For some time, the government had to intervene in this sector of the city of Valencia, because many of these houses were in a serious deterioration, and this sector as some of us know it as La Pastora, which is not the same sector known in the city of Caracas - Venezuela. Due to the large number of years of existence, most of the homes were almost collapsing, being this place an architectural and historical heritage of the city.

La Pastora in the city of Valencia, Carabobo State - Venezuela, is a well known sector located in the historic center of Valencia, in the urban parish of Socorro, close to several landmarks of downtown Valencia, such as the cathedral, the governor's palace, the municipal theater and other infrastructures of great architectural and historical value. This sector was built in the mid-nineteenth century, as part of the integration of a sector, planned for mostly housing, and in which the inhabitants would have the proximity of governmental and religious institucuones, since for that time as we know it today the historic center of Valencia, was an excellent place to live, was to say the most central place throughout the region.

As can be seen in the photographs, these are old houses, although many of these buildings have had to be altered in order to maintain their foundations, but at first glance, their style has to do more towards the colonial, or at least talking about its design, because possibly most of these houses were built after the independence of Venezuela in 1830, Therefore, all the constructions were already beginning to be called republican, although in itself, the republican architecture has more characteristics of an eclectic construction, where several styles of architecture are merged, outside of what was normally done under the influence of the Spanish crown before independence.

Now, La Pastora apart from having a very central location in the city, also had the goodness of nature, a very cool climate, as well as the infinity of nearby springs of pure water, which currently still exist, but despite that the issue of water is still a problem for the inhabitants. On the other hand, I try to think what this place would have been like more than 100 years ago. With the beautiful characteristics of the houses, surrounded by lots of vegetation among large saman trees.

With respect to the original materials of these houses, it is known that previously they were built with sand and sand, until in modern times it has been necessary to replace these materials with bricks, cement and also to reinforce the structure with steel beams, in order to better maintain the walls, as well as to use rubber and oil paints, in comparison to before when more lime was used to paint the houses.

The design of these houses, seemed to have the same mold, but among all of them there may be a difference based on the owners who initially built them, but usually these houses the length of the roof are high, in some cases with large windows and doors, as well as in some of the houses with central courtyards, everything depended on the cost that the owners would be willing to make the houses.

There is no doubt that this sector has had an important recovery of its architecture, as part of preserving that heritage with respect to its history, culture and in the form of these traditional constructions, which in certain way have been influences for the improvement of construction technology.

All photographs are my own and were taken with a Canon T3i camera.

The structures on this road are very colorful, it must have been very enjoyable walking at it.

Yes, it is very picturesque, almost like a painting. Thanks for the appreciation!

Hello dear friend @wilfredocav good day
It's good that there is a remodeling plan for period buildings, and that the government is putting it into action.
The period buildings, beyond their exquisite construction, keep much of the history of the place
I like the bright colors that they have used, and the design that turns the facade into a true work of art.
Thank you very much for sharing all this information and the beautiful images

Greetings ! Well also potnla pressure from the community, made the government intervene in the restoration of many of these houses, because until recently many were close to collapse. Thanks for the appreciation!

Heritage sites like the La Pastora de Valencia have become cultural icons that represent a country's historic legacy. For the Venezuelans, the distinctive colonial architecture that stands out for the most part in that neighborhood is one way of symbolizing the respect for that location's humble beginnings.

What design elements in those colorful houses have struck you the most and why @wilfredocav?

I have always been attracted to this type of houses, because of their simple design and on the other hand because many of these houses have many windows and in several cases a central courtyard. Greetings and thanks for the appreciation!

Great observations and insights my friend, Thanks again for this fantastic feature of architecture. 😊

What a beautiful place, and the houses, which still retain their splendor of yesteryear! I would love to live in that area, surrounded by nature and beautiful architectural legacy!

Many friends who have been to this beautiful place, say the same thing that they would like to live in that area, and in reality it is a very pleasant and safe environment, besides the fact that the area is beautiful and picturesque.

Excelentes fotos @wilfredocav, buen trabajo!

How marvellous to see this area so well preserved... When I was a boy I walked it quite a lot and I remember it had a very endearing "air of the Valencia of yesteryear"... Excellent photos @wilfredocav, great job!
