Future POSH idea: being rewarded for discussing/mentioning Hive on #web2

in OCD3 years ago

While we're awaiting some big improvements to both @poshtoken and the website hiveposh.com and have some contests lined up for when that is ready, along with the POSH PETS NFT we're waiting on finally getting out there, I wanted to make a post about a different kind of POSH activity I have been thinking of rewarding but wondering what the best way would be to go about it, hence I'm writing this post now to see what the community thinks as it is very much a community driven project.

So let's say POSH is now working perfectly, you are registered on hiveposh.com and have linked your web2 accounts with your Hive account to received earned POSH and Hive rewards, but there is something you're wondering on why it isn't being rewarded similar to how POSH works.

Discussions and mentions of #hive outside of sharing direct Hive links in tweets or replies.

One could say that a well-placed comment to a tweet could be worth just as much if not more than sharing a Hive link along with the rest of your worded tweet. Someone out there may be wondering why there are no proper web3's yet and you are there in time and have the community backing your tweet with likes and retweets for letting them know that Hive exists and that they've been missing out on it. That should be rewarded as well, right? A link may maybe do the thing you are saying less justice there considering many are tired of links from the era of referral links sending people to scams or pyramid schemes.

Then again, though, not everyone may have the best intentions of Hive when tagging or discussing about it. Many of you here know the history of how we split up from the centralized chain that was taken over in the most unbelievable way possible through the help of exchanges locking up users funds to help Justin Sun overtake governance and how the remaining fake witnesses turned to stealing people's assets because they didn't receive a Hive airdrop after directly assisting the takeover through witness voting. Needless to say Hive has enemies, not just those from that part of the history but also others who are aware of Hive but would like to start their own solution of a token they can have a much bigger control of thus profit off more than buy into Hive and see the decentralized community do well and reach for new heights and possibilities that would bring. Not to mention the giants of currently leading web2 platforms who would in no way want others to have a chance to shine, either way, point is there are enemies and they're not going to rest similar as we don't rest about letting others know what Hive has to offer for decentralization, immutability and fair rewards towards users.

With that said, this activity would be a bit more controversial, you'd want to be able to ban users from earning POSH for different reasons other than the usual sockpuppetry twitter abuse we've had to remove some POSH earners from. Thus my idea was that maybe it could instead be a different token but linked to POSH in certain ways.

  • POSH holders could in a governance way vote if certain Twitter accounts should be disallowed from earning from their controversial tweets.
  • Part of the new token could be airdropped to POSH holders.
  • POSH, seeing as it is becoming like its own DAO, could support the new token with some buy back the same way it does for POSH.
  • This new token would be specifically for "no links" tweets discussing hive and our ecosystem.

Okay so let's get over these points a bit now, the governance vote would be a bit technical and maybe not worth all the effort to build just to vote on who gets to be removed from earning said new token, maybe a simple post and discussion surrounding the user would do well enough.

Airdropping is a popular way to kickstart a token, even though POSH still to this day has no real demand to be purchased aside from speculation, this could give the current token holders some extra benefits and since many who've earned POSH have already provided a lot of value to Hive by potentially bringing in more users to our front-ends and if anything growing the twitter space of Hive users they'd deserve an airdrop in the new currency that would reward people for primarily discussing and tagging hive in other ways than through links.

Buybacks are also popular in the space, if you believe in your token and believe it is bringing value to Hive you want to continue rewarding such activity consistently at the cost of the hive reward pool. There's a lot of things being rewarded these days and as long as the community agrees that this activity is worth it it will keep being rewarded through means of buybacks and burns (or staking rewards) to holders and earners. @poshtoken is growing through the reward pool, in the future if it becomes big enough it may even get it's own proposal going to be funded, the way things have been going I don't think we're far off from reaching that point looking at the activity we have on Twitter these days. Add in a few more web2 POSH eligible front-ends and we may start to see our community grow a lot more on web2 to assist our ecosystem with much needed traffic and activitiy from new users. As a social media platform that is one of its main needs.

Last point is selfexplanatory.

The question now is, why not just allocate a certain % of the daily POSH issuance towards the "no link" activity, rather than creating a new "sub token".

So the reason I think it would be better with another token connected to it, is that we'd want the POSH token to keep being rewarded for direct links. Not just that those would over time be more verifiable (think @peakd view counter, potential other front-ends adding viewcounters in the future), it would give the sharing activity more weight in terms of not only are you earning POSH and potential Hive for it, but possibly even adrevenue from sending people to your or other users Hive posts through web2. To be honest I'm surprised we haven't tackled adrevenue content creator rewarding yet but I'm sure it's something we're going to get to eventually with more traffic.

Another reason is that POSH itself could be a standalone program for bigger "influencers" to earn by sharing Hive links on web2. When at some point users can earn from not only sharing onto Twitter but a diverse range of other web2 platforms and hiveposh.com does not only let you link your Hive and Twitter (and other web2 accounts) but also offers a way to create a hive account, there could be many signing up who aren't content creators themselves but wish to share Hive posts they like to their wide audience on web2 and directly earn POSH or another currency of choise to be transferred to a wallet of their choosing.

Having the two tokens interconnected with each other also gives value to current holders along with many future additions we want to add towards POSH and possibly the other token.

Anyway, just some thoughts about it, there is obviously a lot of things to still finetune and the new token is still some ways off before being created but it's never too early to bring things up to discuss them and listen to ideas of how they can be created better and include more ways to bring value to the project which in turn brings value to the Hive ecosystem and everyone involved as a whole.

Last but not least, what do you all think of the token name "POSHI"/"POSHi", would fit well with it being a subtoken to POSH and at the same time could stand for "proof of shilling", the word shilling has some negative annotations towards it mainly cause most people who do shill these days do it for literal garbage coins and tokens (not fully their fault considering that's over 80% of the top200 marketcap) but when you have something of actual value, potential, utility and innovation I'd say shilling is very much acceptable in that case and should be encouraged. :)

Let me know your thoughts!

How about calling it PROMO token? For rewarding actions that promote the Hive community.

That's a great suggestion!

Im a big fan of how posh works atm, but this new idea actually would bring posh to the next level. Finding good tweets and then sending these replies took me a few minutes, and if Hivers are already browsing twitter, having a posh incentive would maybe encourage them to leave replies like the ones I did.

I think you should go ahead and add this layer of posh allocation, it could attract more users into engaging with other tweets in an organic way and promote hive in a meaningful way with a concrete goal.

I was browsing the #medium tag on twitter and damn, there are a lot of authors that we could bring to hive if we swarmed them with engagement and invitations to join the Hive Fam:

Worth noting, I like the first idea better of allocating a % of the inflation to no-link sharing instead of creating a new token for this.

Also, targeting specific tags like #medium lets Hivers notice who is already a writer who can easily pack their medium bags and move to hive, whereas just browsing twitter in general makes it harder for Hivers to find actual long-style post writers by just reading tweets. Medium writers are set on a silver plate to be lured to Hive

Yeah exactly for tweets like these, it'd be really great for users to know that all they have to do is just sign up once and passively keep earning POSH or another token they can trade into Hive at any time for doing something they already may be doing for their own investment or to actually help people out with finding hive and improving their life that way.

I think a new token for shilling hive without adding links is a great idea. A lot of the time people are afraid of clicking links.

POSHI

Hmm, sounds like a baby dog XD

what do you all think of the token name "POSHI"/"POSHi", would fit well with it being a subtoken to POSH

Does not sound good to me , the word is not strong and appealing :)

myeah, but same could be said for many tokens, guess the important thing is what they do rather than what they're called, but I'm all ears for better names if you have any suggestions!

POSD OR POSHD : POSSESSED OR OBSESSION-ED

I like POSHD. Sounds like a verb.

That's a great idea Acid. A lot of people do it for free and if you reward them, they will do even more. :))

I also think we must focus on creating more utilities for POSH rather than creating a new token. Although a new token will keep things separate but if this can be done under POSH itself, then why not.

I really like they way this project has evolved and keeps evolving with time. To me, this could be the next best thing for hive with the capacity to propel us to mainstream adoption. A roadmap with definitive timeframe for each milestone would be very good and may even attract bigger investors.

Being able to earn a token for discussing hive in positive light is awesome. However, i think this should come after integrating posh with other web 2.0 platforms such as FB, Reddit, etc.

Just my thoughts.

Roadmaps are hard, unfortunately most things that take time is uncertainty of dev work and their timeframe. We're constantly trying to improve it and reach out to other developers to help but having more funding and a bigger account + higher hive price will certainly help to be taken more serious in the near future. Until then all we can do is babysteps and be happy the pure concept of POSH works close to perfection.

Babysteps are finer than no steps at all.

At what point would it be enough to get funding through DHF? I mean, this is the kind of project that should be getting funded if properly presented.

That could be a lot of tweets, retweets and discussions about hive and web3 rewarded. It would be interesting to see how it works in reality. Hopefully the dapps build in page counters like peakd has so we can tangibly see the impact of results.

I currently try to drive traffic from twitter, noise.cash and ListNerds. ListNerds is hives own web3 platform.

I like the sub token idea, but shilling has bad conatations. Not sure about the name.

Thanks for.all your work to boost the community.

That's a super cool idea and I really believe that you are on the right path to bringing extra engagement to the platform! The first time I saw POSH, I knew instantly that is going to be a very nice idea of rewarding users who share their work outside of the platform! Tbh the only reason I started engaging with Twitter again after many years of being inactive was the POSH token.
Keep up the great work and also the name POSHi is not so bad.

The name POSHI doesn't sound nice am sorry to say but with the name POSH sounds stronger and attractive

I'm fairly new. Was on Steemit under a different name, got off the chain for a while, and now I'm back. I'm not as familiar with POSH as some of you, but I do live Hive. I consider it an improved version of Steemit. Rewarding people for mentioning Hive on Web2, whether through POSH tokens or something else, is a very good idea.

You are much more knowledgeable about Hive than we are and I know that you would not create another token if you are not sure you can guarantee value and usefulness. POSHI is nice, why not 👍

Through the site I can only see the first 500 holders.
How do I see how much posh I own? I started working on twitter a short time ago.Hello @acidyo n my friends!

remark: this is the best logo! hahah love the Mew, gorgeous pokemon!

When I saw Poshi. I immediately thought about iPosh.

Nice idea, it’ll slap some people in the face to know there’s a possibility to earn something from Twitter Shilling. Soooo many people do it for free for different projects.

I can’t imagine how interesting it’ll look when iPosh becomes more valuable than Posh(if it’ll ever be possible) but it’ll sure get almost everyone trying to Shill hive on Twitter.

Good for hive…..I hope

I too think that an incentive for spreading out the Hive-buzzing-word would be great. I am not sure if so many tokens are always necessary to host and support new activities, but yeah. I am definitely up for that!

The token has value and will continue to be guaranteed to have value for anyone wanting to trade it back to Hive, which many do.

Delegations for new users is something we offer (outside of POSH) for our ocd onboarding program but you have to be careful there as people will attempt to abuse it with fake accounts and fake referrals, that's why our onboarders are vetted and experienced hive users with "something to lose" if they're found abusing it.

Anyway, I mentioned why I think it should be a different token compared to just building it onto POSH. Having said that it's hard to take a comment serious when it is created by someone this new on the chain about something as complicated as the posh incentivization program to not just share hive links onto twitter but also grow your presence there so your shares become more effective over time.

The goal is not to lure people in to buy hive, it's enough they create an account and become active, buying is for anyone who can afford and wants to later when they understand what Hive is and does well enough.

commented with the wrong account by accident.
