That's pretty much how it's gone. I gave up having plants when I had cats for that reason. It was easier.
Thankfully my darlings are like angles around my plants. They drive away pigeons and cats.
Dogs are not so inclined to go to town on plants and even drive cats away. A cat would be after the pigeon to eat it, wouldn't care about protecting the plants at all.
Dog dig right upto the roots to find their bones lol. My perevious one used to do that.
Oh boy, yes, I can totally see that. Cats always know what you don't want them to do and then go right ahead and do that.
