Tofu on the wall, a happy memory framed

in Sketchbook2 months ago

At the end of last year, I ventured into making the invitation for my birthday party. It had been a few years since I last threw a party to celebrate the date, so this time, I wanted to do everything in a personalized way. It was the first time I hand-drew an invitation, and the process turned out to be really fun.

My biggest inspiration was drawing my cat, Tofu Augusto, as the central character of the party, enjoying drinks and food at a table. Just a fantasy from my imagination, since in real life, Tofu is the first to run away and hide when people come to my house, making it clear that he is even more antisocial than I am.

I made the drawing without many expectations beyond having fun while watching a movie on the couch. Almost like a hobby or something therapeutic. I didn’t even know if I would like it enough to actually turn it into an invitation or even show it to anyone.

In the end, I liked the drawing much more than I had imagined. I thought it was cute, but above all, fun and full of personality. So I turned to an editing program to finalize the artwork and add details about the date and time of the party. It turned out better than I expected, especially considering that I’m neither an illustrator nor a designer.

A few months after the party, I realized that this drawing was far too cute to be forgotten in a drawer, so I decided to frame it to see it every day. I chose an oval frame, not only because it was the only one I had at home at the time, but also because I felt it matched the energy of the cat drawing.

I trimmed the paper to fit perfectly inside the frame and loved the result. Now it hangs on my wall, a daily reminder of that happy day.
