After all this time working in the hospitality industry, I think I learned a few things about customer service. Most people who come to a beautiful place on vacation do so expecting to spend some incredible days, and this also depends in part on how you are received at your destination. The good thing about having been a guest many times before working at the front desk of hostels is that I know how to treat newcomers well. And luckily, sometimes that is noticed by the guests who return the kindness in the form of nice gestures 💕.
Después de estar todo este tiempo trabajando en el rubro de la hotelería, creo que aprendí algunas cosas sobre atención al cliente. La mayoría de las personas que llegan a un lugar hermoso de vacaciones lo hacen esperando pasar unos días increíbles, y en parte esto también depende de como te reciban en el lugar de destino. Lo bueno de haber sido huésped muchas veces antes de trabajar en la recepción de hosteles es que sé como tiene que ser un buen trato con los recién llegados. Y por suerte, en ocasiones eso es notado por los huéspedes que te devuelven la amabilidad en forma de buenos gestos 💕.
Despite having done this work before, arriving at a new facility always requires a short period of adaptation. While the front desk job is pretty much the same everywhere in terms of checking in and giving directions to the place, the hardest part is learning how to use the reservation system on the computer. So far, in all the places I have worked at, the system for checking in guests is different, but luckily there is always someone with patience to teach me how to use it 😅.
A pesar de haber hecho este trabajo antes, llegar a un nuevo establecimiento siempre requiere un pequeño periodo de adaptación. Si bien el trabajo de recepción en bastante parecido en todos lados en cuánto al check-in y dar las indicaciones del lugar, lo que más cuesta es aprender a usar el sistema de reservas en la computadora. Hasta el momento, en todos los lugares en los que trabajé el sistema para registrar a los huéspedes es diferente, pero por suerte siempre hay alguien con paciencia para enseñar a usarlo 😅.
On one of my first days in the new hostel two guests arrived, a father and daughter, just when I was very new to the computer. They really had a lot of patience to wait for me to understand everything and finally be able to charge them for the stay. I still couldn't hide my nervousness, but they told me to stay calm, that it was no problem if it took as long as it took. This compassionate attitude on their part made me feel good and not so pressured. In return, I accommodated them in what I knew was the most comfortable room for them and gave them the best recommendations for walking around the place 🙂.
En uno de mis primeros días en el nuevo hostel llegaron dos huéspedes, un padre y una hija, justo cuando yo era muy nueva con la computadora. Ellos realmente tuvieron mucha paciencia para esperar a que yo entendiera todo y finalmente pudiera cobrarles la estadía. Igualmente no pude disimular mi nerviosismo, pero ellos me dijeron que me quedara tranquila, que no había problema si tardaba todo lo necesario. Esta actitud compasiva de su parte hizo que me sintiera bien y no tan presionada. A cambio de eso, los acomodé en la que sabía que era la habitación más cómoda para ellos y les di las mejores recomendaciones para pasear por el lugar 🙂.
Later that day, when I had finally finished my work shift and they had also settled in and rested a bit, they asked me if I wanted to go for a walk with them. Since there were only two of them, they had plenty of room in the car. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't get into the car of strangers, but in the south of Argentina and with people on the road, I don't feel there is that much risk. I accepted the ride since after all, it was a beautiful day to go outdoors 😃.
Más tarde ese mismo día, cuando al fin había terminado mi turno de trabajo y ellos también se habían instalado y descansado un poco, me preguntaron si quería ir a pasear con ellos. Ya que solo eran dos, tenían espacio de sobra en el auto. En circunstancias normales no me subiría al auto de unos desconocidos, pero en el sur de Argentina y con gente de viaje, no siento que haya tanto riesgo. Acepté el paseo ya que después de todo, el día estaba hermoso para ir a pasarlo al aire libre 😃.
With them we went to Lago Puelo, a destination that most of the guests staying in El Bolsón choose to visit. This place also has a small town with a commercial center, but its main attraction for those who enjoy nature is its national park. There you will find the homonymous lake with a great mountainous landscape in the background, with the possibility of a day at the beach, a bit of kayaking, sailing or hiking. It's an interesting place to stay for a while so I'm glad I took advantage of the fact that they were going there 😃.
Con ellos fuimos hasta Lago Puelo, un destino que eligen visitar la mayoría de los huéspedes que se hospedan en El Bolsón. Este lugar también tiene un pequeño pueblo con centro comercial, pero su mayor atractivo para los que disfrutan la naturaleza es su parque nacional. En él se encuentra el lago homónimo con un gran paisaje montañoso de fondo, con la posibilidad de hacer día de playa, un poco de kayak, navegación o senderismo. Es un lugar interesante para quedarse un buen rato así que me alegro de haber aprovechado que ellos iban para ahí 😃.
Even though I never imagined I would be working on this, it's something I like to do. I like being in contact with the guests, interacting with them and sharing travel anecdotes. Besides, I have the opportunity to get to know beautiful places in the meantime. I think that all this volunteering is a great opportunity to travel a little more around the country at a low cost and at the same time I get a lot of anecdotes. I really enjoy it ❣️.
A pesar de que nunca me imaginé estar trabajando de esto, es algo que me gusta hacer. Me gusta estar en contacto con los huéspedes, relacionarme con ellos y compartir anécdotas de viajes. Además, tengo la oportunidad de poder conocer lugares hermosos en el mientras tanto. Pienso que todo esto de los voluntariados es una gran oportunidad para recorrer un poco más el país a bajo costo al mismo tiempo que me lleno de anécdotas. Realmente lo disfruto ❣️.
