dannewton just finished a 9.3km run, that lasted for 57 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 736.0 calories.

Description from Strava: So, new coat time. I had bought it as I needed a proper waterproof coat as part of the mandatory kit list for the upcoming race. Obviously I needed to try it on before hand just so I knew it ok etc... and tonight would be perfect, as its been raining all afternoon.

A great opportunity to test it out, except

it flippin' stopped raining!

Goddammit! Where's the rain when you need some eh?

Nevermind, it was cold out there this afternoon, so I'd need a 2nd layer, I'll wear it anyway. Today's run was a bimble out along the bypass and back. Nothing fancy, just getting the miles done. Even though there was no rain, it was still a chance try the coat out.

Verdict?

Yeah pretty happy with it. It's quite noisy and rustles a lot when I run, but that's to be expected with the plastic nylon material. I think that if I wear the running vest with it, the fabric won't move so much so should be a little quieter. I tried the hood, and I was able to adjust it so it fit snugly on my head, but still allowed some movement from side to side.

I then quickly decided that wearing a rain hood when it wasn't actually raining made me look a bit of a twat, so I took it down again 🤣

The only cause for concern is the heat I guess. It was chilly out there at 5C, and I only had shorts and t-shirt and then the coat. Within 20 minutes I was already starting to heat up. I know the whole point of waterproofing is to keep the water out, but it's also means it'll keep a lot of moisture in.

There's not much I can do about that apart from hope that the weather is either cold and wet, or warm and dry!

Anyway, run completed, and now about to have some dinner (tikka masala tonight). And I guess I'll be praying to get some actual rain on the next run

I never thought I'd be saying that!

Does it have armpit zips? I hope so! I use them constantly here in Australia because if I'm actually out doing something fun in the rain (longer run or walk) and I'm anywhere other than the mountain/snow region or Tasmania then it's almost always too hot to have everything zipped up!

Things I never expect a Brit to say

lol! so true... but to be honest you'll rarely hear a Brit say "its a lovely day out there". Its always too hot or too cold or too wet or too dry or too flippin' windy!

Complaining about the weather is practically a national pastime!

er... nope! I guess pit zips are a deluxe feature not available on my coat. I wore it on tonights run and it was comfortable at Zero degrees C. When its above 10C I'm gonna struggle, but if it is warmer than that then I probably won't wear the coat at all.

The coat is more of a mandatory kit item for the race, and hopefully it'll stay in my backpack unused!

Fingers crossed! 🤞

Are you counting down days til the race yet?

Er... my race is in 14 days, 9 hours, 26 minutes and 42 seconds

But no, I'm not counting down...I'm not nervous or worried or panicking or questioning my decision in the slightest!

But in all honesty, you're going to be fine. You've trained. You know how to pace yourself. Keep your goal in mind and just keep looking after yourself.

And try and remember to have fun! !LUV

🤣🤣. Too bad you were disappointed.
Well done for ot allowing your disappointment stop you

Thank you!

er, the forecast for wednesday looks to be freezing cold, and bone dry again, godammit! 😂

Who is it made by? I seem to get by without a running jacket, but then I try to avoid the rain. Not an option if there is a race on. I also worry about getting too hot. It obviously varies by runner as I'll see others out all layered up when I'm in my shorts.

Whoops!

Wrote 2 long ish posts on the waterproof jacket... and didn't actually link it.

The one pictured, and the one I actually bought is from Higher State link to website

Same, I generally ty to run inbetween the rain showers, and don't mind too much if I'm out and the rain starts halfway through the run. I also don't like wearing many layers, and it is odd when I'm out in shorts and I run pass someone wearing tights underneath shorts, 2 tshirts, a coat AND hat and gloves... I dunno how they do it.

But the race is starting at 8:30 on saturday the 25th, and whatever the weather is I will be running. Guess I need to vaguely prepared...

as long as it's not snowing I'll be alright!

I know the feeling quite well when you expect the weather to be rainy or sunny and then get the exact opposite of what you predicted 😂 a typical problem for people who lives in the tropics lol 🤣

I hope you get the rain that you wanted in your next run. Cheers 😁
