RE: The Fits We Throw And The Things We Think We Know

in Daily Blog2 years ago

Right, so aviation is something of a popular past-time in my family (maybe that's the French blood, IDK). I first got behind the controls of an aeroplane when I was 11... still don't have my damn pilot's license, but hopefully I'll get my life sorted soon and get back in the sky, but I digress. My sister got into skydiving around the same time (she's six years older than me), but we didn't really start hanging out again until I was in college, and that's when she started bugging me to join her. I responded, "don't be daft, why would I jump out of a perfectly good plane?"

This continued for a while until one day on my way home, when I got really sick of the guy behind me riding my arse, so I pulled off to the side of the road... into a massive boulder which flipped my car over. I thought to myself, "that wasn't so bad, I think I'll take P[redacted]a up on her offer!" It was fun, but it gets boring after only about half a dozen times, which is why some people (big sis included) get into even crazier things like wingsuit flying... though BASE (building, antenna, span, earth) jumping is so daft that it scares even her.

Wow.

I love that flying through the air in a car inspired you to fly through the air sans craft of any kind, that was the best kind of origin story.

I think what probably ruined me for skydiving was flying for the first time and mostly in Alaska. It was bad enough in the plane, but then again maybe it wouldn't be as bad outside it lol. The older I get the less I am worried about the scariness factor, but I gotta say, those squirrel suits intrigue me, BASE not so much, and holy wow you and your sis are hardcore, I love it. 😆

I'm actually very fond of planes and flying, especially old DC-3's. When I lived in the logging camp they would deliver our fuel with one, the pilot was so crazy we could hit him with rocks if we timed it right and he would brush the trees on take off just to thrill us heathens. Then again, he was also grounded later for cutting off an Alaska Airlines 737 while taking rich people moose hunting, but I digress. Looking forward to licensed pilot Kaja adventure pics😊
