I don't have enough information, to make a well-informed comment. I can comment a little on this:

While your global "shareholders" may never actually come there to visit, it sounds like there is local interest in staying there, right? As I am sure you are well aware, places to stay, e.g. AirBNB or VRBO, are big here in the US, for vacationers.
It is always a supply and demand analysis I would think. As you mention a Canadian family nearby, I would assume whether local or further away, there is at least some demand? That would be big for me, if I were more personally involved - demand driving the cashflow to sustain continued ownership costs at a minimum, then working toward an income stream that is more or less consistent ...
