My last article was about how overconsumption of content can be as bad as overconsumption of food.
Today I write about how consuming too much content can ruin your happiness by raising the bar of what we expect out of life so high.
The greatest disadvantage of social media is comparison, we often can't help but wish for what others have in life, especially people who just seem to have it all.
Naval Ravikant said about this:
"You can't just pick and choose bits of someone's life and say I want his
physique and her net worth and his house, you have you take the full
package".
We often forget that we're only able to see snippets of someone's life, and never the full story or what they have given up in exchange for what they have; the full package as Naval described it
There was a video of Elon Musk talking about his life and how that if everyone knew more about they would never wish for it, and I couldn't agree more. I were to choose.
During this never-ending comparison, you never think of the less fortunate, and how that your life to them is a dream they can only wish for. How do you expect to be happy if you're comparing your life to others to see what's missing? You have more than you need!
This is not a call to stop pursuing your dreams or wanting more, but rather to enjoy what you have in life and to stop looking for what's missing and start thinking of how fortunate you are to have what you have.
I feel like the richest man alive now knowing that I have a lovely family, a sound body, a comfy house, a secure shelter, an ambitious sole and a thankful heart.
If you're about the destination, then you have to know it's nothing but a moment of celebration. But if you can enjoy the journey, good news is it's a lifelong one that ends with your inevitable death.
Count your blessings while you're still alive, before you lose the greatest of all blessings; life.
