SMASh 359 - Toy Shadows "R" Us

in Shadow Hunters5 days ago

Hello everyone. Let's welcome Round 359 of the Show Me A Shadow or SMASh Contest hosted by @melinda010100. Do check on the contest post link provided at the end of this post.

We used to play with shadows while I was young. My siblings and friends would all go make dog barking and eagle flying shadows. Bragging rights go to the one who comes up with a new one which everyone then tried to copy. But remembering as much as I can it seems our shadows were all limited to what our hands and bodies can conjure. I don't recall any instance in the past that we hunted shadows of anything else. But now, shadow hunting has changed a huge deal. The introduction of cameras in cellphones have made photography accessible to anyone, regardless of age. This has brought shadow making and hunting to a whole new level.

A perfect example of this is with toys. When I was young we had toy guns, airplanes, water pistols, marbles and my favorite - toy soldiers. I loved playing with these but not once did I ever think of looking at shadows of my toys. What for? Shadows were passing things. Now you see them, now you don't. There was no way to immortalize a breathtaking shadow unless you had a camera, which then was not, or never, available to us. So shadows were in the moment kind of fancy. You forget them in seconds. But now, with the cellphone cameras which almost everyone has, these shadows which were never noticed before have now become a hunted trophy. Even my grandson hunts them and keeps them in an archive. And he loves his toy shadows. Here are some of the latest we had hunted down.

Technology has surely changed so much in our lives. Even with the way kids play. My grandson, through constant exposure to this contest, now consider shadow hunting to be his and my diversion. In a way, his toy shadows are us hunting them down.

My entry to this Round is the last photo. The link to this contest can be found here.

And that's all folks. Stay safe and may you all have a wonderful upcoming weekend.
