Maturín es la capital del estado Monagas. Ubicada en el noreste de Venezuela. Pertenece a los estados orientales del país. Es una ciudad pequeña, de clima agradable y gente muy generosa. A pesar de ser pequeña los habitantes debemos trasladarnos de un lugar a otro preferiblemente en vehículos para acortar las distancias. Algunos usan motocicletas y otros pocos bicicletas.
Maturín is the capital of the state of Monagas. It is located in the northeast of Venezuela. It belongs to the eastern states of the country. It is a small city, with a pleasant climate and very generous people. In spite of being small the inhabitants must move from one place to another preferably in vehicles to shorten the distances. Some use motorcycles and a few use bicycles.
Yo formo parte de ese porcentaje de la población que no tiene vehículo propio por lo que obligatoriamente debo usar el transporte público. En años anteriores lo usaba poco ya que tenía los recursos para contratar y pagar transporte privado. Generalmente me trasladaba en taxis. Luego cambió mi situación económica y ahora solo me muevo en lo que llamamos buses o autobuses. También en carros por puesto y camionetas. En estos tiempos he visto pocos taxis, pero sí los hay.
I am part of that percentage of the population that does not have my own vehicle, so I am obliged to use public transportation. In previous years I used it very little since I had the resources to hire and pay for private transportation. I generally used cabs. Then my economic situation changed and now I only use what we call buses. I also use cars per stall and vans. These days I have seen few cabs, but there are some.
En Maturín existen muchísimas rutas de transporte. En lo particular conozco pocas, estas se identifican con números. El instituto nacional de tránsito terrestre y la alcaldía son los entes responsables de crear los recorridos que realizarán por ruta. Por ejemplo la ruta 12 inicia en el sector La Libertad y culmina en el SAIME (Servicio de migración y extranjería) en el recorrido de un punto al otro pasa por todo el centro de la ciudad y de algunas avenidas de importancia comercial.
In Maturín there are many transportation routes. In particular, I know few of them, these are identified with numbers. The National Institute of Terrestrial Transit and the Mayor's Office are the entities responsible for creating the routes. For example, route 12 starts in the La Libertad sector and ends at the SAIME (Migration and Foreigners Service). Felizmente en la actualidad hay más organización y los pasajeros no tenemos la necesidad de pelearnos por un puesto en el autobús. Se precisaron de varios espacios además de las marcadas paradas y allí las personas nos organizamos en fila hasta que llegue la unidad. En todas las plazas de la ciudad se ven varias colas, cada una para tomar el bus de una ruta diferente.
Fortunately, nowadays there is more organization and passengers do not need to fight for a seat on the bus. Diría que el 85% de los pobladores usamos el transporte público. Sin embargo no todos lo hacemos con placer. Lamentablemente en estas unidades han ocurrido hurtos, robos y secuestros. Maturín es una de las ciudades más inseguras de Venezuela. Los amigos de lo ajeno ven dentro de los buses una gran oportunidad para apoderarse de lo ajeno. Se valen de muchas mañas para despojar al pasajero de sus pertenencias. Es por ello que se me hace tan difícil capturar imágenes al momento de desplazarme y transitar por mi ciudad. Los teléfonos celulares son el principal atractivo para los delincuentes, sobre todo si son teléfonos inteligentes de gama media y alta.
I would say that 85% of the population uses public transportation. However, not all of us do it with pleasure. Unfortunately, thefts, robberies and kidnappings have occurred in these units. Maturin is one of the most insecure cities in Venezuela. Friends of the unwanted see inside the buses a great opportunity to take what is not theirs. They use many tricks to rob passengers of their belongings. That is why it is so difficult for me to capture images when I move and transit through my city. Cell phones are the main attraction for criminals, especially if they are mid-range and high-end smartphones.

Cuando nos movilizarnos en unidades de tranporte público tenemos que estar conscientes de que no siempre vamos a contar con un puesto disponible, por lo que nos tocará ir de pie. Debemos agarrarnos fuerte de los tubos o pasamanos. Los autobuses tienen una capacidad para 32 puestos, pero en el pasillo entran unas 15 personas más. Hasta que el chófer ve que ya no cabe más nadie no deja de llamar para que suban mas personas. Entonces el bus va a abarrotado de gente y esto es peligroso.
En las camionetas y carritos es diferente, todos van sentados. Obviamente no queda espacio para llevar gente parada. Aunque hay camionetas con techos más altos para permitir que entren más personas.
When riding on public transportation we must be aware that we will not always have a seat available, so we will have to stand. We must hold on tightly to the tubes or handrails. The buses have a capacity of 32 seats, but about 15 more people fit in the aisle. Until the driver sees that there is no more room, he keeps calling for more people to get on. Muchas personas lo ven divertido, ríen, hablan, cantan. Porque además todos los buses tienen adentro un sistema de miniteca o mínimo un reproductor de esos chillones que suenan muy fuerte. A la gente se le sube la adrenalina y forman dentro del bus una fiesta. Menos los que ya vamos agotados de trabajar y deseamos llegar pronto a casa.
Many people find it funny, they laugh, talk, sing. Because all the buses have a mini-player system inside or at least one of those loud players that play very loudly. People get their adrenaline pumping and form a party inside the bus. Except for those of us who are already exhausted from work and want to get home soon.
Lo más novedoso y moderno es que las unidades de transporte también son vistas como una buena plaza de mercado. Muchos venezolanos, de Maturín y de otras ciudades que nos visitan se suben a los autobuses a promocionar y vender un servicio o producto. En su mayoría venden dulces; galletas y caramelos. También entran los vendedores de helados, lapiceros, cremas, productos de limpieza y otros. Si deseamos comprar, el pago tiene que ser con efectivo.
The newest and most modern thing is that the transportation units are also seen as a good market place. Many Venezuelans, from Maturín and other cities that visit us, get on the buses to promote and sell a service or product. Mostly they sell sweets; cookies and candies. They also sell ice cream, pens, creams, cleaning products and others. If we wish to buy, payment must be in cash.
Aquí les presento a los hermanos YOLES. Son dos jóvenes venezolanos, cultores, cantantes del género rap. Ellos son más del montón de muchachos que suben a los colectivos a demostrar su talento. He visto a niños, jóvenes y personas de la tercera edad cantando dentro de los autobuses. Luego piden ser aplaudidos y una colaboración en efectivo. Todos son muy divertidos, entretienen al pasajero y se ganan algo de dinero. Esto es mucho mejor que ver a supuestos enfermos entrar a los buses a pedir para un medicamento o una operación.
Here I present the YOLES brothers, two young Venezuelan rap singers. They are more of the bunch of guys who get on the buses to show their talent. I have seen children, young people and senior citizens singing inside the buses. Then they ask to be applauded and ask for a cash contribution. They are all a lot of fun, entertain the passenger and earn some money. This is much better than seeing supposedly sick people enter the buses to ask for medicine or an operation.
Los hermanos YOLES rapean improvisando. Las letras de sus canciones las construyen estando dentro del bus. Dedican estrofas y coros a varios de los pasajeros, al chofer y colector.
The YOLES brothers rap by improvising. The lyrics of their songs are constructed while they are inside the bus. They dedicate verses and choruses to several of the passengers, the driver and collector.
Al terminar transmiten un mensaje de unión y fraternidad. Resaltan el valor y la importancia de la familia y repiten que son los hermanos YOLES, yo les canto, yo les cobro. ¿Merecen colaboración? ¡Pues si!

Para concluir, las unidades de transporte público son las más usadas por los maturinenses para trasladarse de un lugar a otro. Pasa lo mismo en el resto del país. Estas unidades son vistas como un excelente lugar para el comercio ya que reúne a un grupo de personas a quienes de una sola vez se le ofrece el producto. ¿Saben cuántas personas o vendedores ambulantes se montan en los autobuses diariamente? Les puedo decir que durante mi viaje del trabajo a casa he visto subir a más de seis personas, sin exagerar, al menos a una persona le venden el producto. Pero también he presenciado atracos y hurtos.
To conclude, public transportation units are the most used by Maturinenses to move from one place to another. The same happens in the rest of the country. These units are seen as an excellent place for commerce since they bring together a group of people to whom the product is offered at once. Do you know how many people or street vendors ride the buses daily? I can tell you that during my trip home from work I have seen more than six people get on, without exaggerating, at least one person is sold the product. But I have also witnessed robberies and thefts.

En mi pais, Cuba, el transporte esta MUY MUY MALO, es triste ver como desde que uno se levanta temprano para ir a trabajar tiene que lidiar con este tranporte y llegamos muchas veces tarde, despeinados y de mal humor a donde quiera que sea nuestro destino.

Yo hacía largas colas antes de poder subir a una unidad. Debía levantarme dos horas antes de salir para poder llegar a tiempo a mi trabajo. De un tiempo para acá hay más autobuses y la parada ahora está cerca de mi casa. Pero fueron más de 20 años padeciendo de un pésimo servicio.
Deseo que el transporte público de tu país mejore paulatinamente y así tengan todos mayor calidad de vida, al menos llegando más temprano a los trabajos y de regreso a sus casas.

Hahaha the yoles rap is something that Indonesian have too, just in different form. They are mostly doing acoustics inside the public transportation. I didn't even know until I read yours that such thing also exist in another countries.
