Hello guys! Today I wanna share with you control magic deck that I used on the last WR. I started with it pretty decent 7/10 but after I got lose streak of 3 games and started to try other decks that are more funny. After first losses I realised that my deck needs at least 1 copy of gleamweaver and iron-tooth. So you'll see the deck at its final stage for now.

At the end of this post I'll attach link to a gameplay video vs Whale Control Light deck (shadow demos and other expensive stuff). After this one I'll make a new video with this deck against most popular archetypes rom WR. If you like the video, support me by clicking on a 👍 button and subscribe to my YT channel.

Few words before we start

This deck is pretty common for the last few weeks. Main idea of it is control the board until 7 mana where you will start to drop your big frontlines which are the winning conditions. In some games your finishers will be Leyhoards and Unbound Flames in face. Other way is to gamble something really BIG from Metamorphosis one of your 8 drops (e.g. you hit the face and metamorph it to Anagreos and hit extra 12 dmg in face).

There are some ways to improve it, e.g. instead of Labyrinth Guard you can use Ekrileth and it would be much better.

Early Game Board Control

These spells are used in most of the Magic decks now, so nothing new. You want them in your open hand some of them for sure. In current meta people commonly using relic removal, but still I left 1 copy of Lightning Talisman. It becomes less powerful after mechanics been fixed (you don't need to have a minion on board to remove durability after hitting in face).

Mid-game AOE

From the standard bunch of AOEs this differs only in Stormstress. It won't kill much, but it gives you a pretty frontline on board. You can suggest your own variation of AOE spells, but I think that only Unannounced Arrival could be questionable after it's been nerfed.

Late Game Finishers

  • Labyrinth Guard isn't a finisher itself, but helps to stop the pressure, better option will be Ekrileth, but unfortunately I don't have it.
  • City planner is nice because he gives you 2 frontlines at a time 9/15 worth of stats.
  • Helian Elite is also a big wall and it's often hard to deal with it.
  • Moramag has an AOE potential if you hve 9 cards in hand before you play him and also it hit 8 dmg in face with its roar effect. It will be easy for you to have 9 cards in hand because of echo cards (carddraw Frenetic Bibliomaniac and ramp Crystaltech Scholar)

Optional Tools

  • Metamorphosis is a just damn good card in this archetype, you can transform not only your creatures, but your opponents' (e.g. you face Polyhimnia, use magebolt to break ward and then transform it into 3/3 Leyhoard because its the only 10 mana creature, easy clap 😀). Also you can transform your 8 drops into Anagreos, Avatar of Magic, Hippa, Poly, etc.
  • Gleamweaver I'd say is a must have card in most decks now because of Anubians and Control Light (nowadays most popular archetypes that use void) to remove Priestess of Takhat, Radiant Embalmers, Inescapable Duties and other stuff.Very powerful tool.
  • Iron-tooth goblin helps you to remove those Skullscepters, Necroscepters, War and other relics.
  • Pallas' Incantation can serve you 2 ways: remove from the void thos 1 mana anubians before Land of the Dead comes and destroy big drops from your opponet (esp. in a mirror match)
