"No One Writes Back" is the story of a young man who one day takes a guide dog, an MP3 player and a book with him, and has been travelling around South Korea for three years. Every day he visits different places and meets new people, and in the evenings he performs his ritual - writing a letter to a person he knows or has met on his travels. He only intends to return home when he has received a reply to even one letter.
At first I thought I wouldn't like the book due to the fact that I noticed a lot of pessimism in it. However, as the plot developed, I saw that it could carry hope despite life's problems, while showing a non-standard way of life. I also noticed an interesting approach to travelling, aiming to get to know other people and their stories. Despite the fact that the main character set off taking only his dog with him, he was never really alone.
It is interesting that each person the main character meets is given a number and we do not know their names. The letters are emblematic of the whole story and contain surrogates for these people and often even the problems they face. The dog - traveller, guide, friend and hero - also played a big part in this book.
It is unlikely that everyone will like this book, by the fact that there is not a very developed plot, the events simply run their own course and do not always make sense. However, there is no denying that the book makes the reader think, often touching on themes of passing, death and human relationships. I highly recommend "No One Writes Back" if you want to explore different world views.

"Nikt nie odpisuje" to opowieść o młodym mężczyźnie, który pewnego dnia zabrał ze sobą psa przewodnika, odtwarzacz MP3 oraz książkę, i od trzech lat podróżuje po Korei Południowej. Codziennie odwiedza różne miejsca i poznaje nowych ludzi, a wieczorami odprawia swój rytuał - pisze list do znajomej osoby, lub poznanej w podróży. Zamierza wrócić do domu dopiero w chwili, gdy dostanie odpowiedź na chociażby jeden list.
Z początku myślałam, że książka nie spodoba mi się ze względu na to, że zauważałam w niej wiele pesymizmu. Jednakże wraz z rozwojem akcji zobaczyłam, że może ona nieść nadzieję mimo życiowych problemów, jednocześnie pokazując niestandardowy sposób życia. Zauważyłam też ciekawe podejście do podróżowania, mające na celu poznanie innych ludzi i ich historii. Pomimo tego, że główny bohater wyruszył zabierając ze sobą tylko psa, nigdy tak naprawdę nie był samotny.
Ciekawe jest to, że każdej napotkanej osobie główny bohater nadaje numer i nie znamy ich imion. Listy są symbolem całej historii i zawierają namiastki tych osób, a często nawet problemów, z jakimi się zmagają. Wielką rolę w tej książce odegrał także pies - podróżnik, przewodnik, przyjaciel i bohater.
Raczej nie wszystkim spodoba się ta książka, przez fakt, że nie ma w niej bardzo rozwiniętej fabuły, wydarzenia po prostu toczą się własnym torem i nie zawsze mają sens. Jednak nie można zaprzeczyć, że książka skłania czytelnika do refleksji, często poruszając tematy przemijania, śmierci i relacji międzyludzkich. Bardzo polecam "Nikt nie odpisuje", jeśli chce się poznać różne poglądy na świat.

I find letters to be such a beautiful and thought-provoking means of expression that if someone writes them to you, they must hold you in high esteem, or at the very least, you were in their thoughts long enough to speak of you with care.
It would be interesting to be both the one who writes the letter and the one who receives it, as strangers, it seems to me a peculiar plot but it is even an experiment that would be great to test, thanks for the recommendation!
