Cowboy up and smell good

Marketing doesn't work well on me, I have a need over want ethos and good sense of what those things are; I don't like having an agenda pushed on me and don't cave in to marketing techniques used by corporations and businesses seeking to coax and persuade me into buying things.

Recently, I was in a shop I buy a lot from, apparel and boots mainly, called Allingtons, as I was looking to buy an Akubra hat stretcher as over the years my Akubra had shrunk ever so slightly as they tend to do; you can see that item sitting inside the rim of my Akubra below if you're curious, and while there figured I'd wander around for a look; I didn't need anything else and had no intention of buying anything else.

My girl was with me and I was content to follow her around as she browsed giving my opinions (when asked) on what she was trying on and was pleased to see her pick out a really sexy little outfit that I love. Once she'd done that the wandering was over until she saw a Wrangler rodeo shirt which she thought would look good on me so I tried it on and she decided we were buying it. On the way to the register she came across some colognes for men, something I don't need any more of, and noticed one branded as Yellowstone which is based around the Paramount Network's series by the same name; you can see the Yellowstone trailer here.

She sprayed it on the little paper thing supplied for testing and she loved it so she sprayed it on me to see what it smelled like after a while on my skin. We wandered some more then the decision was made...we bought it. I had to laugh about the little description on the back of the box - which is pre-weathered unlike a cowboy who earns his weathering by being outdoors and working - talk about marketing huh?

This Rip Wheeler-inspired cologne embraces an ethos of rough and tumble cowboy cool. Ideal for the noble outdoorsman who protects his family, cleans up well after doing cowboy shit all day and never loses sight that his tomorrows are all yours.

I don't know what the fuck that means but it smells fucken good and my girl liked it enough to tell me that she wanted me to have it. I didn't mind, I like making her happy.

I haven't actually seen the Yellowstone series yet but have heard it's totally legit and captivating so I'll see it eventually and will work out who the hell Rip Wheeler is in the process, one of the characters obviously. Until then, I'll wear this cologne and cowboy up...like always.

What about y'all? Do you cave in to marketing and buy things you don't want or make intelligent and measured buying decisions like I do? What the hell do you smell like, (I mean your cologne or perfume), and do you venture away from your old favourites and try new things? Feel free to comment. Oh, and there's no need to comment on these photos being shit, I already know they are, which is why this post is in this particular community.

Yellowstone.

Rip and Beth.

You will not be disappointed.

KC is my hero tho. You will agree I am sure.

I'm really looking forward to it. I only have two weeks of work left for the year now and a couple weeks off over Christmas/New year period so might binge it.

Marketing is wasted on me too and I'm exposed to very little of it anyway. Like yourself I buy only what I need and I need very little.

So much money goes into it and people get led like zombies; not this bloke though and not you either.

That was the perfect move! Always buy what your lady likes...it will keep her within sniffing distance :D It is only right that you got a new cologne that she likes and that she got a hot little dress that you like! Win-Win!

I haven't seen Yellowstone, but my sister loves the show. She keeps telling me to watch it and I will some day.

All I smell like lately is alcohol wipes lol. My brother had a total knee replacement on Monday and I am on nurse duty. They said he will walk and drive in two weeks (maybe) and should need less care then. Yesterday I looked out the window to see him cruising down the street on a mobility scooter, high as a damn kite on pain pills, with his crutches slung across his back and singing some kind of shanty lol. I'll be lucky to still be sane at the end of it and by then I won't give a damn what I smell like lol

Yep, I've been around long enough to know that it's better to defer to the much better judgement of the girl in my life, one could say I'm well trained. 😁

Your brother is going through some stuff, but it cracked me up that he's out there in the street on his scooter! Hopefully he recovers quickly and you retain your sanity, just watch out that he doesn't milk it for longer than the recover requires...something I might do. Lol.

You're well trained means you're a great peace keeper lol. I'm thinking that probably goes both ways for a nice harmonious homelife.

LOL he's not gonna milk it, he wants me to leave him alone. We live next door to each other, so he's tired of me popping up morning, noon and night! Hopefully we'll still be on speaking terms a week from now!

Ahahahahaha. I occasionally cave. Generally for things I didn't know I needed. :)

I gotta admit, I've never had a hat stretched. I've got a good friend that owns a pair of boot stretchers that I've used a couple of times. He's a smooth size 15 (14 UK, 31.3cm 49.5 Euro) and has a problem getting big enough shoes.

I believe you'll like the Yellowstone series. One more week til it's finished here. I started watching because a brother just insisted I needed it. I have managed to keep from buying any 'branded' merchandise :) I didn't think I liked the first season because everybody was an ass crack. 7 years (6 seasons) and here I am recommending it. That might be marketing at it's very best.

Oh yeah, there's those things...the ones we didn't know we needed. Lol

The leather band inside the hat can shrink over time, I've had this hat for twenty years, so it was just half a size too tight...now it's bloody perfect again. I've heard of boot stretchers also and heard they work well. I think R.M. Williams do one, that's the brand of boots I wear.

I'll be watch the show for sure, I've heard it's really good. I've seen 1883 and 1923 which is where the Dutton story begins and am looking forward to Yellowstone.

I don't give into the marketing schematics usually, but I make my own bad decisions for purchases I don't even want 😅

Instead of having branded junk, I end up with off brand junk.

The good thing is you know you do it, now all you have to do is stop not do it as much and you'll be on the right track. 😉

I love your sarcastic and comical posts...you actually have a very sharp sense of humor...And I dare say that you would give a good marketing professional...despite your very criticism..... 😅

As for my tastes, I can only say that I don't have a favorite one within the ones I can buy, and some for women have very delicate fragrances but I always prefer men's perfumes...they have more personality, so I don't doubt the quality of that Yellowstone, and more if your girl chose it, because our nose is special to know what suits our guy...☺️

Yeah, I can be sarcastic sometimes, it's an Australian trait.

That's Fresh...👃

Now I gotta take care of the litter box here at 6am waiting to make a delivery.

💩Doody Calls.💩

Quite literally. Samantha Jo just dropped a bomb. Such a glamorous life I lead. Thank god for cheap Fabreez air freshener spray and ziplock storage containers till I can dispose of properly. 👍

Febreze is good, Nilodor works nicely too apparently.

I hope you're well and have a good weekend ahead when it arrives.

No weekend here bro. Catch up mode from running single load weeks to fuk around with my Texas friends and the never ending property maintenance.

I Will be out here pretty much till christmas. 😕

I bet that time with your friends was good, but having to paddle like fuck to keep afloat due to that time off must suck.

And if you start to sink...Baywatch to the rescue.

It amazes me how every single post you make is different. How did you take those pictures? I can't comment on the cologne—never needed it. But in general, I can look past the marketing and tell if it's BS or not.

I like to be diverse, so many just post the same things over and over.

The images were taken inside a woven box thing (the background) using a wooden chopping board as the base. I mostly improvise which is part of the enjoyment of taking the photos. I used a macro lense on my Olympus camera.

At the end of the reading I came to the conclusion that it is difficult to escape from marketing nowadays. The cologne, in addition to putting a scent on your body, played its secondary role in marketing the Yellowstone series so effectively that it made you curious to see what it was all about. 🤔

Marketing also comes in the form of a subliminal message so that we don't realize that it is forcing us to consume.

Just now I remembered that I need to buy an after shave cologne, the one I had is finished. 😉Your post was somehow useful for marketing. Too bad I won't find that brand here so the marketing effect would be total.😀

A good day to you @galenkp 👍

Nah, the marketing didn't make me wonder about the show Yellowstone, it's been around for years, and I've known about it for that long.

Good luck with your cologne selection.

I definitely don't get carried away by marketing at all. I buy what I need, what I like and what is my style. I don't make hasty purchases, I like to analyse pros, cons and necessity.

I was reading the perfume description and I think it suits you, nature and family. That sums it up.

I like floral perfumes, sweet and citrusy perfumes too, like azares, lemon, roses, melon.... freesia. I have no problem with trying new scents but I have to like it a lot a lot.

I'm not sure if it suits me, but it's getting some pretty favourable responses so far so I reckon I'll stick with it.

Floral perfumes are nice on women. ✅

Favourable responses... that's what matters, and that you like the perfume of course.

I never been carried away by marketing, else we end up stocking unnecessary stuff clogged all over the place....The more mindful we get on our purchase, the better it is... seems your partner have good taste of smell, she must have chosen the best for you....

Yeah, people seem to want more and more these days and rather than show some restraint they just buy it whether they need it or not which seems wasteful to me.

Rip is the man! It is a good show. The first few seasons were phenomenal, the later seasons have been good, but a lot of it is over the top. We haven't watched the latest episodes yet. It's definitely interesting how well they have marketed the whole brand. You can find T-shirts, boots, and all sorts of other Yellowstone branded stuff these days. I wonder what company is actually behind the Yellowstone cologne offering. Like a lot of people say, ultimately, you should just buy what you like no matter the brand!

I've heard it's really good and will get around to watching it someday soon. I'm keen! I'm not sure whose behind the cologne, now you made me interested in finding out.

Hi Galen, I ignore the marketing. This is a principle, and quite simple. Which also has a gray side, I don't market myself well either. Anyway, I leave this reflection here.

The main reason for stopping by is to leave a: see you soon!

I'm going on vacation for a few days and I think this is my last post on Hive in a few days. I'm leaving in a few hours.

I hope everything is going well for you.

Best regards

Hey mate, I hope you enjoy your vacation and come back with some happy stories and memories.

Travel safely.

Oh, and one more thing. I don't know from shinola what smells good and what doesn't. If a pretty girl that I actually want to be around recommends it, that'd be enough for me. And I do like the smell of desert verbena. Makes spring even more pleasant around here...

It's a smart man who defers to the better judgement of his lady.

I am a huge fan of cologne and have quite the collection and I love this show, so...I might just have to pick some up.

Yeah, go and check it out as it might become one of your favourites.

I definitely will!!

It is difficult not to fall for marketing strategies, you have to be very intelligent, because they generally make you create an illusion that you truly have a need for some product that they are marketing, many times these strategies transcend and camouflage themselves very well, a clear example of all the We who watch football know that Coca-Cola is the main image of the World Cup just as Heineken is the official drink of the Champions League, drinks that are not at all healthy outside of any dietary context that promotes good nutrition, but we know that through this sport they have a greater field of vision and thus attract countless consumers

Marketers are very clever and employ some rather underhanded techniques to get people to buy.. I don't think a person has to be intelligent to avoid them though, they just have to know how to say no, or turn off the sources of marketing like social media and TV.

Well you are right and I totally agree with you on that friend.

I don't use cologne or perfume and I am not sure what is the smell of my soap. That being said not all my purchases were great. For instance years ago I bought huge puzzle(42000 pieces) despite not having enough place to hang it. I thought that I will gift it to my city after completing. I completed and glued a first bag after that I started a second but many of the pieces were damaged so I could not complete it. Now I wish that I had not bought that puzzle- I could have bought something better with that money. Like Hive/HBD or a drawing tablet.

This was not my purchase but my dad bought a greenhouse before he died( around 10 years ago). We never built/used it. so it was a waste as well. But I intend to try to sell it in the spring.

A 42,000 piece jigsaw puzzle? I'd be still going on that at the age of 165 if I started it now!

that bag that I completed took me probably a few months. Before that my biggest puzzle had 6000 pieces. Shame that I could not complete the 42000 pieces puzzle the image is really nice. Probably the second nicest puzzle I have seen. This one is probably better looking but I am scared that it will have damaged pieces again and I will not be able to do it...So I think that my puzzling days are over. Well at least it trained my patience I guess...

Yeah, I think I'd smash the shit out of it in frustration...but then, I'm not really a jigsaw puzzle sort of dude.

I wish I can also smell this perfumes, by bottle looks only it seems beautiful.

Yeah, it's pretty nice.
