Travel and Discover! Slovakia. Tekovce Museum. Long-standing traditions of our family.

in Cross Culture3 years ago

Warmest congratulations from sunny Slovakia. There is a small but very cool tradition in our family. Once a month we visit a place we have never been before. It can be a country, city, village, museums, shopping malls, exhibitions, etc. Every time during such walks we learn something new, meet new people, taste unusual food or admire paintings in galleries.

During the trip to Levice Castle, which I wrote about in the last post, we visited the Tekovce Museum. I love visiting museums, and this museum impressed me too much. It is located on the territory of Levice Castle, which has stood here since the end of the 13th century. Back in 1927, the head of the Vrabel post office, Jozef Neksei, decided to create a museum, which still operates today.

Sparrow Joseph then presented the museum with his very valuable and huge collection of archaeological and ethnographic objects, paintings, family archives and books. All this time the museum has been developing and expanding. Today the museum owns more than 100,000 collectibles.

Walking between the halls of the museum you can learn about the history of archeology, folk culture, numismatics, weapons, wildlife. I really liked the room with the makeshift pharmacy and the room-museum dedicated to the occupation of Czechoslovakia "Prague Spring". I also liked the room with an exhibition of folk costumes and hats. And yet, at the moment the museum is restoring a large hall, which will house an art gallery.

At the entrance to the museum you will pay only 0.50 cents for an entrance ticket. You will be given a guide in a language you understand. It is very convenient. The tour begins with a hall with archeological monuments. Here you can see the bones of a mammoth, a real skeleton of ancient man. Also, we present a variety of tools that people used in those days.

Then we go to the hall, which is dedicated to treatment. As I wrote above, I really liked the makeshift pharmacy. We can also see many different medical instruments, laboratory instruments, flasks and beakers. Quite interesting expositions.

Next we go to the hall dedicated to weapons. Here we can see knight's helmets, arrows, various firearms, swords and protective clothing. When leaving the room we can see the knight himself. Be sure to take a photo in memory.

Our next stop is in a romantic hall. You just look at what beautiful tea sets, what miniature and beautiful cups and teapots for tea. This hall is dedicated to a later era. Furniture, utensils, elements of scenery make you hold your breath. The masters had golden hands to make it all.

The next hall is the hall of sorrow. Two rooms are dedicated to the "Prague Spring". As early as the mid-1960s, anti-Soviet sentiment spread in Czechoslovakia. People wanted to live in peace, have a free religion, freedom of speech, lift restrictions on travel abroad, and so on. but the Soviet Union did not like it. On August 21, 1968, the Soviet Union entered and occupied Czechoslovakia. Everything was taken under control: radio, television, newspapers. Soviet troops said there would be no blood, but that turned out to be a lie. The bloodiest events took place near the building of the Czech Radio. 58 dead and a child. And in 1969, two students committed self-immolation. All this lasted until 1991.

After a sad immersion in history, we go to the hall of folk clothing. Lush skirts and dresses impressed me. In general, I really like ancient clothes. Clothes. which is presented to us for acquaintance is very difficult. here we see both casual and festive clothing. very beautiful, right? And I really liked the hats, especially the wedding wreath with white flowers.

Our tour came to an end. I advise you to visit this museum. Not every museum is able to catch alive. But this one impressed me. I am still full of various emotions. Do you like to visit museums? How often do you visit them? What was the last museum you visited?
