[WE98] Diving with Tiger Sharks || One of the Best Travel Experiences in my Life!

in Weekend Experiences3 years ago

🔅My favourite holiday🔅Today, I am joining the #weekend-engagement with the following topic:

If I look back at all my travels, It is kinda hard to pick a trip which is truly my favourite, so I would rather like to call this experience one of my favorites, but I am still able to say that it was one of the most special moments of my life, the moment I got to dive with Tiger Sharks in fuvahmulah, Maldives!

Maldives is one of the best places in the entire world to dive with sharks, with Fuvahmulah Island as a dream destination due to the tigersharks which are always around and easy to spot, since they get fed in the harbour.
I went to Fuvahmulah island with the budget cruise I booked (okay, it was a cargo ship). And I got hosted by some beautiful people from Couchsurfing, who showed me Maldivian life on the islands and its beautiful beaches.

But the highlight was definitely this dive! We dived in and we saw the sharks appearing within minutes, and they were so big! They would swim straight towards me, to swim just above my head, less than a meter away. They moved so slow and gentle, it was exciting and so special! I wish I could only describe how it felt. It was amazing to be so close to such a majestic animal!

One thing that scared me a bit was the current in the sea, which made me hold on to a rock. I was scared that the current would push me against a shark, I don't think they would have appreciated that! But the Maldivians told me there isn't any known shark attack here in the Maldives so far, except some fisherman in the past, who tried to catch a shark and pull him on tje boat. That is asking for problems. Sharks are not as mean as people often think.

Would you dare to dive with sharks?

Looks pretty adventurous! I "swam with the sharks" once in all places, Denver, Colorado. How? Well they promote it at the Denver Aquarium. The large fish, including a couple sharks, a huge swordfish and others are kind of swimming around in circles in this large tank. They take a group of people down and you kind of kneel in a trench that goes around the outside. Was able to touch them as they swam by. You're right about the power, incredible to feel them swim by in that environment. I can only imagine in open water. One thing when I had a nice solid wall behind me, not sure I'd enjoy as much with multiples lurking around.

I did get this cool T-shirt though... lol

Now the Maldives sounds like a trip I would enjoy. I've seen some videos of the cottages UNDER the water. Now that I'm in for. Bring the sharks on while I'm in the human Airquarium.

That sounds pretty cool as well, and the Tshirt is a great memory!
I haven't been in all those luxurious places when I went there, but I have seen pictures of those underwater restaurants and it seems pretty cool to enjoy breakfast while sharks are passing by!
Unfortunately, I only went to the local islands (which are pretty cool as well) It was the last month of my 7 months travel and this dives pretty much took my last money 😅

Yes, breakfast with the sharks would be great. It's on my "When I win the Lottery" list, or maybe when Hive passes the moon and hits Pluto levels!

Yess I hope so! But for now I would already be happy if Hive goes back to the 1,5 USD.

Anyway, Maafusi is actually an affordable maldivian island with affordable rooms. The island isn't picture perfect but they offer awesome tours, You get to see nurse sharks and dolphins. If you go only one or two nights to a resort, it is still quite doable. Ohh can I go back already!

Hi Sascha, I knew you'd come up with something interesting this week. Thanks for getting involved.

I've not intentionally dived with sharks but here in Australia sharks are a common thing. Most, one doesn't want to meet, but I was snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef a while back and ended up too close for comfort with some reef sharks. They behaved though, and I have all my arms and legs.

People get taken by sharks here all the time and I'd rather not, so I keep my distance generally. 😊

Australia must be a shark paradise as well! It would be exciting to go there some day and visit the great barrier reef!
I indeed heard that surfers and swimmers often get taken, also by tiger sharks. I guess here in the Maldives they have more mercy.

Yeah, Australian sharks aren't always very friendly.

wow that was a great adventure, look at that swimming with sharks, it just makes me remember all the movies I've seen about them, and it makes me a little scared, congratulations, and it's a good photo, greetings from Venezuela!!!

Yeahh it was! Although it gives a great comfort to know there had not been any shark attacks there.
