ThE BANK JOB::: THE INK WELL PROMPT #80

in The Ink Well2 years ago

Greetings Everyone

Lisa hissed and collapsed onto the only sofa chair in her room, her eyes fixed on the PVC ceiling, which was lazily fixed and forced to stand as she lay all very exhausted as she reminisced about the day's events. For she has never been this worked out in her life before.

Lisa happened to be one of those resilient, struggling youths who believed more in being an independent person, getting a life before settling down so she wouldn't be bossed around by people and also to make herself all round happy, for it isn't an easy thing for a woman of her kind and also from the kind of place she lived and was from. So change that story line. She worked her butt up to better her life but never had a single thought of this kind of day in her life.

Lisa, who is from the trenches and had always been there all her life, managed to finish school through serious struggling and dedication. As I earlier said, she was a resilient type, and God helping her, she had rounded up her program and gotten her a degree certificate in Accountancy. For her, this was a turning point in her life, but she never knew how things would be out of school, though she had already had a taste of part of that lifestyle from childhood.

Lisa rounded up and went in to serve her country for a year, and when she was done, it was time to get herself settled and look for a better job. So she began her job search, and not long after a recommendation from a senior colleague from where she served, she was hired by one of the local banks in her area. Lisa felt so happy. It was the happiest day of her life when she found out she had gotten the job. All she fantasized about was how to start work the following week.

So, the long awaited week came and Lisa had prepared herself and headed to work as early as possible. She always loved a section where she could have more contact with people, and, based on the fact that she was newly employed, she was given a desk at the bank counter where most of their daily transactions were done.

In no time, Lisa was already used to the whole system and also how most transactions were done. It was quick for her since she had one year of experience with this before. The morning at work started well. It was easy-going and lively not until students who schooled close to the bank were to start their fee payment that day, all started to work in and out of the bank.

Since there are only two counters for transactions, one for payment and one for withdrawals, Lisa was left with no choice but to carry her cross. She started to laugh, but before she could realize it, she had missed lunch period, all carried away by the work of the day. She was all engrossed and was deep into the work she was trying to meet up for that day, since for the moment she had a stable network, so she could attend to as many people as she could, for nothing could be more frustrating and tiring than having a hectic day at work already and also having a bad network to go along with the worst feeling ever.

She was on duty performing transactions, paying fees, sending money to other recipients and other sorts of transactions. It was as if she was the only one at the bank that day, and since she was fast, students and other customers queued up in line waiting for her. With no break and nothing for lunch for her that day, she began to get tired, weak, and also exhausted as time went on.

To top it all, her new employer was not easy on her. He pressured her to work faster than she normally did, saying there were lots of people yet to be attended to and that she was to make sure those people were all attended to. Before she knew it, it was already past 4:40pm in the evening. Then she remembered she had gone all day without food. This was what got her all worked out, mostly.

By this time, she was now so finished that it was just the saving grace of God that kept her going. The bank had closed by 5pm and when she finally thought of going home, the manager told her she was to stay back for a brief meeting since it was her first time and she needed to be introduced to others. She felt the ground should open and swallow her in. She was seriously exhausted.

The meeting took another hour, so by the time she was finished and ready to go home, it was past 6 p.m., and by the time she arrived at her house, it was already past 8 p.m.

Such a first day at work, she thought. It was really beyond what she ever imagined. How could people be so cruel to allow her to work this much on her first day at work? She was so tired that all she could remember was sitting on her sofa and reminiscing about how her day went. She was woken up by the alarm of her phone, as she had earlier dozed off to sleep, only to wake the next morning. She realized she had slept with an empty stomach.

What a waste, she thought as she worked up, remembering how it went down with her the previous day at work.

The Bank Job.That's a great name, @gi-de-on:

Poor Lisa. She didn't eat all day! Many readers have have had a similar experience with their first jobs. Nobody shows them the ropes. People take advantage.

You do an excellent job of 'show, don't tell'. We feel Lisa's fatigue and hunger. She is truly exhausted and you convey this well. It's good that the new day starts the way it does. There is no happy reprieve. This is work. The real world, and Lisa will learn to adjust.

Thank you for sharing this relatable story with us. We appreciate very much that you engage with other authors. Thank you!

I am grateful for such beautiful feedback from you it means a lot.
Thanks for leaving such beautiful comment for me I am grateful.

Funny how immediately you start a new job everyone wants to give you Extra work. I think Lisa will adjust and learn to prioritize her work load.

Yeah... People tend to take advantage of the innocent ones these days

Being anxious on the first day at work is always this and with time, she will adapt to the tradition of the job.

Bank job us not as simple as many people think, it can be really stressful and exhausting.

I thought Lisa collapsed onto the sofa as the bank got robbed, haha.
Well, Lisa is robbed, not by the conventional robber but by the most exploiter of the industry system, aka corporate.
And just like this, thousands of youths lost their enthusiasm to strive for more. Nicely written, mate!
