer, I would choose in a split second and would choose a cabin in the woods. Living in the mountains for me seems more healthier than living on a beach or near the beach. It's been my dream to live in the Alps for some time and I'm working on making it happen.
I grew up going to the mountains each summer, going camping as well. Was taught to appreciate and protect nature. At a young age I didn't quite understand why adults say mountains are so beautiful. For me, mountains were just a bunch of stones, but that perception and view has changed over the years.
My country has pretty much everything you need, mountains, plains, lakes and beaches, so there's a place for every taste, you just have to make the trip. However, I would prefer the Alps.
Imagine living in a wooden house and waking up to a view like that every single morning. Drinking your morning poison (tea in my case), on the veranda, while enjoying this gorgeous view. I had the pleasure to do that in 2016, when I took this photo at Red Lake, and this was just one occasion.
Imagine breathing this fresh air every single day, instead of the polluted air we have to put up with every single day in the city.
If you're lucky, you may get a rainbow too, from time to time.
One of the things I would like to do is foraging. Collecting your herbs from the wood, drying and using them for cooking and tea is priceless. I stopped doing that because no matter whaty you find at the outskirts of the city, I'm not going to risk my health. Up in the mountains however you can find uncontaminated plants. Berries are also available, which would be perfect for making jams. I would learn about mushrooms and collect those that are edible.
Training in the mountains is something I also want to mention. Trail running and mountain biking are just two of what you can do. Running alongside the road in the city may seem like a good training, but inhaling all the pollution coming your way is something you should avoid.
The Alps means France, Switzerland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia and 1200km of mountains. Of these countries I would most likely choose France, Switzerland or Italy, for the spoken languages, but cost of living would have a say in this decision as well.
There are a lot of sporting events organized in the Alps all year round, one better than the other, from World Championships, Olympics to simple ones. Would be nice to participate in a few. There are a lot of festivals organized during summer, like the Arlberg Classic Car Rally, the Montreux Jazz festival, Tour de France obviously, the Spartan race in Morzine and so on. And where there's a festival or a race, there's a party too, so life would definitely not be boring.
This is how a traditional Alpine house looks like in Tirol and not only.
But I would be ok with something like in the images above for example 😇. I would want every comfort I have now and the best internet connection at the cheapest price as well. I'm not fussy, you know? 😂
So jokes aside, I'd like to make handmade souvenirs and sell them at the local souvenir shops. Would be a nice hobby and maybe a potential source of income as well, but don't want it to be a job.
This would be my dream, but in the same time, I don't want to be cemented in one place, so I prefer to travel, choose the best weather according to seasons, so traveling to live a month or two at a beach would be nice too.
Let's see how much I can accomplish of this in the upcoming years 😃.

Nice. Good luck reaching this goal, I think I know what you mean and what you are working on ;) In my case, a mountain cabin or a little beach house would be a tough dilemma as I love both. Tried both and loved both. But the sea has literally fascinated me since I was a little kid plus it has this huge benefit of being able to heal my asthma and allergies with its fresh, moist, salty air so the beach location would be my pick here ;) But again, I love mountains too. In fact, there are places in the world where you can have both...
Italy is one of them and would be the most convenient for me as I know the language, love the food, but the bureaucracy and criminality is scary.
I'm sorry to hear about your health issues. In that case beach is most likely the ideal place for you. Then you can visit mountains for a short period :)
Well, I mean particular places where you can really have both, the sea and the mountains. Tenerife for example. I remember swimming in the ocean there and enjoying the sun while watching the snow covered peak of the Mount Teide in the background. I experienced something similar on Azorean Islands too. I think you can also have it on Hawaii. Or some places / islands in Southeast Asia... There really are these magical places that can satisfy both the sea lovers and the mountain lovers at the very same time :) But yeah, Italy is definitely one of the countries that seem like great locations for life.
Nooooooo, wait a minute as we are talking about different type of mountains here 😃
Wen I say mountains I'm not referring to tropical climate, like the places you listed. Mountains for me need to be with pine forest and snow in the winter.
I see. But if the mountains are high enough, you can have it with this ecosystem (coniferous trees and snow) even in the tropics. But yeah, I know what you mean now. The classic Alpine sceneries like those in posts by @delishtreats ;)
Exactly 😀
The scenic, breathtaking views from your vacation in 2016 at Red Lake sum up why you prefer a mountain over beach house. The rainbow photo is my favorite!
I'm onboard with you on this one.
Sign me up to be your neighbor!🙋♀️😉
I'm glad you like it and I'm going to invite you to visit, once I get there 😂
It would indeed be a nice thing to achieve, but that life is for the top 10k people. I would settle for less of course, such luxury is not sustainable, but you can have a cozy life in a traditional Alpine house as well.
I would love a hut in the French Alps 😻 It reads wonderful @erikah I'm a little afraid of the forest myself. I don't know why. I live in a place with lots of mountains too 💟
Some forests can be dangerous but if you don't go alone, it can be a real adventure. Obviously you have to have some basic skills as well, but fear should not stop you :)
Looks like I'm not the only one with this dream then :)
That must be why 🙈 I would love to have an adventure like that then 😃 I confess I love the beach too 🤭
I'm not saying no to beach, but can't live there all year.

It sure would be fun to live in somewhere cosy and has a great view.😊
I just imagine myself having this scene whenever I wake up every morning
Maybe one day, what do you say?

Hermoso post espero logres tus metas y sueños.
Would be great to have both and that is why I said I don't want to be cemented in one place. Spend a few months in the Alps, then govto the beach and enjoy a month or two there. Moving around is the ideal solution.
Thank you for stopping by and have a nice week 😊
Erika, I join this idea of preferring to travel, to enjoy every moment according to the season. Those photos are wonderful, they are postcards.
Although I like both the beach and the mountains, thinking about survival and comfort in the forest, with all that you see in those pictures I'm signing up for a vacation.
And entrepreneurship sounds great, making bracelets, scarves, and other little things, like your paints to have income on the stay, is not a bad idea...it's a very good self-management.
Yes, indeed. If postcards would still be used, a photo like that would be used a lot. But a vacation there would be great too.
Having my souvenir shop would be a good thing. I nean I could set up one as we speak but I don't want to be work. I'd prefer to just create souvenirs and sell them when I want. When you do it to survive, the fun is taken away.
You don't want much huh? 🤣
I'm the cabin in the woods guy and whilst I'd be happy with less modern conveniences that you, I'd have it set up nicely I think. I like the idea of the beach shack, but sand gets everywhere! Lol.
No, I don't want much, you don't need to buy me a castle, I'd be ok with a humble villa as well 😂.
I'd be ok with a cabin in the woods as well but I need a bathroom, electricity and internet as well.
Sand in the pants 👖 huh? 😂 So no sex on the beach? 🤣🙊
Oh, just a humble villa huh? Seems easy enough.
Sand in the pants is nem vicces.
😂😂😂😂😂
I want to live close to nature too .nothing can beat its beauty and benefits..
My point exactly. Glad to hear we're on the same page.
Hi @erikah, a pleasure to meet you in this beautiful community, honestly when I saw this proposal I thought that most people would be inclined for the beach and look I was wrong, like you I love the interaction with the environment and the peace and tranquility that it gives us.
I loved your photos of the alps, they are very beautiful and the cabins are places where you can get used to without any problem and with all the comfort and needs covered.
I hope at some point we can enjoy that vision of living in majestic places of our nature.
Greetings and blessings
Hi and nice to meet you too. Well, we're not all the same, some prefer the beach, while others would rather live in the mountains.
I also hope one day we get to live our dream.
Have a nice week and thank you for stopping by.
Too bad I cannot relate to anything here YET🤦🏿♂️
This poverty thing is bad disease oo😭 where I live there’s neither a single mountain nor a small beach. Only sand and stones, sand. Even rainfall is only one season a full year.
I hope that Insha Allah very soon my story will change and I’ll start chasing my nomadic dreams. Accra today, Zanzibar Tomorrow. God Abeg 🙏🏿😭
I'm sorry to hear about the conditions in your country. I hope one day life can change in your country too.
the alps is a good place to be, do different activities, as you say enjoy the fresh air and relax, it would be a good way to live, good choice, greetings.
The only impediment is the cost of living, which is why the place is so select. Not everyone can afford to live there.
The natural scenery in the area is very beautiful, usually in the open like this will provide air that is quite cool for us to enjoy.
Yes, it is beautiful and the quality of air cannot be compared to what we have in the city. That is proven fact.
That is why, everyone who is looking for fresh air will choose a place like that so that they are more relaxed and free from a burden. @erikah
I agree with you on that.
he he.. thanks for you.
Greetings, I really love this publication, nothing like living away from the polluted air of the city, I struggle with that every day without counting the noise pollution in which I live surrounded, I certainly prefer a place like this.
Thank God I don't have allergies like others, but you're right, the level of pollution we have to face every day, plus the noise.... Living in a place like on my photos is pure medicine.
Just like you, I would prefer living in cabin in the woods as this is the place where I was born and I learned to dwell with the wild heart of nature. Nothing beats the fresh air, the greenery, and all picturesque views in the woods. What a great entry for weekend engagement dear erika. Have a great time and I hope you are well. !LUV

Greetings @erikah. Thanks for your participation in this weekend engagement hub. Yeah! You are on point and I would side with you. The natural breeze from the mountainous side is always healthy for living than sometimes when the human cycles pollute the water body like beach. Looking at the elements; the clouds, vegetation and the relief which could possibly aid rainfall are good signs of nice place to opt for. Thanks and greetings once again!
Well, for me this is the ideal place for many reasons. This is not just a decision of the moment for the challenge. It's been in my mind for some time now and working on making it happen.
I agree with you on the choice of the mountain.
I invite you to discover Asturias in the north of Spain where one can go in 30km from sea level to the mountains of the Picos de Europa.
One day I hope to write about the combination of sea and mountain in this natural paradise.

Till then, I'm looking forward to reading what you write about it 😀.
Having a place to live in the mountains is very pleasant, the air is fresh, the nature is natural and we can also hear the sound of birds chirping every day. I also like traveling to mountainous areas to enjoy the beautiful nature there.
For me, a place like that is priceless. I'm glad you prefer the same thing.
may we always be happy.
