dannewton just finished a 12.74km run, that lasted for 77 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 953.0 calories.

Description from Strava: Yuck! It's pretty grim out there! And its been wet and miserable ALL day here.

I did try to head outside first thing this morning, and it was so awfully wet that I just had no motivation to get out of bed. I guess I was hoping (and praying!) that the rain would ease up by the time I headed out for a run this evening...

Technically it did almost stop at 2pm, for about 30 minutes, and then it poured down, and its poured down ever since!

By the time 4:00pm arrived and I was able to log off from work, I looked out the window and knew that I was gonna get soaked, and there was nothing I could do about it.

I could of course just take the day off... but in order to see improvements, training needs to be consistent. In the UK, as we head into Autumn and Winter, that means just going out and getting the job done.

I was off course going to get soaked, but I knew I would dry off relatively quickly when I got home... the bigger issue is making I was warm enough. To protect myself from the elements, I had a little rain jacket and put some gloves on. I also put on a baseball cap in order to keep the rain of my face the best I could.

To be honest, once I quit procrastinating and just got on with the run, it didn't actually feel as bad as it looked (although I'm sure that helped with the clothes/accessories that helped provide some protection

The run was the standard out and back route along the bypass (you'll be seeing more of this as Winter sets in!), and I added a 2nd rep up the hill at the furthest point to stretch my run out to 12km in total

My legs were still a little stiff from the weekend exertions, and I blame most of that on the below strength exercises

After an easy 30 minutes on Sunday morning, I came home and went straight into this. Its basically a circuit of 5 different exercises, done for 60 seconds each, with a brief rest between each exercise, and then repeated for a 2nd set. There's only 10 minutes of actual strength work, plus some time spent stretching afterwards, but I could tell how unfit I was by how stiff my legs were this morning.

It's been a while since I've done this stuff, and I really should be doing more of it, not just as part of injury prevention, but also it will in time help me to be come a stronger and faster runner. So even though it feels like I'm back at square 1 again, I've gotta start somewhere!

Tomorrow will be a day in the office, followed by a short recovery run in the evening, and hopefully it will have stopped raining by then (fingers crossed my clothes and shoes will have dried out as well!)

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)

If i was you, i may have not stepped out of my bed even after hearing about the rain, but you did great and it made your day.

!LOL I told the people I work with, they all said I was daft.... I didn't care though, and I was definitely glad I got it done!

Very nicely done. When I go jogging I actually don't mind that much when it starts to rain because of the cool-off factor but I admit that I have a hard time getting motivated to start a run if it is already raining before I leave the house. Kudos to you for having the dedication!

Thanks man!

And same, I don't mind if it starts raining during the run (even if I know its forecast) but it is so much harder to motivate myself when it already chucking it down.

Its certainly character building at least haha!

!STRIDE

"character building" is an excellent way of putting it. I always know that the people that are out there in inclement weather are the "hardcore" people and while I do not consider myself to be that, I like to be a member of that crew for a while. Sometimes I will fist bump with complete strangers when we are running in the rain, sort of a community sort of thing.

Definitely is a 'mutual respect' kinda thing when you pass a fellow runner out in the rain!

Besides, there's no knowing what the weather will be on race day, we may hope for good conditions, but there is always the potential for cold/wet weather, so you might as well practice for it

It's been pretty horrible here, but I've not run in a while due to a cold. I hope to be back to it soon and may be things will dry out a bit.

!BEER

Ah, well if you're feeling under the weather (ahem) then probably best to avoid the cold and the rain until you're feeling better!

Keep going, you're smashing your training at the moment and getting stronger every day.
