Klepon (boh rom-rom) Cassava
Cassava plants that thrive in the backyard, it's been a very long time, I planted it since 1 year ago. Early in the morning after preparing breakfast and enjoying it with my best friend. I immediately went to the back garden to see if the cassava plants had started to bear fruit or not. I usually get cassava from my neighbor, he always brings me 1kg or even more cassava. However, this time I will harvest directly from my garden which has been very old.
After cleaning the weeds, I immediately harvested using a knife, because I was afraid to pull it out directly. The reason is that the texture of the soil is very dense, maybe because it has been allowed to grow for a very long time. As a result I scraped the soil slowly on the part of the cassava that was already visible. If part of the cassava is visible, I pull it slowly so that the cassava doesn't break.
And taraa, I managed to harvest one stalk of cassava. And the results are very satisfying. From one tree, I get about two kilograms of cassava. Apart from that, the fruit is plump and round, according to the myth cassava follows who planted it, and maybe this cassava follows my shape too, lol.
After harvesting the cassava, I immediately washed it and peeled off the skin until there was not the slightest stain left on the cassava meat. And I took the initiative to make delicious snacks to snack during the day when resting time arrives.
If cassava is usually boiled or fried, today I will process cassava with a different nuance. With cassava from my own garden, I took the initiative to make processed klepon from cassava. Usually processed klepon or boh rom-rom is made from glutinous rice or tapioca flour with pandan leaf essence. Not many people know, it turns out that cassava is very delicious when processed into this snack, and even now it is one of my family's favorite snacks at home.
Ingredient Used
100 grams of grated coconut
100 grams of glutinous rice flour
80 grams of aren
Food coloring (optional)
2 pandan leaves.
Cooking Steps
Step 1
I started by steaming the grated coconut that had been seasoned with a pinch of salt and then adding 1 piece of pandan leaf which had been cut into 2 parts.
Step 2
Then prepare the grated cassava, then season with 1 teaspoon of salt. Then add the glutinous flour little by little.
Step 3
Stir the flour thoroughly, then add the food coloring according to your taste, and don't forget to stir again until it is the desired color.
Step 4
After feeling that the dough was just right, I started shaping it and then added pieces of palm sugar.
Step 5
Cover the dough again, and round it in the shape of a ping pong ball, you can adjust the size according to taste.
Step 6
After everything is ready to be formed, heat the water first until the water boils, add pandan leaves.
Step 7
Then after boiling, boil the klepon into the water. Boil until the mixture floats to the surface, which means it's starting to cook.
Step 8
Now that it's cooked, roll the klepon over the steamed grated coconut. Roll it over until the surface of the klepon is completely covered with grated coconut.
Results
Now, you can enjoy a delicious snack made from cassava. Serve it while warm or at room temperature with hot tea, which is perfect for me. Klepon or what we usually call boh rom-rom. The chewy texture of the cassava with the sweet and melted palm sugar filling really melts in the mouth. Especially with the addition of grated coconut adds to the savory taste of this snack.

It would be so delicious and your plates look beautiful and inviting. I would love a taste but I'm afraid of making this in case I fail haha.
Failure in cooking is a natural thing, sometimes the composition and different hands make the dish different. But I'm sure you're a better cook than me, so for the level of failure I think it's highly unlikely.

What a beautiful garden you have @nurfay! Good thing you were able to harvest cassava. I recommend that the night before harvesting it, you moisten the soil so that it wakes up softer and it is easier for you to extract the tubers.
Regarding the Keplon, I really like its appearance, it is beautiful, pleasing to the eye, and surely its taste is delicious.
