Iko Okochi (Festival of the dry season)

in OCD3 years ago

This is all about the cultural heritage of my town Afikpo
Afikpo north local government area is in Ebonyi state, Nigeria. Afikpo is made up of five autonomous communities namely Nokpogoro, Ugeuegu, Ohaisu, Itim and Oziza Ibii. The month of November is a great month for men in Afikpo because it's the period for Iko Okochi(festival of the dry season), during this period most of the young men go to hire or buy special Afikpo masquerade costumes which they will display on the festive day of any of the above mentioned communities. And each community will wait for four market days for their turn and it must be on Orie market day.
