Today I am going to share with you a very delicious and healthy food, June plum chutney. Also, this recipe can be introduced as a curry.
We call this vegetable type Ambarella in Sinhala language. It is called June plum in English. These are known by different names in different countries. So I will call Ambarella.
This dish is a very delicious dish typical of our local cuisine. And this Ambarella is a food that adds a different taste to our meals.
Everyone, young and old, likes this Ambarella curry very much. I think there are more people who like Ambarella than people who don't.
So I will make a brief explanation about Ambarella.
Raw Ambarella can be eaten as a curry. Also, ripe Ambarella can be eaten as a fruit. Raw Ambarella is dark green in color. Ripe ones are dark yellow in color. Therefore, these can be introduced as a vegetable as well as a vegetable. Here are the pictures of ripe Ambarella .
The scientific name of Ambarella is Spondias dulcis and it belongs to Anacardiaceae family.
It consists of three varieties unique to Sri Lanka and can be grown in large, medium and small sizes. There are small trees as well as big trees. It can be grown well in the lowland wet areas of Sri Lanka.
This plant can also be introduced as a medicinal plant that is widely used in Ayurveda. The bark, roots, leaves and fruits of the tree are used for medicinal treatment. The bark of this plant is quite thick. and this tree growing like a straight line. And these are perennial plants.

I got this ambarella from my neighbor's house. Above I have shown some types of food that can be made using Ambarella. So today I am going to tell you how to make Ambarella curry.
So now let's see what ingredients we need for that

Curry leaves | 01 pinch |
Pandan leaves | 01 |
Chili powder | 02 tsp |
Turmeric powder | 01 tsp |
Salt powder | 02 tsp |
Sugar | 02 tsp |
Unroasted curry powder | 01 tsp |
Mustard seeds | 01 tsp |
Coconut oil | 03 tbsp |
Chili flakes | 02 tsp |
Method
1 step
Cut in two pieces like this way. Now put the Ambarellas to the pot and add 350ml water.

And after cover the pot and keep it low flame about 15 minutes .
3 step
After 15 minutes like this. Now remove the peel of ambarellas.
4 step
Now put it separate bowl and add green chilies , curry leaves , pandan leaves and onion
Then add chili powder ,chili flakes , unroasted curry powder , turmeric powder , and salt powder . Mix it well.
5 step
Aging keep the pot on the stove. When its get hot add coconut oil , and after add mustard seeds.
6 step
Now add the ambarella mixture to the pot and add 50ml of water.
7 step
Now add sugar . And mix it well. Keep on the stove about 5 minutes .
By adding more chili flakes and chili powder, you can add a delicious color like this. Similarly, for those who like spicy food, add more chili in that way.
Now the delicious ambarella curry is ready. Suitable for any meal in the morning, noon and night. Can be eaten with rice and bread. Best served with rice. It can be presented as a tasty and quality food suitable for special occasions at home. If you can buy this vegetable from the market, try this dish. You will definitely like this food very much.

I really like this fruit. Especially when it is cooked as it tastes quite sour when unripe. In our local language it is called Ammar. Till now I knew it only in two uses, first eating it after cooking and second in the form of pickle. But the way you have made this vegetable or whatever you have made, it looks very nice. And I think it would be great to eat too. Thanks for sharing such a recipe. I think food cooked over a wood fire on a chulha is even tastier.
