RE: Weekend-Engagement topics: WEEK 176

in Weekend Experienceslast year

Professor G-dog huh?

Nope, I didn't even finish high school. My life went in other directions and I learned what I know through living it, self-educating and through making a lot of mistakes, re-evaluating, planning and moving forward once more. I'v had training in certain things but don't talk about them here.

Sort:

Yes You could be a professor in life then haha. There's nothing wrong with the other directions. I wish I could have also explored life without going through university. I did it to make my parents happy and I guess it's kind of a safety net and good to have because the world does find education important which isn't wrong but I think there's more to learning and knowing things than a certificate. But for more specialized stuff like doctors and stuff yes I hope they have a certificate and qualified!

As for self educating and learning from those mistakes and moving forward, I believe these are probably the best ways for personal growth. Nothing like going through the actual process. Theory and reality are two different things unfortunately and most of what is learned in university is mostly theory with some application but rarely so.

Not finishing high school has never impeded my progress in life, nor has it negatively impacted my income. Sure, I'm not a gynaecologist or a tenured professor at Harvard...but I never wanted to be. All I ever wanted to be was a fireman, seriously. It didn't happen for one reason or another and I did other things that helped people in other ways, and looking back I'm ok with it. My life is pretty good man, I have everything I want or need and I've shaped it my way...I'm writing a post about that vert thing now actually, about having ownership and responsibility for one's own life.

Anyway. professor of life seems a fitting title. I'll own it.
