The Last 4.1 Hours

in Weekend Experiences3 years ago (edited)

Hello, beautiful souls! Hope you are all doing great :)

The following is a work of the imagination for the 94th edition of the weekend-engagement prompt - first option - "You have only 250 minutes to live, (4.1 hours) and have the chance to speak to three people. Who do you call or see and why? What do you say and how do you feel the conversations would end?"

I was shocked and hurt finding out I only had 4.1 hours to live. Although I wanted to lament and wail - "Why me Lord?", I didn't wish to waste a minute of it. So along with the husband, we drove to the lawyer in town to get my affairs in order - had to leave my will for the convenience of whom I'm leaving behind. The hubby, who had know idea of what's coming, was happy to accompany me. I told him I just need to sign some documents so he stayed in the car and I went to the office.

I spent 30 minutes in there. The lawyer's PA was efficient so I signed the papers and went back to the car thinking about our next stop. We bought a basket of seedless grapes, my parents' favorites. We dropped by the Lechon House for a take away. From there we drove straight to my parents' house where we ate over fun chitchat. We bade goodbye after over 2 hours. Like I always do, hugged them both saying I love them which they warmly reciprocated. They had not the faintest idea that was the last time they'd see me. It was a happy, heartwarming goodbye.

A good 25 minutes was spent at church thanking the Heavens for everything. On the way out, we met Father Roy, the cheerful priest who jokingly asked, "so when are we going to have the baby shower?" I replied, "in God's time!" He said 'Amen!' We chatted a while then left. At least he has something to share for my eulogy.

On the way home, I remembered my digital wallets and everything else. I was glad I updated and saved them days ago. Also wrote them on my notebook so the hubby won't have any difficulty finding them. With 40 minutes left, my mind wandered and wondered what else to do.

I then dialed our family's group chat for a video call. My two sisters popped in saying their usual 'Hellos' then poked fun at my hair to which I retorted they're just jealous of how good I looked, lol! While we were all laughing, my brother came online with the two girls beside him. I heard them say "Hi handsome Tita! Where are you headed to?" I told them we are on the way home. They said "ingats! love you!" which basically translates to 'take care, love you!'

Our eldest sister reminded me of our lunch the following day. Told her she must make sure her wallet is fat because I'll be coming hungry, lol! My second sister butted in saying we must go to the "Eat-All-You-Can" restaurant so she'd meet us too but our eldest toyed with her saying the lunch date is exclusive so no one else is invited, haha! After the fun, told them I love them, waved goodbye feeling loved and full of bliss.

Glancing at the husband, I felt sadness and guilt thinking that soon after, this man is going to cry a river. He noticed me staring so he asked, "what is it hon?" I smiled reaching to his head, played his hair and uttered the 3 magical words we always say to each other. His eyes glistened and said the same. If he wasn't driving, he would have pulled me close to him.

We arrived home and stayed in the car for a little while to let the engine cool down. We chitchatted like we used to. He was to go to Manila a few days later so I teased him to not come home unless he is bringing something I haven't eaten before. "And what might that be?" he asked. "It's up to you to find out," I challenged him even more. He shut the engine off and got out of the car.

"Would you carry me to the house please?" I was half-teasing. The time on my watch showed I only had 3 minutes. Oh my! I wished I could freeze time... The husband came around to my side, bowed comically and said, "Yes your highness, it's an honor to carry you." We giggled shortly, then as he carried me, I held him by the face, kissed him passionately one last time, whispered how much I love him, thanked him, wrapped my arms around him then fell asleep, never to wake up again.

Thank you and have a fantabulous new week!

Hey @ifarmgirl. Really interesting piece here. It’s so thoughtful you spent your short time leaving them with good memories.

We giggled shortly, then as he carried me, I held him by the face, kissed him passionately one last time, whispered how much I love him, thanked him, wrapped my arms around him then fell asleep, never to wake up again.

This ending was so intense. Here gives a sweet moment that changes the entire course of his life.

Beautiful piece and good luck with the contest.
