For starters, it gives the rest of the ability to really appreciate people like dreemsteem, for instance. It also helps us to know what we don't like, so we can go after the things we do like.

Yes, well, value can be negative, but value is value. It adds something to something. Even if it is a negative experience, it is an experience to gain from.
