Ooh kidnap me they can't ask for a passport if I'm kidnapped. ;D
And then once I'm there I can just be like, "No, see, my grandparents were born here, OF COURSE I can stay!"
We should just channel our inner Karens and be like, BACK IN MY DAY YOU DIDN'T NEED A PASSPORT TO CROSS BETWEEN THE US AND CANADA WHAT IS THIS NAZI GERMANY I WANT TO SPEAK TO YOUR MANAGER!
I could also go to Maine and then just hop in a boat and be like, hey, my ancestors have been doing this since forever, your borders mean nothing - which it turns out is true. Did I tell you that while I was working on my family tree, I discovered my great grandparents - the ones from New Brunswick - on the US census in Maine in 1900, and I was totally flabbergasted because my grandma was born in New Brunswick and that's where their farm was? Well that's the part of the family where I have Mi'kmaq ancestors and there are Mi'kmaq folx in Maine so my running theory is that that was just some normal, hey we travel around for visiting family or fishing or whatever because this is ALL Mi'kmaq land, your borders are meaningless - and they just happened to be on that side of the arbitrary line at that time that the census happened. I mean, I can't know 100% for certain, but that's the only thing I can figure since they went back later and my grandma was born in NB. XD
Family tree research is WILD, yo. And it makes me cuss a lot because old records suck. LOL
Yesssss I do remember your ancestry, I would just be bringing you home Fren! (Well, two meaningless borders away from home, we'd have to get you to the other side of the Bay of Fundy to really get you home!) Sigh...
MMmm I didn't remember about the mines fak! Nova Scotia had the highest cancer rate in all of Canada, and they say it's the people who worked in the mines :'( So many got sick from it :'(
Apparently some great uncle or great great uncle of mine was one of the instigators in some mine strikes there. I'm like - I'm NOT the only SJW in the family, hooray! :D
Great post!
Thank you Jaki! I'm glad you liked it 😘
