So, one of this weeks topics in the #weekend-engagement post was Health tips for those over 40. Being a couple decades over 40, I think I can provide a little feedback on this. Not that I actually follow all these or any other regimen on a consistent basis.
Number 1 is stay active. I think this is the most important over anything else that folks recommend. It over-rides nearly everything else in my opinion. And that's in whatever form and amount is right for you. Our bodies are designed to move, not remain stationary. Since I struggle with my schedule being consistent, I like to mix it up a bit as well. I think that mixing it up helps keep the brain and body challenged, rather than getting used to the same exercise movements every single day.
Number 2 is of course watch the weight. As if this hasn't been drilled into our heads.
For me, some days I ride (electric) bicycle, some days I walk, some days I do yoga, some days I do boxing, some days martial arts, some days swimming, some days a combination. That doesn't mean I'm an athlete, nor have I been able to drop the 30 lbs of extra stress weight I've been carrying, but every bit does do better than sitting in the computer chair or on the couch.
Number 3 is find a way to de-stress. Stress adds to the weight, at least for me it does a lot. I tend to stress eat. Out comes the junk food, the constant snacking, the extra drinks, the extra snacks with that, and don't get me started on the chips and salsa!
Per the picture above, de-stressing for me today was a nice long walk on the beach. Due to our recent move I am now close to the beach. In fact, today I had to go to the local Walgreen's to pickup a script. I decided to take ocean drive home down A1A and stop at the beach for a walk. Why? Because I can of course! Waves today were low, and nice to just walk in the shallows.
It was fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised that even on a Sunday afternoon, there were only 4 other people on the beach near the walk-over, and no one within sight at all to the South. I'll Post some additional pics and video later in the week once my Vimeo limits clear out.
I was definitely feeling crabby yesterday, and today's meeting with a live crab or three on my walk certainly brightened up my mood. May have to zoom a bit to see the crabby hiding in the sand.
Lastly, to help you along your way to de-stressing, I'll leave you with a little beach vibe. Feel free to put on repeat, close your eyes and relax!

Back when I was about 43 or 44, I had a friend who was 47 and he had a pretty bad heart attack. Ever since then I have been doing what I can to get in better shape. It doesn't always show, but I recently had a stress test and I did quite well on it, so despite the gut, I am doing pretty good I guess.
Glad to hear yours came out well. I also had my first one last month and came out good for my age and High BP issues. It helped me feel a little safer about upping my exercise levels a bit more.
Yeah, I have high BP too, so when they offered for me to take a test I was like sure, why not. I'd rather know now than have something suddenly happen and have them be like oh dang, if only we had known....
I ended up scoring a 9, but I was really close to making 10 minutes. I just ran out of breath. If they had let me know I was only like 11 seconds away from hitting 10 minutes I would have pushed through.
I like the practicality of your advice, and I agree with your 3 tips. All can tie in together in one activity. Whenever I do photo walks, I feel active, burn some calories, and of course, photography is therapeutic, which is a good way to de-stress. 👍
Walking along the beach and taking photos like you did must be fun as well. 🤩
Yes, I don't do much of the super strenuous activities anymore. Although I must say the surfing and Bodyboarding was more than I thought it would be! No more surfing for me (at least for awhile) lol. The medium level is great for the de-stressing and enjoyment without forcing it.
To live healthy, you must be active, such as walking, running and physical activity. Apart from this, food should be eaten less and balanced food should be eaten. Nutrition and vitamins should also be considered.
Definitely another good Recommendation. Not one I adhere to all the time. I generally eat fairly healthy, but still often overdo it, and also have my fav junk foods. Everything in moderation they say. I don't subscribe to the complete vegan or other complete strict things. I believe we need to both allow our bodies some "poison" so that it maintains strong defenses to fight these things, and also that without some enjoyment life is not worth living. It's about quality of life for me, not "only" the length. A good mix suits me best, maybe not all.
