Squirrel Sunday - Dumpster Diver

Here is a little dumpster diver for this #squirrelsunday

At the park I noticed a fluffy tail sticking out of the trash can.

This little guy thinks he is a rat or something.

I only had my macro lens with me so I had to slowly approach to get a better shot. At first the squirrel looked like it would bold but instead it just looked at me to see if I was throwing away another treat.

Now it returned to eating the pink frosting from a cupcake someone threw away. Now it better go out and eat a bunch of greens to offset that sugar rush.

I went to a more wild area of the park and the squirrels weren't as cooperative. I managed to catch this one mid-jump right as my camera tried to focus on it.

This one booked it over the fence. It probably thought I was there to steal its walnut.

p5125895_copy.jpg
Off in the distance I saw this one eating in a very precarious way.

p5125898_copy.jpg
It was getting too dark for my camera by now so I was only able to focus in on the balancing feet. Imagine standing on a skinny plank in a squatting position to eat your lunch.

This one was a bit more stabilized in an eating position. I'm sure its jealous of the one that got all the cupcake frosting while it has to eat a bitter acorn.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

Sort:

A squirrel tail would be really nice to balance yoga positions. Take some of the work off the core lol Fun post 🙂

I've seen them balance on the very end of a branch somehow while it was blowing in the wind while eating at the same time. That tail must be a gyroscope.

Lol squatting to eat lunch? Well I'd do it for cupcakes with pink frosting for sure...dumpster diving though? Not that much of a fan 🐿️

That little thing was spoiled for sure. I've seen them out in the park eating oreo cookies too. Not sure if they came out of a dumpster or if someone fed it to them.

Greetings photographer friend, I like very much this sharing that you have with Nature, squirrels are very fast, and the truth is that you have to get used to them without scaring them, something very difficult, but you can, as well as you, as far as I can see they already like you and allow you to share a little with them.

Some squirrels are really tame but most are really jumpy. I almost could have pet the one that was dumpster diving, I bet that one would eat out of my hand if I had a treat.

I have never seen any of our nearby squirrels go dumpster diving, probably because the blasted seagulls have laid claim to all the bins!
You still got some cracking pics, I love the squirrel mid jump, obviously such a fast jumper he was a blur apart from his feet🤣🐿️

Seagulls are pretty mean competition and probably more territorial than squirrels. I don't know how many times I have a good focus on a squirrel then right when I click the photo they've bounced out of focus.

It is also numbers, being a coastal town where I live, the bloody seagulls are absolutely everywhere, as the park where some of the squirrels are has a mini lake the seagulls take that over too.
Yes I know exactly what you mean about the squirrels bouncing out of focus🤣

The store owners better keep their doors shut over there with all those seagulls.

hehe yes I have seen similar to that here, cheeky as anything they are!

Yay! 🤗

always nice to see the pictures you show. all the squirrel pictures you show today are just awesome.

Thanks they are all over the place here and always a funny subject to try and get photos of. If I ever get a house with a yard I'll be setting up obstacle courses for them and filming it.

The mid-jump is an interesting effect

Oh, look how unkempt and disheveled he is. Looks like a bum.😄

Because of the red frosting I thought it was eating some kind of meat at first then I looked in there and saw the frosting. Well fed little bum.

This was the bit of lightheartedness I needed to start my day. I have always been fascinated with squirrels ever since I saw my first one in the USA. Those are some fast creatures so I am surprised you got these lovely shots.

Some of them can be quite tame and will even take treats out of your hand. This one was in a garden style park with lots of flowers and people so it got used to everyone, especially what they throw away. It probably sees us walking around and wonders what sort of treats that human has. All I had was a camera though.
