There's video online of her plane possibly taking off from one of her last flights. They posit that an important transmission wire snapped which made it very hard for her to communicate.
There is also the fascinating story of a teen girl Betty Klenck, who said she (and others) heard Earhart broadcasting calls for help over shortwave in the days after her dissapearance, but that they couldn't track her exact location in the vast South Pacific. Earhart said she was on a deserted island but didn't know which one.
I think it was her. Here's a link to an online newspaper report about her calls for help (she even said her name: "‘This is Amelia Earhart. Ship is on a reef south of the equator.’"), as well as a PDF link to a study showing her possible location at the time. PDF
No matter what happened to her, she's still a hero to me.
I've heard about those transmissions before. The article mentions remains being found, I think they eventually determined they weren't hers if I recall. It could be this remians a mystery for all time. I would hope not. Yes, she was something special.
