Well i wish i could say freedom is driving most people. However the market is always right and the first wave of people in crypto are no doubt driven by money. No question in my mind. Now i do think as inequality and poor distribution continues on with wealthier people continually finding new schemes to deprive people of their money and resources.
I do believe they about the tip the scale over. When this occurs people will care more about freedom than just trying to survive in systems they have no control over. The good news is that day is coming and people in crypto will be going yes i'm here to be set free. This is the real important goal. Not just a system throwing a few trinkets at me to appease me, or giving me bread and the circus.
This first wave of crypto users aren't there. At best i'd characterize them as mostly opportunist who thought they could get rich in a new scheme. Not all not all not all. However that's pretty much it right now. Yes it will change in time. So early days of crypto were born out of purity and vision and hopefulness.
How do we know this? We know this because bitcoin was 1 cent under $1 lol. So those early people there clearly had a vision and certainly weren't making money. Now its more like slot machines in las vegas. There isn't really significant vision and usefulness. How do we know this? We know this because if i asked most people what they used bitcoin for today. What they used cryptocurrency for today? Many would say absolutely nothing. So we got a long way to go. Many of he early inspirational people aren't really around anymore. It's no real thought leaders here anymore. I guess they cashed out. Doing something else. So the wave of people really driven in crypto for more of the foundational reasons aren't here. Or i don't yet see them.

There are a few but I think you are correct. Most of them have gone on or gone underground.
Either way, they are not around each day.
Those early Bitcoin adopters were all about the cause. They were advocates of it and were going to either be successful or go down with the ship; no in between. It was a movement to them.
We dont have that feel anymore. I wasnt around in the early days but that is the sense I get from reading and researching about the early days.
I think it is something that we need to recapture. Those who were calling for Wall Street to enter, which many were doing on here 2-3 years ago, were only looking at the money they could make. They wanted their holdings to moon in spite of what it did to the movement.
Bitcoin is no longer in the hands of the people; it is now Wall Streets toy.
