Regretting You || Book Review

in Hive Book Clublast year

You ever come across a book so interesting, you end up staying awake the whole night? But even after loosing the sleep, you still have no regrets about it. That was how I felt reading Regretting You by Colleen Hoover. I'm a fan and at the same time not a fan of Colleen Hoover. ( I don't know if that makes sense). Personally, I feel her books are too realistic. At times, when I'm looking for something soft to take me away from reality for the time I'll be reading it, I definitely avoid Colleen Hoover's books. But I also like the fact that her books tend to change my mood and leave me in awe and puzzled.
Yesterday, I was feeling down and couldn't really sort out my thoughts. I looked through my e-library for a book I could read to pass time before I sleep then I came across Regretting You. I'm not one for spoilers so I'll just give a little insight.

Regretting You is a book that tells the story of Morgan, a forty year old mom and her daughter Clara. After being married to Chris for more than twenty years, Morgan finds out that he had been having an affair for the past two years. Unfortunately, Chris passes away, leaving Morgan to navigate the challenges of raising their daughter on her own. She must now come to grips with losing the man she thought she knew and find ways to cope with this new reality.

Then there's Jennie, Morgan's sister and best friend. She plays an important role in the story. Jennie is described as a fun and outgoing person who brings a lot of light and laughter to Clara's life. She's fiercely loyal and always there for Morgan when she needs support. Jennie adds a delightful element of friendship and camaraderie to the book.

Here comes the twist...

Chris and Jennie's death unravel a whole lot of secrets you wouldn't have expected judging how the book started. Going further into the book, we realize that Chris had been cheating on Morgan with her sister Jennie. Not only that, Jennie left behind a son who from what the remaining part of the book tells us is Chris's son. Jennie's husband and Morgan try their best to keep the secret from Clara. This causes more misunderstandings between Clara and Morgan who haven't really had a good mother and daughter relationship from the start.

While I'll describe it as having suspenseful elements, I wouldn't say it's strictly a suspense novel. It's more focused on relationships and the decisions that the characters make, with suspenseful elements woven in.

I love the book for its realistic approach. I loved the twist that came halfway into the book. I loved how I felt the character's emotions from beginning to end. Regretting You is definitely one of those books I'll love to read for the first time again (if that could ever be possible)😂. Colleen Hoover did a really great work. You should read it too.

I love Colleen Hoover, but I understand you when you say you don't always want to read something so realistic. I almost always end up crying with her books, but I love them hahaha.

I haven't read this book you review but I will now add it to my reading list because it has grabbed me.

I'm not really an emotional person so it's hard for me to cry but her books are usually touching.

Add it and read it. It's an absolutely nice book. What other Colleen Hoover book have you read? Have you read VERITY?

Yessssss. I read Verity and it had a huge impact on me.

I also read November 9, Confess, Never Never, Hopeless, maybe someday.

I liked all of them. November 9 made me squeal 😅

Was November 9 that good? Someone actually said the book isn't all that. And I scrapped it from my TBR list. Seems like I'll add it back from what you said about it.

About Verity, are you Team Letter or Team Manuscript? I'm Team Letter

Oh, it’s been a long time since I read CoHo books. And yeah some of her books are too realistic to read, but try to read Never Never series with Taryn Fisher!

Ohhh I'll be sure to check it out soonest. Thanks for stopping by💕
